Playing multiple campaigns in a row

By Lintu, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I am close to end "the shadow rune" with one of my groups. And they like their characters very much. But as things are - there will be no way to play these characters on. Even more I think it is more fun to explore new characters a new groups.

But have you ever thought about a way to transport the flavor of one campaign to another one?

Maybe you could find the gear of you last hero by drawing a treasure chest (Act I items in act I and act II later in act II). Or you could call for help of your old hero in a structured way - here I have no idea how to implement this, without disturbing the balance or gaming mechanics. And what might be a way to transport the feeling for the overlord?

Any ideas, suggestions or opinions?

Such a thing unbalances the game, so new campaigns, it's just best to start out fresh.

Well, once I reach that point, I guess we'll do some home made quests. Probably keep the heroes and the overlord too powerful at the beginning of a new campaign will cause serious balance issues wthin the quests presented in the boxes.

You could always just play the next campaign as a sort of 'Expert mode'. Keep the level cap as is (ie each hero can not have more than 8XP worth of skills in their play area) but allow them to accumulate XP to swap out skills or builds. Same with the OL, allow the OL to continue to gain plot cards/XP to purchase new cards, but put a cap on the total XP cost allowed within the deck.

Continue to use ACT II monsters (even during act one), and deal out act one and act 2 shop cards (3,4,5 of each) to allow heroes to 'optimize'.

The relative power for both sides should balance out and let you play the game strategically enough to make it fun and advance the story.

I've always thought that an official "level 2" campaign from FFG will be a "please, take my money". I think about it like a full campaign (or even mini-campaign), started just after the heroes complete one of the available ones but keeping all their abilities and items.

In order to balance the game, the campaign would have increased difficulty from the very first moment, taking the heroes into more epic quests since the beginning, using tier 2 shop items or even adding a tier 3.

When I think about it, endless posibilties come to my mind to develop a very solid product that would add even more playing options to the wide variety that Descent currently offers.

PS: if ever FFG reads this, I think that another big "please, take my money" would be a familiar pack with miniatures for them. I would definitely buy it.
