Repairing damaged ships

By Uumbuku, in X-Wing Mission Control Technical Support and Feedback Forum

Not sure this is the correct room but the topic didn't seem to fit in the other rooms.

I had one of my Tie fighters break off the stand flush with the ship. I tried glueing it with super glue but it didn't hold. Looks like I will have to drill a hole in the ship and the mounting mold and use a pin to securely fix it back on. Has anyone done a repair like this? Should I use a drill or a hot needle for this?

Feel free to post up other repair stories and advice.

I had to do this with my rebel transport. Wouldn't ya know it took it out of the box set it up for oohs and awes and it falls over and snaps the tips of the stands flush with the hole. GD!

Get a citadel modeling drill, it's both small and strong enough to do this. DO NOT try and retrieve the broken part of the stand. Don't ask me how I know, I just do, OK.

Drill, clip the straight part of a paper clip and super glue that in the hole. Drill a corresponding hole in a single stand. Clip paper clip coming out of the model to the appropriate length and super glue the paper clip into the stand. I would only go far enough to make it stable. Then if you did it well enough you can plug the stand into a second stand or directly into the base.

Good luck, show some pics when you're finished!

Thanks.

I have ordered a mini drill. Just a cheap hand operated one. I don't forsee having to use it often so I went the cheaper route. Had the thought if I drill a hole in the mounting cup I could glue a small tack nail through from the cup and then trim the top of the nail to glue it into the drilled hole in the ship. The flat head of the nail would stop the cup from being able to fully insert the peg but it would restore the ship to near new condition without the trailing peg stuck into the ship. I could always trim a peg a bit shorter to use with that ship.
