I don't get why people keep saying this. They have 3 AGI, Focus is almost as good as Evade, and if you don't need it for defense, you can use it to boost your attack.

Nothing's quite as guaranteed as 3 blanks when all you needed was some paint.

I can't count how many times those **** 3 agility dice have absolutely failed me on the Defender. For whatever reason I can roll evades all day long flying IGs, but throw a Defender on the board and they blank all the flipping time. An evade action would be nice for when you just need to survive that one more round.

I'd say the 4 TIE Defender would be better, but not by much.

As my disnumerate brain understands it an evade token is worth one evade a focus token is 1.5 so either way it's one damage negated.

But in x-wing offense is way better than defence and only the focus token can be spent for both.

3 Firesprays comes in at 99 points. They get fewer defensive dice, but they can take the damage of 5 Defenders.

Is there anything you can do with 3 defenders that makes up for having 9 less hull, 3 less shield, and 3 fewer auxiliary firing arcs?

I faced off against this squad with 3x Delta + Ion Cannon. It didn't go so well for me. Asteroids were on the left side, so I drew him in with the hope of ioning him onto either an asteroid or off the edge, but those big bases clogged up my K-turn options, so by the time we could turn around, they were also turned away from the obstacles and board edge. He plays that squad very well, and it was only my 3rd time playing 3xDefenders, so I think it could go differently on the rematch. Maybe. Not totally optimistic about it, though.

If you are shooting at a PS 1 Delta while Vessery is sitting there you are doing it wrong. I'd actually want them to shoot at the Delta instead of Vessery.

Focus is worth 2/8ths (.25) of an evade Per green die.

So on 3 evade dice it's .75 of an evade. (Which is worth 1)

However, when you consider that you'll not spend the focus if you don't have a focus result - AND you consider defending against multiple attacks - it's often worth at least 1 evade. So Focus as a defense choice for a 3 die ship getting shot multiple times is pretty much equal to or better than an evade.

If you mean viable like in a highly competitive tournament, then NO.

It would work ok in casual setting. I have 3 defenders sitting collecting dust in my display case. They need a free title boost.

The defender's dial burden was alleviated... But they certainly still need better action economy to survive in a meta where you take a focus action... And you get 2 tokens that you can share with a friendly miniature at range 1, which after gaining a focus takes a free target lock, that when spended, grants it a free boost and one stress token, that can be spended to make you reroll all your attack dice, and if your attack hits, it grants a free evade action to one friendly miniature at range 3, which can then pass the evade token to your friend's miniature in the board next to you, which discards a damage card when it recieves the token.
