Han Solo Crew experience

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

So I finally used the Han Solo crew for the first time and he was slightly less useless than I expected.

The biggest surprise came when I was facing off with Dark Curse and realized I could actually modify dice against Dark Curse thanks to Han Solo crew! Take that Dark Curse!

Han Solo: When attacking, if you have a target lock on the defender, you may spend that target lock to turn all of your EYEBALLS to HITS.

I had Lando + Han, Chewbacca, & MF Title. He was flying alongside Cracken and Dutch.

The idea was he could just take the evade action every turn and have Dutch give him Target Locks, and thanks to Han, his offensive options are opened up. It was nice having the option on how to modify the dice. And Cracken can let Lando take a focus if needed.

Worked pretty well. Can't think of any other situations where Han would be super useful though besides flying alongside Dutch, but I liked it.

P.S. Why are some image extensions not allowed in these forums? There was only once decent result on google for an image of the Han card and it won't let me post it...

The problem with Han isnt that he is terrible per se, it's just that he takes up a valuable crew slot where you almost always have way better options. Neat trick against Dark Curse though, i havent seen this mentioned anywhere yet.

He is really the best on a CR-90 which cannot use focus tokens.

In the current meta of free actions 2 hard damage mitigation plus the Pilot Skill bid thanks to Arc Dodgers having versatility with the Target lock just isn't as good. Besides the versatility with target lock needed is not with modifying focus results since target locks can do that already (exception sensor jammer) but with being able to switch targets as arc dodgers can simply boost and barrel roll out of your arc during the pilot skill 9+ of the activation phase. Since Han is the only turret at pilot skill 9 you would really be better off just to take him as the pilot instead of the crew.

It was probably from the X-wing minis wiki. They have some version info on the end of their URLs that need to be trimmed back to end after the file name.

I don't know how many times I've rolled "hit, eyeball, eyeball" when I had a target lock or "hit, blank, blank" when I had a focus. He might be a decent crew on a B-Wing with FCS if you had some points to spare.

I've done this, and it's actually pretty nice. I'm not sure it justifies its cost, though.

I think he might really shine on the Ghost. With no agility dice it's not like you're going to focus, and it bumps up the efficacy of your TLs nicely. (EDIT: And you won't be paying the B-wing/E2 tax.)

I don't have a link to the math, but Han (Crew) works out to about halfway between TL-or-F and TL-an-F.

Pretty cool against "Dark Curse"!

I had actually initially typed something like "If the Rebels had something like the Lambda with low agility and a crew and a system slot, Han might have a home" and then I realized that I just described the B-Wing.

The Ghost should be a great place for him, especially since some of the other popular crews aren't a good fit. The Ghost doesn't really want Gunner, C3PO, or Recon Specialist. I'm sure that there will be some solid crew choices that ship with it but Han and FCS should work great when the Ghost is making multiple attacks in a round.

Oh dang. I haven't done Ghost + TLT + FCS math yet, but that's now in the queue. Han will work quite well on a ship that can't take an EPT to TL+F, and might as well only take target lock. Good call!

This is exactly what I was thinking.

Yeah, Han is a good card and a great value at 2 points. Not surprisingly, he is not as good as most 3 or 4 point crew cards, so he ends up being bumped a lot.

People also really like Tactician at 2 points. Since 3 of the 5 rebel ships that have crew slots have 1 agility, Jan Ors is also a strong contender for 2 pts as well on those ships.

Han really shines on the cr90. It makes the solitary target lock that ship can take, a little more versatile. With the addition of a sensor team, you can use it/him at range 5 too.

I usually add a Weapons Engineer as well, if possible.

Now I want to put Han and Weapons Engineer on an ORS alongside Dutch. Just to see what happens... Would probably be a pretty consistent 2 damage from the ORS, and you can still use it as a blocker since you'll be getting your Locks from Dutch, even if you lose your action it's no big deal.

Han works against Carnor Jax too. And Sensor Jammer. Mathematically slightly better against Leebo + Determination or a DTF list. He's a great crew I used quite effectively last year. He just doesn't have a great home yet. Ghost might be it. None of the B-Wing pilots have any good synergy though.

Why not just toss an Accuracy Corrector on a B-Wing? It would be cheaper and Dutch could give his TL to someone that needed it.

Doh!, no turret.

Because I have a custom painted YT-1300 and not a custom painted B-Wing. ;)

My favorite use of Han (Crew) is with a thematic Chewie.

Chewbacca — YT-1300 42
Lone Wolf 2
Han Solo 2
Luke Skywalker 7
Millennium Falcon 1
Ship Total: 54

Before Lone Wolf I used PTL. He's also got 6pts of wiggle for those occasional 60pt matches.

Line up 4 TIEs across the table and turn on TIE Fighter Attack from ANH and set to repeat.
