Star Wars: Rebellion (1998, PC) anyone familiar with it?

By Zoring, in Star Wars: Armada

Really loved this game. I believe it was the only Star Wars game to feature the Imperial Army units.

It is ok, most of us do not want to remember Force Commander either, though it still beat that Ages of Empires mod.

I don't recall Force Commander having Imperial Army, only Stormtroopers. And hey, I liked that game!

Agreed great game. I loved the massive ship battles. kind of sucked there was no ground battles but I could understand that. There was also so much to do and lots of ships and fighters etc to build. I hope that we see a bunch of the ships for Armada that were in that game.

I really wish somebody would reboot those games, this one, and the X-Wing and Tie Fighter Games. Fraxis did it with X-com and it was awesome would be great if somebody did it with this.

Depends how you view the walkers I guess, and I rather enjoyed it as well. That did not make it a particularly great game though.

Owned it. Played the heck out of it. Still prefer Empires at War though.

Don't get me wrong, it was a decent Star Wars 4x, but imo, it wasn't a great game. There was almost no control in the space battles, which were an eye sore. I could never get the ground battles to work, so I would always do auto- resolve. One of the things I remember most though is the endless cascade of pop up windows in the galaxy screen.

At the time it was the only Star Wars game that let you handle Cap ships. Now, others have come out that scratch my itch far better.

Alas, Empire at War just doesn't have the depth SW:Rebellion (or pretty much any other 4x game) has. It's just blocking chokepoints, building up forces, then steamroll the AI. The galaxy is also way too small (like 1/4th the size of rebellion's galaxy at best). Essentially it's more of an RTS with some 4x elements rather than a proper 4x. Visually it looks great though.

I will say that the base EaW is rather small, I think the max amount of planets is around 40-50 (havent played in ages, so cant remember). But there were some pretty good mods, such as my favorite Ultimate Empire at War, they had a special galactic conquest that i beilieve had 60-70 planets in it. Also had a lot of extra stuff, special named ships such as the Chimeara, Gorgon. Also had extra heroes like mara jade, palpatine, thrawn, and a lot of others.

Also you could build SSDs and both Death Stars, was pretty fun.

SW Rebellion was awesom, speaking of Galaxy size. You can start with a Large Galaxy with something rediculus like 8 clusters of 10 planets in the KNOWN galaxy, and three times as many clusters that might have the rebels hidden base. I remember sending out old outdated Drednaughts as scout ships, loaded with 10 probe droids. Jump into a cluster, dispatch droids, collect droids, fly to some other unknown region.

Occasionally guess VERY right and have the scout ship blown up by the rebel fleet.

I love this game, too. Empire at War just didn't do it for me for some reason. I actually beat Rebellion as the Empire a week or two ago and just started a play through as the rebels yesterday.

Glad i'm not the only one then! Rebellion and a new X-Wing/TIE Fighter game are my absolute must have remake games in my dream list. We won't ever get a Rebellion one unfortunately though, didn't review well and was pretty impenetrable to the casual player (it's telling that it's half the price on good old games compared to the other SW games! Same as that embarassing Starfighter prequal game)

What would be your priority Ships or Characters you could get from Rebellion to put into Armada? Dreadnaught, Assault Frigate and Escort Carrier springs to my mind.

never thought to try that tactic I would just send the cheapest/useless ship to each planet one at a time you way sound much faster

I always hoped for a Rebellion 2. Or at least a Paradox Game for Star Wars.

At least we get Stellaris now and with the crazy Paradox modders I hope to see Star Wars, Star Trek and 40k as mods soon.
