Are there two different K-wing models?

By Ken at Sunrise, in X-Wing

I purchased 2 K Wings today. They have different sponsons. 1 sponson is fully extended, the other is mostly up. Did Fantasy Flight make two different molds or do I have a defective K Wing?

I will try and get a picture of it later tonight, I am not on my computer right now. If somebody already asked this question I'm sorry I missed the post. Otherwise has anyone seen this also?

Who else just Googled 'sponson' ?

Is it loose or hinged? They don't generally make different molds of the same ship, but the sponsons are probably a separate part that gets glued in, would be impossible to mold otherwise.

It sounds like you might have gotten one model that's in good shape and one with some shipping damage. I'm pretty sure there was only one model.

There can be...only one!

Not loose at all or hinged. I don't see any stress marks or noticably white plastic indicitive of stress.

Is there a cut-out between the sponson and the wing (into the side of the nacelle)? It's possible that it was was glued in at the wrong angle.

Looks like a misprint.

one of those poor ks is in a really dismal shape

looks more like a nordic-rune-wing than a K

t looks like it's simply been glued in a slightly misaligned position.

I had a similar problem with a Y-Wing (engine glued at an angle instead of straight) and a Phantom (wings glued in thewrong positions so they were angled instead of straight).

I fixed my models by gently wiggling the misaligned parts free (the fatory uses some kind of superglue which is quite brittle - so long as you're careful it's not difficult to remove parts) then gluing them back in the correct position.

Or of course, you could just leave as is. Your model, your call.

Looks one of those K-wings has a...

Wan Sponson

And now.. a word from our sponson.

My K-Wing's head module is slightly crooked. I've gotten a number of models that, upon close inspection, have slightly crooked glued parts. Thus I usually examine each one on the shelf before picking the best looking one to buy. Missed it on this one.

Just glue/print issue. One of my K's had a cockeyed cockpit, so I just separated the two pieces (which weren't glued well), shaved the obstruction, and reglued it straight. Easy peasy, wager the spoonsornodfndjfj is the same.

Here are the pictures for you.

It looks bent or tweaked to me, both wings should be at the same angle. Never mismatched, which is what I am seeing with the one. This is normally why I like to see the models in person and inspect a little before buying. I'm afraid of waiting a week to get it shipped, then finally seeing the paintjob is wonky or an x wings laser is bent or something.

Ok so both of my K-wings were indeed asymetrical. I just had to dislodge the left wing on each of them and reglue those straight too.

For reference, those landing struts (sponsons) are attached to the bottom half of the cylinder engines, but the intake and exhaust remain part of the main top wing. So if you want to cut that out to straighten the best bet is to exacto under the wing (if the wings are uneven this joint should be pretty noticeable) on the inside and cut and pry firmly.

Disclaimer: not my fault if you break your toys!

Not me, but what the heck is a sponson?

It's like a pontoon.

Kinda like my tie punisher, I went to put it on the base only to realize the pegg for it was inserted backwards haha

Yeah, the first one is cactus.

Definitely a defect. Someone (Team covenant I think) also got a defective K wing because they had one with the "up" sponson in their review. You can do one of two things:

A) contact FFG and see if you can get it replaced.

B) cut/reglue the other sponson so that it sits in the up position, and then paint the thing to look like a B-17. The "up" sponson's will make it look more WW2 bomber like imo.
