Just acquired Armada yesterday.

And from what I could read from the rules you can shoot/attack twice as long as you do it from two different Hull sectors.

Does this mean you can attack the same ship twice, if both of your hull sectors can draw a straight line to one or two hull sectors on your opponents ship?

Or is this considered a bit to gamey way to use the rules in this way, and would be against the spirit of the game?

You've got it right there, if you have your angle right (corner facing towards an enemy ship) then you can fire both arcs (as two separate attacks) at the same target.

Exactly. You want to try to line up so you can shoot with both arcs and deal more damage. It's sound strategy

I havn't played Armada yet, so I'm looking forward to my first game, tried X-wing for the first time the other day, and that was fun. (After having collected the figures ever since 1st wave came out )

Our gaming group is a bit behind in regards to wargaming with Star Wars spaceships, due to WW2 wargaming is the prefered period, but I hope that eventually I can lure others into the Star Wars band wagon.

Exactly, it's highly encouraged to attack the same ship multiple times. Defense tokens are exhausted after one attack, and are renewed after the end of the turn. So, to mitigate their interest, it's highly encourage to attack a ship multiple times to mitigate the use of defense tokens both with 2 hull zones of the same ship and with multiple ships

To lure people in, you can say things like : "Join me! And together we'll rule the galaxy" or "Let's make a deal that'll keep the Empire out of here forever."

This is gonna feel a LOT like WW2 wargaming. VSD = Heavy Cruiser. X-Wing = Spitfire.
