Non-movie Expansions

By Felswrath, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

We have now all but exhausted the possibilities of expansions for Episodes 5-6. So how about some generic scenarios? I, personally, would love to see some sort of expansion in which the commandos must stop the production of darktroopers on Mutafar or Utapau. We could add some more specialized stormtroopers like riot troopers. They could have surge stun and Phrik (ability) when attacked by a melee attack add 1 block and 1().

I think you're forgetting about Endor.

I want Ewoks.

Not sure I understand what you're asking. Seem to be asking for something not connected to the movies? If so, I'd like to point out the entire campaign where 6(4 at a time) new, unique to the game heroes hunt for info on a new, unique to the game, bad guy in a souped up Scout Walker. As missions are generated randomly you may never come across any of the movies main characters through their side mission cards.

This was something I found cool about the game. It doesn't rely on the main movie characters to play. They are in fact supporting cast if they even become available to you which is not guaranteed. We have non-standard characters coming down the pipe like the Wookie Warriors, Hired Gun(Rhodians), Assassin Droids and that tank. Who knows what else is coming.

I love ewoks, but I also hate them. I mean, they're cute, funny, brave, tribal, clever, etc. BUT HOW THE HECK do they beat, as the Emperor put it, "a legion of my best troops"??? They beat them with arrows and rocks, against stormtrooper armor??

Story-wise, I think ESB is much better than ROTJ because I have to shut off all logical explanation when it comes to the land battle on Endor. Also, they should have not killed Boba Fett in the beginning of the movie, and instead put him in the end with a shootout with Han.

For non-movie campaigns I would like to see an Apocalypse Now style box where the characters are going up against a rogue Alliance unit. This would be a way to introduce a lot of new rebel units quickly. Perhaps some bounty hunter as well racing to capture this individual.

I really like how Twin Shadows brings in a lot of allies for the Rebels to use instead of relying on them to earn them. I hope to see more of that.

Finally!!! The first person I know of who likes ESB more than ROTJ!!!!

Sure FFG is doing a great job of new characters; but (to me) it seems that on this forum all that everyone wants for the BIG expansions are places from the OT. While I think some of these would work, like Endor, and others would be fun, Bespin, I think that this idea of the IA commandos should follow the "A-team", does not work especially in Jabba's Palace. So I was hoping to start a thread where we could invent non-movie BIG expansions.

I already posted long ago of the idea of an expansion focusing more on the spy side of Star Wars. Instead of flying randomly around the galaxy, the whole thing takes place on a planet like Coruscant or Corellia. A planet full of metropolises.

New units could be Storm Commandos, Kubaz spies (Garindan), Mara Jade and whatever Bounty Hunter is left.

Like wise the new rebel heroes would be focused on spy stuff instead of blow everything up.

Finally!!! The first person I know of who likes ESB more than ROTJ!!!!

Really?

It's pretty widely regarded that Empire is the best of the OT and Jedi the worst. I usually gave to fight with people when I say I like New Hope over Empire.

My thinking exactly... except that I prefer Empire over New Hope.... I remember though when I was 12-13 years old, I was the only one to prefer Empire over Jedi... but things changed and now all my friends came to reason and agree that Empire is the best Star Wars movie.

As for the OP... I think you are forgetting about the next small expension right after Return to Hoth that will be on Bespin with Lando as an ally, Lobot ally pack, Zuckuss and 4-LOM Villain pack, Bespin officers, ugnoughts.... Then the Endor big expension, followed by maybe a Jabba the Hutt Palace small expension... then we'll get into Episode 7 and forward... Disney is planing to release 1 Star Wars movie per year so... I think FFG will just continue to follow the movies and don't bother with content not seen in movies.

wow......empire strikes back.....has always been my fav.....

you got cold...you got humid...you got armies...you got navies....you got romance....you got it all!

I'm getting so sick and tired of people like you, FFG has already REVEALED and USED content not seen in the movies. Royal Guard Champion, HK droids, and SC2-M tank. Guess what, those are all EU... OLD EU Yet you continue to say "nope, only movie stuff!"

Wow, so much anger in this one.

