Star Wars: Rebellion (1998, PC) anyone familiar with it?

By Zoring, in Star Wars: Armada

Hello chaps, Star Wars Rebellion was a game I massively enjoyed back in the day, and I am hoping I wasn't the only one! I am so glad Armada has come out to scratch that itch I have been missing for many years,

Rebellion_interfaz_1.jpg

It had a lot of ships and officers/admirals and characters (many of the pictures on wookipedia are actually from it) I guess that more than a couple of ideas, ships and characters that could be culled from it, as we have seen from FF's releases they are happy to take from the EU when required and Rebellion was fortunately produced before the.. unpleasantness that occurred in 1999.

Also do you guys think we will ever get some sort of 'character pack' admirals, officers, things like that seperate from ship releases, because the Star Wars universe has a lot more upper echelon characters that suit the scale of Armada perfectly, as well as being less famous or busy than the characters from the films, Rebellion immedaitly came to mind when I was reading through my Armada box set, there was a pile of fairly obscure characters like Thanas, Klev, Narra, Virgilio they were all taken from the EU books and comics back then and would make some excellent additions to the game.

As well as of course ones that have no doubt been suggested many times like Palleon, Thrawn were also in the game, it had a encyclopedia of all the characters and ships then in the SW universe and I read it extensively its where I got most of my knowledge of the SWEU! I guess some of you might be of the right age to also have experienced that!

Sorry if this has come up I did a search and found nothing

Yes I love this game, still play it. You can get it on GOG :)

It was known as Supremacy in the UK (and possibly Europe).

The cinematic for Rebels assaulting Coruscant is awesome. I'd love to play multiplayer of this sometime as never got a chance to when younger, but I feel it'd take way too long unless galaxy size is medium.

Flip Gorham and Balmora and you should get Averam and Chandrilla for free, which means the Rebel planets will cascade and join you.

loved that game.

Yeah and me, wasn't perfect but had some great points

Ah, the memories.

My brain now permanently associating that one clip of music with the game.

10 Find planet with rebel troops. 20 Orbital bombardment. 30 GOTO 10.

Hmmm, how dangerous can that planetary turbolaser be, really? Orbital bombardment. What!?! Give me back my Star Destroyer!

The first time you deploy an Interdictor (no more running Rebel scum).

Ultimate shipyard sector with multiple planets each capable of cranking out an Imperial II per month.

Putting Han Solo on a Star Galleon and keeping it constantly in hyperspace between the two furthest points of my Empire so the frakker could never escape.

Good times.

One of my favorite games of all times. It unfortunately hasn't aged well (especially the ship combat visually) but **** did that game have ambiance and depth with the awesome character missions (Once I had Darth Vader get captured trying to assassinate some nameless unimportant rebel character...how did that happen lol. Then I spend countless turns trying to find the Rebel fleet that held him captive only to get him killed by blowing up the ship he was held on during the rescue attempt :o )

I honestly greatly prefer it over the Empire at War series if not for the visuals. If they ever do a proper remake I'd rejoice. Atm I make do with a Star Ruler 2 (a highly underrated 4x game) mod that includes the Empire into the game.

edit: also, the cinematics were awesome for its time. Especially the one when you capture Coruscant as the Rebels, or the one you get when you are defeated as the Empire (super star destroyer getting pwned by a rebel fleet)

The last paragraph of the Empire Loses crawl is oddly apt...

Loved this game way back when.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about regarding "winning", though. : )

Half my post in this forum have been about the ships i would like to see from this game

Love the game still playing if to this day I love to play the small galaxy on hard and try to win the game in less then 1000 days

Loved most aspects of this game as well....nothing else really approached its combination of strategy and action at the time, and very little has since. The main downside was the real-time messaging, and the multitude of constant alerts you had to respond to.

Now I feel ashamed...i have never heard of this game (or if I had, I completely forgot about it) :(

Played it and loved it. Golden oldie.

I still break out this game regularly. Love it.

I loved Rebellion. Im hoping FFG has all of its ships appear in Armada and the RPG plus that all of its ships that are currently non-canon get added to the anon ASAP.

I usually play as the Rebels for the same reason I usually do so in Empire at War, and currently always do so in Armada. Namely I prefer the Rebel fleet capship inventory in all three games to the Imperial inventory. Rebellion has a copule of Imp capship classes I like but the Rebels have more, Empire at War as no Imp capship classes I particularly like while Armada has one I really like upcoming and hopefully more to follow.

What's the dumbest thing you have ever seen the AI do in Rebellion?

I once won because I captured Palpatine while he was running a mision on one of my most heavily defended worlds after I had captured Vader months before and taken Coruscant a few weeks earlier.

No I don't still have the boxes for this game and wonder about installing it to play and hope that FFG puts most of these ships into Armada!

I played the heck out of this game back in the day. Tried to dust it off and give her a run again just last month, but it won't work on my new computer.

I almost cried...

GOG.com has it available for purchase and download. for $5.99

very Still play it I love this game.

Currently playing it for the 1 billion zillion time. Loving it still.

All this talk makes me want to play it tonight instead of playing armada.

I still have the box for Star Wars Supremacy (in the UK) somewhere. I'll probably buy this again from GoG soon.

Really loved this game. I believe it was the only Star Wars game to feature the Imperial Army units.

I only ever play Empire in the strategy games, simply because nearly all their units are recognisable. The tanks and many of the ships fielded by Rebels in this game and Empire At War are original to those games, so they don't feel as cool as moving AT-ATs around.

Ah Rebellion, how I loved thee...

Off to GOG now!!! :D

Owned it way back then and bought a copy from GOG a couple of months ago. Now it is just one of the things competing for my limited leisure time.

Really loved this game. I believe it was the only Star Wars game to feature the Imperial Army units.

It is ok, most of us do not want to remember Force Commander either, though it still beat that Ages of Empires mod.
