Carrying beginner game pregens over to the main game?

By Hatdecoy, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello, all! So,I ran the intro adventure from the beginner set for my game group and they loved it - so much so that we're moving directly on to the big game next week. Three of the players are just going to continue on with the pregens (adding on Obligations and such, of course.)

The fourth player is creating a character from scratch, and I was wondering if the beginner pregen characters are statted up equivalently to a new main book character? They look roughly even at first glance, but I'm not yet a seasoned pro. Anyone know? Thank you!

The pre-gens aren’t made quite according to the rules. They’re actually a little more advanced than characters would be if they were done totally according to the rules, but not by that much.

Pre-gens are something you want to be immediately useful if you’re running the game at a convention, and you don’t have to worry so much about characters that would be normally used in a long-term game.

If you give a regular PC an extra 15-20 XP or so, they should probably be roughly equivalent.

They wouldn`t be so hard to remake by the rules. Keep the names and story, add the xp you need if you have to.

When I ran the game from the core book a couple of years ago, there was a mix of pre-gens and custom-mades, and some players noticed that the pre-gens broke the rules a little bit. If your players are confident enough to re-create the characters, that might be a nice idea, otherwise it's not too big a deal and just carry on.

The AoR and F&D pre-gens seem to generally do a better job of sticking to the char-gen rules provided in their respective core rulebooks. For AoR, the pre-gens are assumed to have the extra 1000 credits for picking the Base of Operations as their starting group resource. F&D pre-gens are a little trickier, as half of them have basic lightsabers, but otherwise seem to line up given none of the pre-gens have purchased talents and instead spent their XP on increasing characteristics and buying at least one Force power with an upgrade or two.

EotE PCs were definitely on the wonky side of things, so probably best to just rebuild them and try to get as close as possible with the actual EotE char-gen rules.
