I was thinking I would pick up a second K wing, and use one as a bomber and the other as a missile/torpedo platform. I was very successful at managing to keep out of harms way with the ship last night, so I thought maybe some more effective load outs would allow me to output better damage.
Can two K wings work in a four ship list?
Well it sounds like you want to equip a pair of Wardens differently, and I don't suppose there's anything inherently wrong with doing so! It depends on the list, really, and what else the K-Wings are bringing to the table. If you have a pair of TLT Y-Wings you might be able to have the Ks fly interference with their ordnance, but simultaneously you won't have a ton of points to spend on buffing the Ks. Two vanillla Blue Squadron B-Wings would afford a few more points, but if you're bringing them anyway I tend to prefer equipping generic Bs with Fire-Control Systems, which makes them cost the same as TLT Golds anyway!
A pair of Headhunters or A-Wings would be cheaper but have less punch, I feel. What kind of list were you thinking of running?
Y wings are the better choice.
Ironically it seems Y wings and the tradition tie bombers are the real winners of this wave. The "New" bombers are all expensive and in a 100 point game the lower cost Y wings and tie bombers are the better ships with the new upgrades and bombs.
I haven't gotten a chance to try out the K wing with the SLAM action. Maybe that will be a huge deal, but not sure.
I agree with Tokyogriz, as much as I have grown to really like the new bomber models I just think that my beloved Tie Bombers have been given a nice little boost with wave 7. The new big stuff will mean some 150 point games in my house though. Good work FFG.
The K-wing is a significantly better bomber than the Y-wing- Slam is very good for bombs, while Advanced Slam gives you incredible precision with mines. As a TLT platform or maybe even a torpedo carrier, though, the Y-wing has an edge.
As above
SLAM gives the k an insurmountable edge as a pure bomber over the Y
Also infinetly better as an int agent carrier for obvious reasons
As anything else, though, the y is more efficient (except for elite pilots, cause miri is one **** tough cookie that can take c3po)
Ks are expensive buggers, though, and I don't see them doing well in 4 ships unless run as a one of (warden + int + autoblaster + munis + conner's, 3 bsps)
Edited by ficklegreendiceI only have the one, I ran it a few different times with some different load outs. I was trying to avoid putting to many points into it. I put extra munitions on it everytime. One game I tried two Conner nets, totaling to four. Sadly, each time I landed a hit with the weapon, my opponent had planed I preform a red move anyway so the bonus of ion tokens and loss of action were null. The base attack on the K wing is underwhelming at anything other than range two, I might just go ahead and pay the 6 points for the TLT so that he can actually apply damage.
I tried out the ion bombs, to which my opponent suggested that I use cluster mines as the ion bombs are not too good. This is slightly problomatic as I do not wish to purchase imperial.
One time I tried photon torpedoes and cluster missiles, this was again a bad choice as both fit the same role.
One time I did use two Y's with the TLT, that worked out nicely. My opponent insisted he didn't recive a defensive role against the weapon, so my effectiveness was over exaggerated. (We cleared it up after the fact).
So one thing to do might be buy up two K wings just to run four Y's with TLT.
Bombing with the k is about planning ahead with regards to slam
Rather than enter a joust by just flying past the ship, run up to him and then bank/turn to drop nets
The K is all about maneuvering despite the misleading PWT. It takes a bit of practice to get used to (weird bugger that it is)
Best way to describe the K outside its roll as Master of shenanigans (ia and SLAM) is grocery store clerk. You need someone to bag that game changing enemy soontir/vader/corran/dash/fattie/anything high value really, the warden's your guy
Edited by ficklegreendiceTLT/r2dcrew Miranda + bomber Warden + 2 tala is pretty good actually.
But you really shouldn't run multiple wardens.
