Wave 3 updates!!!

By tomkat364, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I'm a little behind on this, as I was waiting for what seemed like forever for wave 2 to reach me, but I just noticed that the wave 3 expansions are now listed as "at the printer" rather than "in development." Still have a while to wait I'm sure, but those hired guns are gonna be great to have!

Best thing about Hired Guns: They're Cheap! 4 points! Won't have to throw in a Nexu when you have a few points left anymore. Nexu are terrible.

In general, I would agree, but I had a great result with the nexu in my last game. My opponent had initiative, I managed to use my last activation to 'pounce in between Han, Chewie, and Artoo, hitting Chewie for 3. Then I used 'Ferocity' at the end of round stage, attacked Han, but missed, and got hit by his 'Return Fire' ability for exactly 3 damage. Initiative passed, so I immediately activated the nexu and used 'Roar' to stun all three of them (Han, R2, Chewie). Game changing moment. I ended up winning the match in part due to that play, but also due to Boba, who rocked the hit and run strategy all game.

I've preordered Wookie Warriors, Hired Guns, Dengar, Leia Organa, Bantha Rider, and Alliance Smuggler.

My hope is that all this stuff will arrive before Christmas.

I still want a wave 3 preview!

Hired guns.. what are their stats and abilities? What makes them special? At least we know Scum can finally field more models for cheap!

Also, what's that attachment/skirmish upgrade card in the Stormtrooper pack? Come on FFG, we want details!

somehow i find it unlikely if it's just gone to the printers. i'm betting on early Q1 next year knowing FFG and their massive shipping delays

if we see them before christmas, it will definitely be an X-mas miracle

I'm completely lost regarding what's in which wave. We've got what, three waves still to come that have been announced?

Wave 3: storm troopers, wookiees, hired guns

Wave 4: banthas and smugglers

Wave 5: return to hoth and associated packs

I'm hoping we see something release near the movie. At first I was hoping for hot but most likely this or the banthas

Two other things I just noticed: The bantha rider appears to not have a grey deployment card, only a red. I think that is the first non-unique with only an elite deployment.... no?

Also, although this probably deserves it's own thread... WHAT'S WITH THE SMUGGLER'S EYEBROWS????

The AT-ST is non-unique and only has an elite version.

The biggest issue with nexu was the lack of interface. As long as you're on a control map they are fine.

The thing that strikes me is they die in an instant. Pounce has a lot of utility because the Nexu is also mobile and inherently fast, but if you Pounce on someone who hasn't activated yet and then you can't kill them... well you get the idea.

You're supposed to pounce as action one, then use your 6 mobile movement points to run and hide as your second.

I've never really got much value from a regular Nexu. In every Mercenary list I've found that those 4pts are better spent on Temporary Alliance and Gideon Argus. However, I've had some good success with an Elite Nexu. Use them at the END of a round when you don't have initiative...Pounce them into the middle of a group of enemies (don't forget the automatic Cleave 2). Then when you have Initiative the next round, hit (and Cleave) again and run 6 spaces away. Of course, if you happen to have Ferocity at that time, it's even better.

I've found that an Elite Nexu is worth it, for the Cleave 2 if nothing else. It's not an auto-include the way that Elite Rebel Saboteurs are, but in the right squad it can be quite effective.

In the current list I am playing, I've already used Temporary Alliance to throw in R2D2 and C3PO. Cheap activations with high utility, I love them. However, I have 4 points left over, so I could upgrade a Trando to Elite and take Explosive Armaments on Boba, but that means I give up an activation. REALLY looking forward to those hired guns so that I can fill those 4 points.

I feel like the explosive armaments is wasted on boba. He has so many good surge abilities, that having two left over for EA is unlikely. Better to use it on R2 in your build (being a droid and all), making him the most bad-ass astromech ever with the yellow dice generating good surge results.

Thanks, I'll try that. I've been worried he can't hit much though. To be honest I mainly run the Explosive Armaments to fill a point because without officers I really DON'T want initiative. I want to see where you go before I commit. Which is another reason I want those Hired Guns.

Wave 3: storm troopers, wookiees, hired guns

Wave 4: banthas and smugglers

Wave 5: return to hoth and associated packs

I'd sure like to get Hoth by Christmas time!

You don't get the initiative, if you have less points. You get to choose, who has the initiative.

Anyone else notice that the wave 3 stuff got bumped to "on the boat"?

Wow! Stuff is really moving. It was only listed as in production on the 12th! Maybe there's still hope for semi-on-time releases!

As a side note has anyone noticed that the article is slightly different now, having faction colored borders around the images. Either I didn't notice that or they did something to it. So that is something.

The most pertinent change is better quality images:

I can now read the following:

Wookiee Warriors

8pts - 2 in the group

Brawler - Wookiee

Surge: +1 damage

Surge: Bleed

Surge: Cleave 2

Fury : While attacking, if you have suffered 5(?) or more damage, apply +1 surge to the attack results.

11 health, 4 speed, 1 black defense dice, Red+Green attack

Wild Fury - Command Card

2 points - limit: 1

Creature or Wookiee

Use during your activation. You become focused and may perform multiple attacks during this activation. At the end of your activation you become Stunned and Bleeding

Hired Guns

4 points - 2 in group

Smuggler

Surge: +1 damage

Surge: Pierce 1

Surge: +1 Accuracy

Parting Shot: when you have suffered damage equal to your health, before you are defeated, you may interrupt to perform an attack

( Something:) While defending, apply + 1 (or is it even -1) evades to your defense results

3 health, 5 speed, white defense, green + yellow attack

(Something) Importance - Command Card

0 points, limit 1

Use after the last figure in one of your (non-something?) groups is defeated. That group's deployment card is worth 3 fewer VPs, to a minimum of 0.

Stormtroopers

Set for Stun - Command Card

0 points, limit 1

Any figure

Special Action: Perform an attack. If the target would suffer 1 or more damage (reduce the damage to 0?) then the target becomes Stunned.
