The Weirdest Situation you've seen in X-Wing

By Skeve, in X-Wing

What is the most bizarre or ridiculous thing you've seen happen in a game of X-Wing? Situations where some combination of abilities/rules led to something odd, unexpected, or otherwise stand-out?

For instance, seeing a Yt-1300 with the Console Fire crit get blocked by a TIE at the edge of the board, so that it steadily loses health while being unable to shoot back because the only maneuver it can take is a right speed-1 turn... into the TIE that also keeps moving 1-forward.

On YouTube there was a similar situation. No crit but a YT was blocking a shuttle. The only move available to the shuttle was a left. Straights and right turns would've put it off the board. Ths way the ships overlapped the left move wouldn't clear.

Probably the corner case in Epic where you approach a huge from a specific angle and get it in arc at Range 1 and nevertheless have no legal shot because you get bluelined. I forget how it works but it does exist.

I once blocked Chewbacca for 3 turns in a triangle of asteroids using a couple Tie Bombers and a Tie Fighter while Vessery k-turned back and forth behind him using HLC & Outmaneuver, he didn't last long. I don't know if it was the weirdest thing, but it was pretty funny.

I need to see a link to this, as I can't imagine how this works - since you can fire across the blue line - do you mean, no legal shot at just part of the epic ship, or no shot whatsoever?

The weirdest thing to me still is the ruling on feedback array allowing you to use it on any ship in Range 1, even if it's outside your firing arc AND you are sitting on an asteroid with no legal way to make a normal attack.

I once had two of my B-wings ioned off of the board in the same game. In the same turn, no less.

Since when can you fire across the blue line ?

Targetting a Huge Ship

To target a huge ship, choose a section (either fore or aft) of a huge ship that the attacking ship can target normally. Then, measure a line from the exact center of the attacking ship’s base to the exact center of the base for the chosen section of the huge ship. If this line is not obstructed by the blue center line on the huge ship’s ship token, the attacker can declare the chosen section as his target.

One episode of my web show saw a dash with console fire get blocked repeatedly by tie fighters and then his Corran Horn hot finished off by being bumped by Oicunn.

Let me rephrase - the projection of the ships line out from the base of the ship. that's kindof a hur-dur moment for me. I didn't actually mean the blue line on the huge ship token! Now I can see the no shot zone. Thanks!

I had a stressed doomshuttle once angled at the edge where only a hard turn would clear. My opponent mis-judged and ended up bumping so my green bank (which would have sent me off the edge) ended up bumping and thus not moving.

So in the end, my opponent saved Vader.

actually there is a weird little interaction going on there that doesn't happen in standard play.

to declare a legal shot on a huge ship you need to trace a line from the centre of the attackers base to the centre of the defenders base (not closest point to closest point like you would in standard play) but to determine range and arc to actually take the shot, you measure closest point to closest point as normal.

(see the second paragraph of the Targetting Huge ships bit)

So it is possible that you have range and arc when measuring closest point to closest point of the ship base - but not a legal shot because the line from the centre of the two ship bases crosses the blue line.

you have to be pretty close for this to happen - but it does happen

I once got a consul fire on Kath. I was then able to repeatedly block her until she burned to death. My opponent and I both thought it odd that the star wars universe has faster than light travel, but apparently no automatic fire extinguishers.

I had bared witness to the one shot kill through 6 green dice.

A friend of mine (who's group call sign is "Rockhound") managed to land three of his four ships on asteroids in the same turn. The only reason the fourth didn't as well was because it overlapped the third ship that was already on it.

He has a gift.

This is tame by comparison, but last night palpatine neutralized 2 proximity mines by turning the only damage received into a blank. It was certainly disappointing to my opponent but it did reveal the true power of the dark side.

Ditto. At my first tournament, too. Against my favorite pilot, Turr Phennir. But, my Kath Scarlet went on to win that game and I took second overall. :)

Maybe not ghe weirdest but....The other day I was running Super Dash with 3 Talas. 3 extra points figured why not toss prockets on Dash. 1 hr later I have the match all but won and Scum Kath gets a crit through....munitions failure! I flip over my HLC totally forgetting I tossed prockets on him. Spent the rest of the match trying to maintain range 1 to get the shot off. We had a good laugh about it.

Blanks, lots and lots of blanks.

Recently had a game where 2 M3-A's and Viper wiped me out without taking any real damage. (There was another ship can't quite remember which one though) I managed to take a Shield off the Viper.

Now before you think he out flew me making arch dodges I was flying Dash, Outrider with Mangler.

So many Blanks..... I.... I just can't sleep at night. THEY JUST KEPT COMING! *sobs quietly*

I witnessed, just yesterday, the meanest oicunn build in the world.

He had expert handling, ion projector, and the emperor.

He comes in at an angle, barrel rolls into your way. You bump. Palestine ensures the ion projector gives you the ion token. Next turn, oicunn bumps you, gives you a damage, and the palp/ion effect goes on until you die. Meanwhile, oicunn is still attacking other targets and the ioned ship likely is out of the game.

I don't see weird things happen.
My opponents do.

Case in point: Ever see someone slam the NOPE button?

I once saw a Z-95 Headhunter with no shields and two hull left clip a debris cloud: roll came up crit, and he received the Stunned Pilot crit...

... and in the same move slammed right into a Firespray, killing the poor Z. The amount of bad luck that went into taking that ship out...

God **** is that hilarious. Right up my alley.
