A little overwhelming

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

Lately I feel almost a little overwhelmed with the amount of stuff coming out for xwing.

Wave 6 still doesn't feel that long ago, and we got the Raider and wave 7 right after that.

Only had couple games with the new advanced and now trying to come up with wave 7 builds

Seems like a lot of people think that a non existing item maybe released on Sept 4, and we have the preview for wave 8.

Feels like a lot.

Not that it's a bad thing but for the amount of games you get in a week/month seems like you don't get to try much of the new toys before something else shiny comes out.

Not ment to be a complaint thread. Just wondering if others feel little overwhelmed

Totally agree

If the past record is any history, there will be a big drought spell where we will have a chance to catch our breath.

Wave 6 was six months ago. Came out in February. Wave 7 this week so pretty much six months to the day.

I agree the new core set is very close but that's more on Disney than ffg for when force Friday is.

Wave 8 despite rumours to the contrary I don't expect till next year which is fine by me. If it comes this year too that will just be too much.

And on top of that the crazy IA releases and armada wave two in there somewhere tool.

I feel the same.

Wave 7 timing was ok. Though the Raider landing on top of it made it slightly worse. Wave 8 already being talked about and the Sept 4th stuff already though -- is overwhelming.

I don't get in enough games to try all my stuff out :)

Yeah I have way more things I want to try out than what I have time for. It definitely makes it more challenging with 3 factions worth of goodies. Over the last 3 days I've gotten in 3 games using 3 different Scum lists and I still want to toy around with those more before I get to Rebel and Empire.

Worlds could be crazy with so much new stuff hitting shelves by that time. I'm excited about that and to see what emerges.

I agree, the Raider release made wave 7 seem premature.

X-wing is a competitive game. It is demonstrated by the fact that people only play 100 pt games because that´s the only supported tournament format. Epic is not supported competitively in any way, so people generally have little interest in the format.

I wanna zip-a-zap-a-zoom a few 30 minute crap-100 point games while my wife allows it... once a week.

No- it's a really fun game that just so happens to have a single competitive format

OK - who are you and what have you done with the real Joe Boss

Well, X wing has been out for 3 years now.

Year 1 - Fall release of Core set + Wave 1

Year 1 - Spring release of Wave 2

Year 2 - Fall release of Wave 3

Year 2 - Winter release of Imp Aces

Year 2 - Spring release of GR-75 + CR-90

Year 2 - Summer release of Wave 4

Year 3 - Fall release of Rebel Aces

Year 3 - Winter release of Wave 5 (only 2 ships)

Year 3 - Spring release of Wave 6

Year 4 - Fall release of Wave 7 + Raider (which was planned for summer or so it would seem)

Year 4 - Fall release of ???

Year 4 - Winter release of Wave 8

So, in a 3.5yr time span, there have been a total of 15 releases, which is pretty much 4 per year. The Raider was late to the party, and with this unknown release happening at some unknown time rumored to be in the near future for unknown reasons (I feel like this is ridiculous.. for no known reason though), it's understandable to feel like a lot is happening at once.

But seeing as W6, while introducing Scum, did little for the rebel faction, and even less for the imps, it's been since November of last year since anything has happened for either of those factions. And W7 is bringing a single additional ship. The Raider is basically reviving the Advanced though, so it's a viable ship, so it's practically brand new now.

So, basically a year's worth of stuff is being released within about 2 months of each other instead of being spread out. Which kinda sucks (keeps the game stale for awhile, and then so much new stuff makes it difficult to get a hold of the new version of the game). But oh well, at least we finally have the Raider, and epic is becoming viable.

Had 300 Pt game day my buddy and I got our Raiders. Had a imp vs imp game and last night had a 400 imp vs rebel but excluded wave 7 cause didn't know when we planned it if it be here or not.

Having another epic game in two weeks (camping next weekend)

Tianjin is the port city that most goods coming out of northern China, Beijing go though.

The explosion at the docks was several hundred tons of chemicals that caught on fire, then reacted to water to form a even more explosive reaction.

Dat wuz me, in smarty mode. I have no pity for people who him-and-haw.

"Do or do not."

Yes it is. Look at it from the perspective of the new player. I started in January of this year. In 9 months I have purchased 4 years of releases. Or will when 9/4 is released along with Wave 8. The task of trying to get a grip on the ship movements, unique pilot abilities and upgrade cards is a daunting one. It's made somewhat easier by the good people on these forums. Your suggestions for builds and rules interpretations has gone along way to make my introduction into X-wing so much more enjoyable.

Some posters have denigrated players that have used "net builds". They don't realise that some players are visual learners. We dont use net builds because we're lazy but because it's easier to examine the synergy of an established build in relation to how it needs to be flown to achieve acceptable results.

Think about it. All the ship, pilot and upgrades available at one time. I never heard of EU before coming to these forums. I don't want to reinvent the wheel. I want to see what it takes to build a better wheel.

I agree a bit as well.

Waited and waited for the Raider, finally got to pick it up in person at GenCon, along with a Punisher and K-Wing.

Got home to see wave 8 announced. Expected, yes, but still.

Which, most likely cost FFG me buying a Hound's Tooth. I like the mechanic of the little lifeboat ship, but haven't bought into S&V yet, but was about to for the HT. But, since the Ghost is coming with a similar (possibly better) little lifeboat mechanic, I'll just wait for it instead.

And yeah, got to fly my Raider, new Advances and Punisher once before everyone else got them, and now with the Ep 7 stuff coming, the meta is already going to change, practically skipping Wave 7. I was really looking forward to some Advanced and Punisher vs K-Wing fights!

I know they had to have been working on the Ep7 stuff for a while (when the trailer for TFA first hit, with those new Blue X-Wings, I said to myself: "There's the X-Wing Fix!"), and it sounds like the Raider delays were beyond their control. But...Launch Wave 7 and potentially a couple weeks later is wave '7.5' with the Ep 7 stuff? I think that could have been planned out a bit better.

I'm really glad the game is extremely popular (FFG is truly surprised and was a bit unprepared for it's popularity), and I'm always excited for new stuff, and I know in The Big Picture, the releases are actually a bit 'less' than a lot of the living games. But...maybe just one large wave a year, with less Spoil Everything leading up to it would be a bit better.

We always know what is coming next*. sure some people might want the surprise but it's not like the next wave is really proxyable yet, I enjoy the spoilers.

you can always purchase slower than expansions are released and avoid the spoilers. The boats are never on time* we have lots of time to enjoy the game before more shiny things arrive**

*as long as I've been playing at least.

** the special mystery looks neat, but not game changing.

Not if you play competitively, which I (and many others) do. But yeah, in the end, it's A Game to be enjoyed. I am lucky that in my area, I have several stores that host X-Wing nights, with a wide range of players. So I am able to choose if I want a Meta-Heavy HardCore session, or a casual 'Let's all fly Shuttles tonight!' session. Speaking of, I need to setup another Epic night. Itching to fly my Raider again!

Maybe no one in your area plays Epic and you have little interest, but believe me, it's a fun format that is very well played throughout the gaming community. Looks to me like you are a Spike (PM me if you want to know what that means).

This I don't understand. Stale? The game is great and lots of fun. There are tons of builds outside the PWT and Phantom; especially so if you're not playing in tournaments. Tournament are not the only way to play. Add a few missions/scenarios and Epic play then have a few mates over for a game, pizza and pint then you could play for years.

It ain't stale we just have ADD. I've often wondered how Chess, Go and even Monopoly can possibly survive in this age?

You just have to... oh look at that!
