I was thinking what would be a great fourth faction and I came up with this idea. The Faction would be called "Hired Guns". And this faction would be a faction that could be flown by itself, but could also be flow with another faction. This faction basic is "Hired", by another faction, such as the Imperials, Rebels, and Scum.

Crew and upgrades are already cross-faction enough that we can move mechanics around. I don't think a 4th faction would add much.

If there were ever a fourth faction -i'd hope it to be Corsec. It would even allow for a neat boost for the t-65

Even now, nearly a year later, with Scum released and my hopes for narrative campaigning made much more modest,...

...I still agree that a civilian 'faction' would be awesome. It just wouldn't sell as well, because it wouldn't be part of the competitive game. So, it won't happen.

But I still think it'd be cool.

Its not a bad idea but I think it would be easier having special rules that allow SV to be used byt he other factions. I think Smugglers would be a good 4th faction. They could use nothing but YT and VT ships. Their abilities would focus more object style gameplay instead of the most used / played which is kill kill kill everyone not on your side.

Which bizarrely can use Imperial patrol craft.

There is already a 4th and a 5th faction.

It is called the Resistance and the New Order, although for now they will be treated as sub-faction for Rebels and Imperials but who knows for how long.
