Anything New?

By Marwynn, in Rogue Trader

Hey guys! Long time, no tradering!

My group's taken a break over the Spring/Summer and our campaign's ended. They're talking about another go at Rogue Trader, but I haven't seen any newly released materials for this in a while. No news about a new edition or anything like that?

During the DH2 Beta, they explicitly said that there were no plans in the works for doing a 2nd edition of Rogue Trader or Deathwatch. But that's been awhile.

As far as new publications, the last one that I'm aware of was the Tau Character Guide which came out over a year ago if memory serves me.

I would say we are in for nothing ever again FFG are clearly not interested with the GW franchise stuff anymore all their time is with the new games they are making hell even DH2.0 has had very limited stuff released so that looks very bad for our 40K RPG's

My guess is that Star Wars is currently all the rage on the market. Between a new movie coming this fall and one (maybe 2) extremely successful miniature games made by FFG, it makes sense that Star Wars RPGs are also very popular.

On the other hand, the popularity of 40k is (IMO) waning. thanks to GW's mad skills at management.

Even on FFGs own forums, there seems to be a lot more traffic on the Star Wars RPG subforums than on the 40k RPG ones.

It helps that Star Wars is "doing stuff", right now, even if the stuff of the movie is hush hush. They've changed a lot of meanings in SW, burned the Expanded Universe, to make room for...so far very little, and that's poorly supported. Lots of the chatter over there is people trying to figure out that weird rule set, or just arguing interpretations; so very much like here, in some ways ;)

GW IS poorly managing their mega-spendy hobby, and they sort of aren't doing anything, that I would qualify as "new". Much of their attention is on Age of Sigmar, which might only be tangentially relatable to 40K, maybe if they finally say "the Emperor is Sigmar", or something else they won't say. On the "Space Marines, and other bystanders we make" front, most of that is set in Horus Heresy, and on ForgeWorld, where only people who can print their own money frequently tread. With nothing going on to influence the material, no new books are being inspired. It is sad, because as much as I whine on various postings here, Rogue Trader is a game I would very much like the chance to get to play/GM someday, if my friend pool would ever go for it.

Have you tried any online game venues? I had 2 really good RT games on roll20, one in which I was a player. It takes some patience, as most 40k players there are into DH. I have seen games of OW and BC pop up lately, and I saw someone posting a couple weeks ago looking for a RT game. Try it out and see what happens. There are lots of Euro players in roll20, or maybe it's just that 40k attracts the Euro crowd, so it takes time to put together a group that can play in the same time window, but the younger crowd has pretty free schedules. The game I played in had people in Ireland, Denmark, Germany, Chicago, Carolina, and Seattle. I even played a short time in a DW game run by a guy in freakin' Siberia, on the Kamchatka Peninsula. I love the internet.

No, there has been no mention of the Strom dynasty in entirely too long!! Where ya been marwynn?

Heh, got a little too busy with life. Not enough time to catalogue the travails of the Strom Dynasty, though we did end our second run on a high note and may revisit it again later this year. But everyone in my group's so busy that realistically I don't think there'll be a third campaign any time soon.

I may be able to write down the entire campaign as I did take notes.

I understand that! Looking forward to reading it!
