Fun gripes!

By Alderaan Crumbs, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

In the spirit of having fun, what are your pointless gripes with the Star Wars line? Nothing mean or spiteful, just little things that bug you in funny ways.

For me it's:

That the Smuggler career isn't called "Scoundrel". A pilot, thief and smuggler could be scoundrels, but not every smuggler is a pilot, thief or scoundrel.

Until you can send blaster bolts back to the shooter, you're DEflecting. Call it such until you get REflect.

The RAW need to be changed insisting that you get no benefit from the "Utinni!" Talent unless you actually shout it before use.

The last one is a joke. Sort of.

I shout "Utinni!" in a high pitched voice everytime I read it (yes, now too).

I look at the spines of the three core rulebooks together on my shelf, and I wonder if F&D should actually be an eggshell blue.

That's very patriotic, sir! I'd have to put them out of order if F&D was blue and I can't have that.

It still puzzles me to this day why they didn't give the parry, riposte, deflect and reflect talents their standard cromulent names.

I think calling it Parry, Improved Parry and Supreme Parry (à la D&D3) leaves clear that they are linked talents.

Eggshell would be the wrong blue. Union Jack blue has a bit more gravitas about it. It's the chromatic equivalent of Judi Dench's resting face.

Maybe a nice teal for F&D instead.

In general, the terminology sucks. I have had this problem since Edge came out. A lot of talents are well balanced, but the name doesn't accurately reflect what they do. My worst problem is probably the force talent Sense Danger, which removes 2 blacks from a roll 1x per session. A great talent, but not what I would call Sensing Danger.

I've got to second the Scoundrel/Smuggler thing. That one has been a minor peeve since day one.

I think they went all wrong when they made careers and specs... it should've been class-less.

All those new weapons and vehicles without illustrations, especially if they don't have one from Legends? Call me annoyed.

Calling Careers "Archeotypes" would fit with what they actually have in mind much better.

Jedi not being a career in EotE...

(dives behind the sofa, giggling maniacally)

SECOND!

Though, I like the specs.

Also, where is my instinctive astrogation (sense)? How do you expect me to "lawl! GG!" out of space combat, or sneak on board a cap ship and make everyone have heart attacks?

You can still do that, just don't charge any XP for a new spec. Of course, you need some mechanism to keep people from diving into all the specs and taking all the cheap stuff...

None of the books include the Quixotic Jedi or Brash Pilot specialisations.

Now you're just being a smartass ;) giving me a suggestion and everything... Not. What. I. Wanted. I don't want to solve it, I want them to redesign the whole game, because that makes the most sense to make the game as I want it, which is of course obviously how it should be, because you know, because I say so. Oh and I designed at least three different modern day rpgs when I was 10 and have been playing rpgs since I was 8 so I am a heavy weight with so much experience that no one can think of anything I haven't already thought about and improved upon, so I know what I'm talking about. that goes without saying.

Actually, I'll second the OP, the smuggler-scoundrel thing.

And I wish they'd designed the system and combat to make checks less static, using some sort of opposed check instead. I mean, it works perfectly well as is, but imagine the system designed around something like that... that could've been nice.

Well, at least you can be a Sarlacc Enforcer in the new Bounty Hunter splatbook!

That sounds like a lonely and tedious job. And I'm pretty sure the Sarlacc can fight its own battles.

Also, which Sarlacc? The one with the beak or the one without? I suppose babysitting the one with the beak would be marginally more entertaining. You could pretend to have conversations with it, like a kind of desert-dwelling Audrey II.

See, when I read that, I was thinking Sarlacc was going to be a new playable race. Downside, not a lot of free range in the adventures. Upside, no door to door salesmen at your homestead!

I noticed the other day looking at my shelf with the 3 cores next to each other that the F&D spine - with the perfect shade of yellow on black - looks like the beginning of an opening crawl for a SW movie.

My only consistent issue is the personal/planetary scale interface. This is one area where I still strongly prefer the rules from WEG's 2eR&E.

I did think of something, and then somebody beat me to it, but I'll repeat it anyway because I'm notihing if not redundant.

Lack of pictures for some ships. I don't even need a full color shot, just a line drawing akin to what they do in the weapons section would be nice.

I think it'd bug me more if I couldn't Google pretty much anything Star Wars. YT-2400 deck plans? Check. Nal Hutta landscapes? Got it. Ewok thongs? Thankfully not.
