PSA: Kill Deathrain first
Here is my question. Should I buy two or one Tie Punisher?
I saw opinions that flying Redline and Deatrain together won't be very efficient so I wonder if it's worth it

Why aren't they efficient together?
I wonder if both would be awesome in Epic coming in from different angles each with a pair of bombers?

One TIE Punisher is probably enough, unless you're going to do some variant of Accuracy Corrector + bomb spam, or want more copies of Cluster Mines / Extra Munitions for the eventual TIE Bomber swarm.
Above Frank's response is bold. When a ship spends a focus token during an attack, it changes all focus results to hit results. Therefore it can change all (0) focus results into (0) hit results.
Oicunn Double-Tap:
Have you heard of this and will it work?
Oicunn 42
Dauntless 2
Engine upgrade 4
Daredevil 3
Yorr (Lambda)
A) Could Oicunn move and bump . Yorr takes stress. Activate Dauntless to Daredevil (for free) then move and bump the same ship? Plus Yorr will take the second stress.
Yes this works.
B) Since Yorr is taking stress could Oicunn then activate Dauntless a second time for another action such as boost, focus, etc…
Yes, in fact you don’t need Yorr to make this work. In the new FAQ it talks about how actions can be “nested” in other words you can resolve an effect in the middle of another effect.
So, Oicunn could overlap a ship (dealing 1 damage), use Dauntless to perform a free Daredevil action (dealing another damage), after overlapping again use Dauntless again to perform a free action (i.e. focus), then you would receive 1 stress from using Dauntless a second time, then receive 1 stress from using Daredevil, then receive 1 stress from using Dauntless the first time.
Thanks for asking,
Frank Brooks
Here is the continued conversation below:
And Frank's response againIf I understand you right...
Three stress total
- Oicunn overlaps dealing 1 damage
- Triggering Dauntless #1 gives a free action - But the stress isn't until the action is complete?
- Free Action Daredevil move - But the stress isn't until the action is complete?
- Causing overlap and dealing another damage
- Triggering Dauntless #2 gives a free action - But the stress isn't until the action is complete?
- Free Action Focus or something else
- Stress 1 from Dauntless #2
- Stress 2 from Daredevil
- Stress 3 from Dauntless #1
Two damage total
Is that correct? None of the stress is applied until all of the actions are complete?
Thank you for your help,
Ken,
Yes, that is correct. It only works that way since Dauntless triggers after either the “Execute Maneuver” step or after executing a maneuver.
If an A-wing was equipped with Daredevil and Push the Limit, that ship could not perform a Daredevil action and follow it with a free action using Push the Limit since the stress is given at the end of the action. It is merely that Dauntless is triggered during the Daredevil action that allows it to trigger twice.

who says you have to fly both (or any) or the named pilots in a list ?

Because throwing bombs instead of dropping them is always a good idea!

OK - so who says the second (or even the third) Punisher pilot has to be Redline ?
He's also awesome. Deathrain is the bomber, Redline is the missile/torp master.

We looked at the Connor net thing to and decided that the effect happens immediately and overrides your dial. If I remember the argument it was the Leebo FAQ that prompted the consensus. Also, the same type of thing could happen with proximity mine. If you get a crit that gives you a stress before you reveal your dial and you have a red maneuver on the dial, technically your opponent would set your dial, though at the time of dial setting you were in the clear. Being able to drop bombs out front is game changing, literally. And then getting him an extra action to add a TL in there to boot gives you the ability to deal massive amounts of damage on any turn. I played him last night and he was brutal.
This interpretation causes an interesting interaction with the Decimator.
If the Deci is hit with a Conner net before activating but had its dial set to a white 1 forward, it completes its maneuver as normal and removes the ion tokens.
It's probably going to happen pretty rarely tho so we can probably call this a.......
Wait for it.....
Conner case

BTW - we're referring to Deathrain as "him" - maybe maybe not
But Redline is clearly the female bomber pilot from TIE Fighter

Redline is Juno Eclipses successor as male Commander of the Black Eight Squadron
I really like Accuracy Corrector on Deathrain - because he's often using an action for a bomb OR he's boosting to get position for a bomb. Accuracy corrector lets you keep up the laser offense while focusing on bomb placement - it's a bit different from enhanced scopes - but the drop on reveal bombs actually like higher P.S. - and Deathrain sits in a neat place, low enough to force the higher P.S. stuff to dance around the seismics - while allowing him to place mines on them - while being able to totally know when to place the seismics for the low P.S. stuff - Enhanced scopes makes the on reveal bombs more a guessing game - but it is very good for mine placement.
Because Cluster Missiles on Redline is insanity!
I've got not problem running 2 Tie Punishers in a list. There are some decent 31 point or less ships you can throw in, and more on the way.
Any of the named Tie Advanced pilots,
a beefy Interceptor,
a shuttle with a few upgrades,
The Inquisitor's Tie in a while.

Bah! Spoilsport!
I was utterly ruined tonight by Deathrain. Three of my four ships were taken out by well-placed bombs and mines, either thrown at me, or dumped out the back end of the TIE at me. It was brutal. Of course, crappy rolls don't help... but you don't need to make the rolls if you don't let Deathrain chuck bombs at you.
Two prox mines, and then two of the three cluster mines. All instant hits.
All hail Deathrain.
really? I found that deathrain didnt last long enough to do enough damage. =/
I've used Deathrain to good effect. I've used the old school bombs (Seismic and Proton) and managed to kill a Corran Horn with one. In a way, having bombs on Deathrain gives you a mini advanced sensors...in one game, Deathrain was taking a beating and about to die. I sacrificed one of my unused Seismics just for the barrel roll...got me out of arc and in position to puke out a Proton bomb next turn and do some major damage.
Just uh...don't puke out a bomb and then think you're going to K-Turn after. You're not going to clear it...
I ignored Deathrain, to my peril. I was paying more attention to taking out Soontir and his escort first. Then found myself having bombs belched all over me.
I really like at least one slot filled with seismic charges, being able to shoot it out ahead of him and then get out is nice. I pulled a risky move and put the seismic charge out front, used advanced sensors to 1 bank boost to the right and then move 3 bank to the right to get out of there. Opponent didn't expect it and I killed 2 ships ![]()

Skip to the sequence that starts about the 4:05 mark and you'll see what I mean
Well unloading ordnance, killing multiple bandits and mad piloting skillz makes me think she's Deathrain rather.

She didn't drop a single bomb, if anything her red scar and missile skillz make her a perfect redline fit.
Played 2 games yesterday against Deathrain and I got ROLFSTOMPed by him so bad in the 2nd game it left me stunned. During one crucial turn he effectively dodged my block, proton bombed 3 of my ships and blocked Poe all in one move putting him in position to shoot the back of a ship he just bombed after that. Once he gets his rhythm going he truly lives up to his name sake.
At the moment I'm still at a loss on how to best engage him; Proton Bombs and Adv Sensors give him a lot of flexibility and wrecks a lot of things especially closed formations. The only time I was successful against Deathrain was when I brought TLTs and my opponent kitted him with Conner Nets instead, which didn't scare me as much. He went down fast but not after he dropped a very well position cluster mine; right on the flight path of Poe! He would've died if I hadn't rolled terrible at the right moment.
Honestly, other than TLTs I'm not sure what I'm gonna do when I come up against Deathrain again. Any advice would help:)
