Translator here. Basically, I'm a meatbag version of C3PO.
What do you do for a "day job?"
Locomotive engineer. (I drive choo-choo trains)
Medicare insurance agent. Old people interrupt my day of X-Wing theorycrafting.
Someone should turn this into a X-Wing Career Trading thread. If someone can find a way for me to get paid scuba diving in the Caribbean, that'd be great. ![]()
A related question: if droids, like those in the Star Wars universe, were invented, how easily would they replace you? They could replace me and maybe no one would notice.
What if a machine could do all my labor and even think like me? Why yes, I think it'd replace all of us.
I'm a union electrician, just finished my 5 year apprenticeship and passed the California state test back in June. So I'm now a fully fledged commercial, industrial and residential journeyman. Mon-fri 7-3:30. Eventually I'll get around to wiring up lights inside my ships but just don't have the time for it yet. Xwing and imperial assault take most my free time and my wife of course haha.
I'm an electrical engineer. I design circuit boards and servo motion controllers for CNC machines; 60,000 PSI waterjets mostly. I also have access to a laser cutter, and I also put it to work making all kinds of acrylic templates.
Maybe you could talk to me if you're interested in those career-replacing robots. ![]()

Beats the old gig all to heck and back - advertising destroys the soul.

People who like their jobs post about their jobs. People ashamed of or otherwise unhappy with their work are less inclined to talk about their work.
Freelance artist, and illustrator, also do part time work when I'm feeling especially poor.

It is silly to be ashamed of your job. Any job. IMO.
But admittedly, I am one lucky SOB for doing something I like for moneyz allowing me to splurge on silly amounts of toy soldiers and ships... (plus wife and house and all that other less important stuff.
)
Lawyer/Assistant District Attorney. I prosecute traffic/drunk driving cases.
3 daughters who express ZERO interest in this game ....

Well at the moment I'm a Bartender which isn't crappy per se but not as prestigious as some others here but as of next fall I'll be an officer cadet in millitary and strategic studies.

Interesting. How does the latter go with the rest of your job?
I'm a fully licensed troubleshooter at Universal Exports.

Don't recall ever seeing a droid do art even in the SW universe so I guess it's pretty slim? Although I'd be more than happy for them to take over my house chores and taking the kids to school:)A related question: if droids, like those in the Star Wars universe, were invented, how easily would they replace you? I think it's possible to consider EV-9D9's handy work to be a form of art, in a sick, demented sort of fashion.
I could try to make it sound fancier than it is, going on about how I work in Logistics and all the various things I've done in my time there or I can just call it what it is.
Target Flow Team Member.
Air Traffic Controller and yes i sonetimes wish those boeings could do the barrel roll!
Alegedly, a test pilot barrel rolled the original 707 prototype- "The Dash 80" - while overflying a golf course where the head of boeing and the head of PanAm were playing a round and discussing this new jet airliner. And just in case they didn't see it, he circled back and did it again.

Nice. Former Flow Team Leader myself. Non-Target people probably laugh at the use of "flow" for logistics but I feel your pain, literally. Unloading 2000 cases in 45min is not easy.
I already responded, but to elaborate on my Federal desk job: I process paperwork all day, update databases, enter time and attendance records... it is not crappy, but it is pretty dull to tell people about. My freelance artist night job is primarily doing commissioned pen and ink house portraits at my dining room table--sitting for hours making little squiggles on paper. Not much to talk about there, either--but while I am doing it I listen to board game podcasts, which is AWESOME, so it is ALMOST like I am being paid to listen to board game podcasts. Almost. So the real question is, is no one with a crappy job sharing? Or is our forum pretty much entirely smart people?
You got me beat
