The Steele Curtain

By Mello13, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Before I got my Raider, I had never flown the one TIE Advanced in my collection. Let's just say I was looking forward to finally breaking one out. Looking at our lovely new title and the Advanced Homing Missile, I came up with the following list.

TIE ADVANCED: · Maarek Stele (27)

Predator (3)

Adv. Homing Missiles (3)

TIE/x1 (0)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)

TIE ADVANCED: · Lieutenant Colzet (23)

TIE/x1 (0)

Fire Control System (0)

TIE DEFENDER: · Colonel Vessery (35)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

I went 4-0 at League Night last night beating everything from a Dash/Corran to a Soontir+5 ship swarm.

The general strategy was to fly was a tight unit (Advanced up front, Vess in the back) until the first engagement and then adapt. Colzet was MVP in almost every game as he could completely disengage but keep feeding Vess his locks or keep a Soontir in check by repeatedly flipping the 'Cannot Perform Actions on Your Action Bar' crit.

The list has some serious teeth and is a blast to fly (took a previous version of the list to league last week and was baffled by the two dials, improvements were made in both strategy and list tweaks). The list won't ever win Worlds but it is so fun!

Nice list. I love the fact that all 3 of your ships are threatening for different reasons. Makes target priority a real challenge for your opponent. I think its got serious potential, so keep flying it! You 'might' win something big (maybe not worlds, but even a Regionals is pretty fantastic) if you practice, practice, practice. I have a tendency to change lists up frequently, but I'm starting to realize that sticking with the same list teaches you nuances about how it performs in certain conditions/matchups that you wouldn't fully comprehend after only a couple games with it.

Best of all, its got a defender in there, and I'm always happy to see people having success with it!

My next Defender list is similar:

Vesery w/ Veteran Instincts, HLC & hull = 46

Fel w/ PtL, royal guard, autothrusters & target comp = 34

Dark Curse w/ target comp = 18

98

Dropping Hull to upgrade DC into a tempest with accuracy corrector is not a bad idea, although I feel 'safer' grabbing an early TL with Dark Curse (since no one ever shoots at him given other targets on the board). Also, since Vessery is my heavy hitter, I like the idea of keeping him more durable. Unlike your list though, target priority is not difficult for my opponent. Its pretty obvious that Vessery is the primary threat and needs to be dealt with first, although no one wants to leave Fel to the end game of course.

Wish you could fit the Engine MK II on the defender....it desperately wants one

Edit: removing the hlc or dropping it down to a manger would free up points too but I think the list needs the punching power.

The TIE Mk 2 is not bad, but its not an essential upgrade. I think its slightly more valuable on the generics. In the OP's list, it has some additional value because Vessery happens to be highest PS, so it would certainly help against rebel captive, but not so much that its worth changing the list for. Imho anyway.
