Core set showing 'm the boat'. that's interesting.

By joewrightgm, in X-Wing

So the base game for x-wing is showing on the boat. I find that interesting for a number of reasons.

The core game showed at the printer for a while. We've already seen that which shall not be named, so that can't be 'on the boat'; that product is likely stacked in boxes in the corners of big box stores, waiting for the 4th.

So that leaves me wondering: will the new core include the updated rules and damage deck, along with the original trilogy ships we know and love?

Or will this be a straight reprint without the updated obstacles, damage deck, etc?

We know nothing so far.

My FLGS owner attempted to contact his distributor in regards to the NEW core set. He was told that a shipment of the OLD core set arrived at the distributors and is ready to ship out on 9/2. Not sure when gaming stores will be able to order the new set.

Side note: I've been assuming that the 4th is when the distributors are going to be allowed to sell the new stuff to the local game stores. Meaning they should be on the shelves 4-5 days later.

Incidentally, I've asked at the local big box stores, target, barnes and noble, toys r us, and none of them seem to have any product from fantasy flight games waiting to be put out.

It would make a lot of sense to have the 2 Core sets being the same in all respects except the actual ships and upgrade cards.

I'd love to see that FFG was so far ahead of things that they were able to get an updated original Core Set at the same time as the new Core Set launched.

The leaked images came from a Target that put it out early. I reckon they're a safe bet.

Well Darn. I was going to take the 4th off to be part of the rush. I must do some research in my area.

In candid conversation with the manager of our FLGS who has slowly been getting the leaks, he seemed 99% confident that all product will be on his shelf, at midnight, as intended. Other wise he said he will be pissed off at his distributor. Considering his time working there I trust that 99% more than anything else. He seemed to only be reserved about it as a matter of form, like he knew something we didn't. Interesting...

I'm confused. Is the 4th the date when Episode 7 stuff will be revealed or is the date when the Episode 7 stuff will actually be available for sale? There usually seems to be a lag time between the two (sometimes even a long lag time).

Actually that's the ongoing debate. No one truly knows. All signs point to big box stores having it by then, the question seems to be will small FLGS have them. Which considering that ordering is done times just a contract to sell what ever the company sends you and you just order restock, is kind of iffy

I was thinking it was when Episode 7 stuff will be revealed not released because (1) we just got the Raider and Wave 7 and FFG would probably not want to cannibalize sales for those sets by release yet more sets so quickly and (2) Episode 7 itself doesn't come out until December and FFG would probably want to sell into the hype not sell so far ahead of the hype.

4th is supposed to be release date. There is a worldwide unboxing for all the force awakens stuff on the third so I would expect ffg to announce something that day as that seems the date the Disney gag order finally comes off.

I think there will be a mixture of both.

A) we have had several leaks over the past few weeks.

B) some stores are putting out merchandise early, Meaning that something will hit the shelves around the 4th. At my local Wal-mart it was an RC X-wing with Kylo ren box art.

We know nothing so far.

You know nothing, Jon Snow.

I understood that reference.

...but only because of the internet.

I think only a subset of any retailers is getting a 9/4 release. There are 4-5 targets within 46 minutes of me and only one has them.

Yeah I have 3 Targets in the next town over and only 1 is participating in the "Share The Force Saturday" event. They won't even be doing the "Force Friday" one.

Some employees of stores (box stores, etc) may not know as distribution is at a higher level. Many orders, etc are centrally controlled by computers. Maybe if you talked to a manager, they would know.

And the fact that all the other toys spoil stuff about the movies didn't help. The only reason we know a lot of these characters names is thanks to the toys. There's nothing in the teaser trailers to say that the shuttle in them was Kylo Rens. Or say that Poe was the name of the X-wing pilot or whatever. So it's already spoiled all that. Unless there was some other place all these names were spoiled? Comics maybe?

The toys might have revealed some stuff but all of the character names that I am aware of have come directly from Lucasfilm as part of promoting the movie. They releases some digital bubble gum cards, had several articles revealing planet and character names in Entertainment Weekly and Empire, and a lot of basic information was shared at Celebration.

The only thing i have seen the toys reveal are a few locations that we already kind of saw in the two trailers. In fact, the toys do not reveal anything about the leader of the first order, luke, leia, or a few other characters we know are in the movies.

Well, there you have it. Thanks Cryix

I believe the new core set will be released at select Target locations at 12:01 am "Force Friday". Many feel that this is FFG's attempt to get the game to the "main stream". Don't forget that Target carried X-wing Miniatures before it took off and most of them had all their product on clearence. There is a prior connection between the two. At my LGS, no one has heard a word of this set. All information points to a big store release.

Okay, this weirdness happened back with The Phantom Menance came out. I keep hearing Midnight Release, September the 4th. Now, that could be interpretted two ways. Is it 2359hrs (11:59:59pm) on Friday the 4th, which would then spiral into Saturday morning a second later...technically, or is it 2359hrs (11:59:59pm) Thursday the 3rd, which would be midnight of the 4th a second later? I mentioned the Phantom Menance because on the launch of the movie, I was able to get tickets 3 hours before it premiered with NO line-ups in Toronto because everyone thought it was the next day, when in fact the "midnight" release was actually the day before (at 2359hrs).

Does someone actually know this answer of is it Friday or Thursday night?

To be fair, technically if your LGS had heard they would be under the same NDA as everyone else and couldn't tell you if they had or hadn't. Now some stores might break that silence for their customers but some would not.
