Someone was asking about Redline?

By Sacimino40, in X-Wing

He is really awesome. I played a couple games with him and a Howlrunner mini swarm. Most people go after the swarm , mainly Howl of course (mostly because I fly Redline behind the swarm). But WOW does he hit hard. I had him at a pretty hefty 42 points. FCS is an absolute must, never running out of TL. With that I had Advanced Homing Missiles, Plasma Torpedoes, Cluster Missiles, and munitions failsafe (you know, for fun.) I flew against Miranda, with TLT, R2D2, and a couple proton bombs with two Green squad A-wings with prockets and thrusters. Forgive me the details are foggy.

My TIEs were in the middle left of the board with redline off to the right of them, facing the left side of the board. His A-wings were pretty much lined up right with my swarm, Miranda on my far left. He shot up with his A-Wings 5 straight. I did 1 hard turns left with my TIEs to kinda slow roll. Miranda shot up with slam with the A's. Redline turned in to flank. The following turn i did another 1 hard into the middle, his A'wings were just out of range. Redline went straight to get to the flank. Miranda came in. I think a few shots between one TIE and Miranda were exchange, I dont think any notable damage was done. The next turn my TIEs shot up 5 straight to block the A's, which they did succesful. No prockets for you! Redline came into the flank and took his two locks on the closest A. Miranda came in behind all the TIEs. Looking to take out howlrunner. Miranda shot Howl here, again, no damage. Howl shot one A-wing with no damage. Redline unloaded one of His advanced Homing Missiles with a hit, crit straight to the hull, it was something insignificant. The two A-wings shot at Howlrunner. I pretty sure Howl lost 1 health here, but I had a shield upgrade on her. The other TIEs shot and destroyed one A-wing. And here is when I dont remember things. so lets fast forward to the point where all the TIEs are dead and all the A-Wings are dead. Miranda is facing off against Redline. At this point I have done a significant amount of damage to Miranda. I have both Plasma Torps left and a Advanced Homing. I have stripped the shields off Miranda once and gotten into her hull with 3 damage cards. But of course, being Miranda and firing against a Punisher, she has regenerated all of her shields, leaving me with two hull. That pesky TLT is eating me alive all while giving Miranda shield after shield. I set up a focus/TL shot, but Mirandas move looks like it may not be in my arc! After getting hit with both TLTs, leaving me with 2 hull left, we measure for arc, she is just inside! At this point, it is impossible for me to survive another turn of fire. I have to kill Miranda. I fire my advanced homing missile, my last chance to kill her. Of course, it gets through with two hits...Pulls the crit, DIRECT HIT! Miranda goes down with all of her shields remaining! It was an amazing game, and lots of fun. The advanced homing missiles are great for pesky regening ships cause they go directly to hull! I couldnt believe it when he pulled the direct hit. I thought I had lost it for sure.

The next game was against Miranda and Dash. This game was less exciting. Dash went down quick to my TIE swarm with Redline Support. I blocked Dash 3 times in a row with one TIE. Redline unloaded both Cluster Missiles into Dash. The TIEs did some more work on him. He was down in 3 turns of shooting. Dash took one TIE with him. It was 3 TIEs and Redline v Miranda. This time with Prox mines and 3PO. He slowly plinked away at the TIEs and I was plinking away at Miranda with the TIEs. Miranda actually one shotted a TIE with a prox min. I rolled 3 hits! on top of the 1 damage already on me. This time no R2D2 so no shield regen other than the ability. I think this is a big deal and Miranda with R2D2 is amazing! Not being able to regen a shield every round to proc her extra attack die is a big deal. After unloading a few payloads, she had 2 damage cards on her. She got all her shields back after a few rounds of not being shot at by Redline. Then I hit her finally with a Plasma torp, stripping them all over again. The next turn she had 1 shield back from the ability and I unloaded my last Plasma Torp, 4 hits. no evades. Miranda down!

So yea, I will be playing with Redline a lot, I think he is alot of fun, and can REALLY put out some damage. I apologize for the poor write up! But this is my first one and I played the games last night. I didnt get all my missiles off, but I think its important to have that firepower, because once your payload is depleted, He is not the best ship for the end game. 2 measly attack dice dont do much. I experienced this from a couple other games I played when he first came out. The list I initially had him in was with both him and Deathrain. It didnt work out too well but I was impressed with Redline when using him. So i kept him and added another missile. Overall I'm a big fan, and would be surprised if he doesnt see the table often.

Yeah Redline sounded nasty from the get-go. Thanks for the write-up, nice to hear feedback on him. I play almost exclusively Rebel and Scum, but I'm definitely going to have to try the new Punisher out. My wave 7 stuff was delivered this morning, so when I get home from work, it's on!

Thanks for your effort of your report. However, some pictures would be nice (and also partially replacig that huge block of text ;) )

Nevertheless, interesting scenario, and really difficult problem you faced: should someone go for Redline or the Howlrunner-swarm first

in a mirror (or future swarm meta) hope not to see assault missiles/ion torpedoes

You are right, in order to avoid swarms on the other side, you should at least carry one assault missile

The part that's underlined confused me. Her attack lets her regain a shield by losing 1 attack die when attacking. If she didn't have R2-D2 and she wasn't shooting, how was she regenerating shields?

Yea, next time I will take pics. Like I said, it was my first effort. And the only reason why I wrote it was because I saw in a different thread someone was wondering about Redline. I will also take notes and such through out the match so I can give actual, detailed, reports. Thanks for the feedback!
