Hello guys, still new to the game one rule has confused our group

When you activate a squadron dial the rule says you "Activate a number of friendly squadrons up to the ships squadron value that are at close-medium range of the ship...". The token then says Activate one squadron as described above now the confusion is whether that means Squadron value + 1 or my interpretation is that it is 'as described above' and up to the ships squadron value

Any clarification?

A token only activates one squadron.

Dial activates number equal to ships squadron value.

So you can not exceed your squadron total regardless of the token?

If you spend them both at the same time you are able to use the dial to activate 3 squadrons (if you have a VSD for example) and token for 1 squadron for a total of 4 squadrons.

Token still activates one. So add one essentially.

Then why does it say following the rules above?

So you know what it means to "activate" a squadron.

Even though they are spent together they are resolved one after the other.

Use Dial - You activate squadrons up to your squadron value.

Use Token - You activate one squadron.

Well if your squadron value is zero you can't activate any squadrons with the dial. The token doesn't give you plus one squadron value. It just lets you activate one squadron "as above" and above requires you to have a squadron value that is at least equal to the number of squadrons you want to activate.

Although re-reading it now it could be the "as above" juts means the mechanics of the squadron and not the ship.

I think the meaning of "activate one squadron" is pretty clear. The "as above" bit just explains what activating a squadron means.

Incidentally, this is why CR90s, Raiders or MC30s don't have a squadron value of 0.
