Need some help with the rules on this one.

I have flown this YT-1300 many times without an issue but today the player would not take the explication. OK so under normal flying conditions great. PTL target lock, focus and stress given. All good. Now next turn. Green maneuver, Kyle gives focus, target lock, and Jan Ors gives evade. Next maneuver. Green maneuver bumping ship. Kyle Katarn gives focus. Then Jan Ors gives evade since I am a friendly ship. Now I can use PTL for target lock and give stress. This seems correct from the reading of the cards, but is this correct. The player today was not happy with it, so I played it not working but still pulled his ships even not using this when I bumped. So does this work even if bumped and Kyle starts off with the focus given or not? I want to use this in a competitive tournament soon so I am posting here to see if I can get clarification.

Sorry man, but I'm going to have to side with your opponent, here's why:

You do gain a focus from Kyle, even when bumping, and Jan can turn that to an evade, all good there. However, neither Kyle nor Jan are performing an action, they just assign tokens, so you do not have an action to trigger PTL with.

PTL only triggers after you perform an action. Neither Kyle nor Jan count as performing an action.

Imprezagoatee is quite correct here. You need an action to trigger PtL, and it's not there.

Everyone has this one right. Only thing I am going to add is additional clarification on bumping. Bumping prevents your perfrom action step, but otherwise, if you have another means to perform actions outside that phase, you still can. e.g. you can trigger PTL off of Ysanne Isard.

Also to clarify Jan changes the Focus to an Evade. From reading your post is seems like you are saying you would have both.