I was speaking about location of campaign story missions. We got Yavin in the base game, Tatooine in Twin Shadows, Hoth in return to Hoth.... I'm guessing they'll follow this trend and go with Bespin next then Endor, then maybe Jakku because of Episode 7.

But that's just my opinion, and one that I just personaly expressed for the first time so, calm down a little, no need to get all angry.

Dammit... so many diverging topics of discussion to contribute to...

It's interesting, there seem to be diverging pulls for people who want more movie esque stuff and people who want to avoid it (I'm among the latter) an idea that was briefly discussed on another thread was a Nar-Shadda based campaign set after Jabba dies dealing with the power vaccum he left behind (which is kind of what you're thinking about but kind of not I suppose). Regardless Nar-Shadda would be a good place for a campaign.

I think the problem with this is that subterfuge typically doesn't translate well into games not built for it to translate well into (Would you really feel right including Biv, Garkhan or Fenn in a campaign like this?). It would work for a spinoff. (I saw something that indicated there might a mission that tries subterfuge in Twin Shadows; if I'd rather people not bring it up here since I still can't get it).

Yeah, nearly everyone feels this way in my experience.

There's a lot of degrees of non-movie stuff. I'm personally of the school of thought that they'll leave distinct EU stuff (like individual characters and organisations like Black Sun) out (I've already had the discussion with you about why I don't think HK droids are proof against this) the tank is easily generic enough that it doesn't matter and the RGC actually counts somewhat against your argument since the impression is that it was originally Carnor Jax and they re-generalised him. I'm not at all opposed to specific EU stuff btw, I just think it's more likely not to happen.

WOW! I find the result to the ESB vs ROTJ debate, "most impressive." Wait that's from Jedi. But I personally prefer ANH to ESB. ESB has got some of the best scenes in the saga such as Battle of Hoth and Bespin, but nothing can compare to the Battle of Yavin and the all around classic feel of ANH.

Nope ;) . It's in response to Luke jumping out of the carbon freeze chamber.

Whatever, I'm done with this argument. All that is going to happen is FFG is going to release more and more EU stuff yet people will cover their eyes and scream "Only movie content, only movie content!"

The ROTJ space battle was great, I'll give it that, but the cheese factor was too high, Boba Fett's death unforgivable, and the Ewok battle made no sense.

ANH was excellent at setting up the story line and the characters, but there were some really stupid moments (like Han chasing a battalion of stormtroopers that got spooked and ran away) and the space battle is kinda laughable (I mean really? The turrets can't hit the ships when they're flying in a perfectly straight line down a trench? And what the heck with a hole in the wall that blows up the whole thing? Makes no sense).

ESB was the best at everything. Little to no cheese, greatly strengthened the plot and the characters, and most importantly it made the bad guys really, really bad and scary.

All I'm gonna say is: ESB has the Jedi training, Vader at his cruelest and, most importantly, the asteroids chase.

and the armies....massing in the winter wastelanden!!...wunderbar!!

Jumping in with the sorta derail on ESB being best. I think most people say it's the best of the Orginal Trillogy for different reasons but subconsciously it's because the bad guys straight up win. Unlike most movies, ESB actually shows evil triumph over good. Rebels are soundly defeated on Hoth. Lando betrays them to the Empire. Han is tortured, flash frozen and zipped off to Jabba. Luke loses his hand and finds his daddy. And to top it off, 3PO is blasted(which may or may not be a bad thing depending on how much you like him) and Lando jacks Han's clothes.

Lando gets a bad rep in this movie. He betrayed Han, but it was either sell out one guy and his pals, or doom his entire city to Imperial control. As soon as he found out Vader was leaving troops in the city anyway and he had been lied to, he immediately went to the aid of Leia and Chewie. Lando's a good guy who can put the needs of a whole city over the needs of a few main characters.

Oh, come on. Lando was acting out of self-preservation, not trying to help the rest of Cloud City. He WAS a good guy, at least so far as Han was a good guy (scoundrel and all), but he wasn't a martyr. What's the problem with Vader leaving a garrison on cloud city? (Which he didn't do even after Lando freed the captives and ran away) The 'evilness' of the empire was never fully demonstrated, only the evilness of Vader, who kills his own people more than he kills any rebels in the movies, and the emperor. The average stormtrooper/commander wasn't 'EVIL'...
