Yeah. Y'all are right, Lorrir sucks. Take away stress, he's almost worth it. Give him EPT for PTL and he's defiantly worth it. Still a long way from Phantom OP. Too bad FFG don't care bout that.

I have been thinking about Lorrir more for my House Rules.

Right now I take away the stress, and make him a point cheaper. But the problem is that he's still a glass cannon without an action in a land of turrets. So here's the fun idea:

"When performing a barrel roll action, you may receive a focus token to use the [1 bank left] or [1 bank right] template instead of the [1 straight] template."

So now, you still get your action if you barrel roll... but only if you use the special one. And stress obviously goes away. I would still not give him an EPT, so he would be at most 24 points. Keeping him at 23 points would actually probably be just about right; Royal Guard + PtL is 25 points for +1PS and more flexibility for the second action.

Thoughts?

Just let him spend his stress as a focus for attack or defense. (Keyan like)

What about leaving his cost alone, have his ability grant a focus token when taking a barrel roll action, if he chooses to use the bank template he receives a stress token as well. That gives him kind of a stress free PTL-lite if he uses a normal barrel-roll and makes him take a stress to be tricky.

It would probably read something like this:

When performing a barrel roll action, you may receive stress token to use the [1 bank left] or [1 bank right] template instead of the [1 straight] template. You receive a focus token after performing a barrel roll.

Add autothrusters for 25 points? I'd fly that. This fix is acceptable,

Why is Lorrir's stress costly? Ion weapons. You put yourself at SERIOUS risk if you do your special barrel roll around ion weapons because now you're stressed for two turns running. I'll grant he's not strong against turrets, and he's not reliable without a focus token. I like him so much I've run him with Autothrusters + Targeting Computer even though he's not worth it.

I think Major Juggler's fix sounds too fun. But what about poor "Fel's Wrath"? ...nah, nobody cares. Except me.

When you consider the difference between your version and FFG's, I can only wonder what they were so terribly afraid of when they designed him? Also, they released him at the same time as Royal Guard pilots!

I agree that Lt.Lorrir's ability has been designed too conservative, as others have said make the 1-bank when barrel rolling mandatory but drop the stress...and I wouldn't mind an EPT slot for a 1-2 points increase either...

When you consider the difference between your version and FFG's, I can only wonder what they were so terribly afraid of when they designed him? Also, they released him at the same time as Royal Guard pilots!

Who knows. Kir Kanos has the same problem, he needs to have an EPT like the Royal Guard and simply pay 1 point for his ability.

I would personally rather he be viable without an EPT, as it increases playstyle diversity. With EPT he just becomes Yet Another PtL Interceptor, and that is far less interesting than having a different playable dynamic.
