Starting X-Wing, purchase advice

I do not expect the original core to become irrelevant as FFG has shown a continued willingness to keep existing ships relevant.

I'd hate to tell you this but the core set used to have everything you required to play a game of X-wing. You needed to get expansions to fill your squadron list up to 100 but once you have that you got everything you needed to play X-wing.

Soon it won't matter if you have 1,000 points worth of ships if you don't have the new damage deck found in the episode 7 core set then you won't have everything you need to play a competitive standard game of X-wing thus since your damage deck is irrelevant then your entire squadron list will be irrelevant.

There has been no such ruling by FFG. Indeed the rules for casual play will be "use the new deck if you have it but otherwise the old deck is fine". Stop with the hyperbole and just calm down.
