Multi-Faction Ships?

By Colicoid, in X-Wing

So with the rise in various big ships coming out....what do you guys think of the idea of multi-faction ships? Why does EVERY YT-1300 belong to the Rebel alliance? I’d certainly qualify many smugglers as “scum & villainy.” Likewise, the upcoming Mist Hunter is Zuckuss’ personal ship....Zuckus is definitely Scum & Villainy first and foremost, but there was also a time where he and 4-LOM joined the Rebel Alliance, when Zuckus was considerably weaker, perhaps they need a Rebel version of their ship as well?

Just a thought, it’s easy enough to print the cards belonging to a specific ship in different factions- we got it for Boba Fett and a couple other Firespray pilots. Why not others?

For a ship model to fly for another faction it need two things: a pilot card for that faction and the corresponding base tile to go on the stand. Model and dial can be of any faction.

While this is pretty easy it is also highly controversial to some who want to keep all the factions as distinct as possible. While mirror matches are possible some are disturbed by the idea that you could have Zs, Ys, and HWKs flying against each other with one side being rebel and the other Scum; it could also happen with Firespray but that is a bit less likely.

I always liked the idea of a Shuttle Tydirium Title that let rebels play the shuttle, God's gift to the game.

Multi faction made sense when the introduction of Scum and Villainy. first of all the firespray-31 was not an Imperial ship but a civilian patrol craft that was contracted out to Imperials in the hunt for the Millennium falcon. So sure it was the first to cross over. Secondly the Rebel Alliance is a rag-tag militia so they would have to take all sorts of civilian craft and re-purpose them for military use so of course they would have the highest ratio of multi faction ships. Since the S&V faction was the last one to the game it would be easier just to borrow ships from the other faction to complete the set rather than make a whole new range of models for that faction only.

However here is the things, There is going to be two new sub-factions added in to the mix. With that who knows what the cross-over will be like. There might be some rebel ships that are out that are also Resistance faction (The X-wing is not one of them as they are straight up being replaced) same for First Order as it may have some Imperial Ships although it is certainly not the TIE fighter as that is also getting replaced.

Tie is getting replaced? another 12 point ship? where?

I've always wanted multi-faction ships for various designs, the lambda being the biggie, but also scum YTs. imp and rebel DX 9s etc.

V-wings for scum and Imps.

I've been pushing shuttle Tyderium for a while.

Biggs in a TIE with a different ability.

Of course a lot of the suggested cross faction stuff, specially the Imp-to-reb is mission specific that can be done up in fan missions. Not everything about this game has to be 100 death matches and tournaments.

Partly because the game designers want each faction to feel different, maybe balance issues, maybe FFG wants to sell moar sheeps. I don't know. We can't really answer your question as we're not FFG staff and they probably want to keep most plans out beyond general Wave 8 news secret right now.

I'm not very convinced we'll see more cross faction, or at least a significant cross faction addition. The Most Wanted thing did it, at least I feel, more so to kickstart Scum with a large enough ship choice at it's inception. Now that it's up and running, they have the ability to add brand new ships.

When new options run out, they might be more inclined to consider cross faction much more, however, FFG made the Raider, who's to say they won't make more if it comes down to them needing new product.

I could see future ships that contain pilots for two factions, but each with a distinct identity/approach to the ship, much like the HWKs do.
