Rebel Assault... Cruiser? (RAF Mk.II mod)

I spy Lego pieces!

I've got to agree DiabloAzul. There's some odd dividing lines between ship base sides and I've always been interested in watching (never participating as I've got nothing to add) the squadron vs. small or smaller ship discussions. But I always wonder what that magic line would be for alterations within the same ship classes. That said, you're absolutely right: my AF2 isn't too much more bulky. It's at most 20% greater in volume once the sensor suite removal is taken into account. Even next to my VSD's it looks rather large where as the original model didn't. It's almost entirely about the differing proportions between this one and the typical AF.II It's basically the whole rectangle vs. square for area thing, both are the same but one can look larger than the other.

Aye, lego is wonderful isn't it? -laughs- I might have a woefully small collection hiding in my closets after being downgraded (read as: donated to local kids groups), but I still find bits and pieces now and then. Deglaze that plastic and it bonds well enough to make me wish I was a more terrible person and horded all that stuff, rather than finding it in heating vent traps. Aaah Corellian Corvette, 'tis a keen eye indeed. I used a few pieces of Lego on my assault frigate too. Wheeeere are they? :P

-laughs- Adorablerocket, I was thinking about doing almost the exact same thing with the exact same pieces but umm... I couldn't figure out what to do with them in order to blend the look. Now I wish I had more and thought up that array. You nailed the look of that one, and bridged the mk.I and mk.II gap. I particularly love the B-24esque tail though. It adds a lot of bulk and significance to the otherwise underwhelming frame of the Mk.II. This is why I wish we had some community conversion/painting threads. I swear I saw a 4 pronged frigate render like that once, but that's a really interesting take on the pair. Kudos and thanks for putting them up! :)

Ah, goodly Sir Hasselstein, that's a fair question. I always assumed it depended on which one. Option A seems liable to have both as did D. I measured the width of the smallest one, A, and it still came out to a respectable 41 meters to scale. The others are proportionally larger, so it still seems reasonable despite the sizes. I kinda hate internal bridges (the idea of losing scopes in a battle bothers me, where as the mk.0 optics don't fail like that), and I don't much care for in-line bow bridges either. I figure option A and even B are tucked in close enough to the main structure that it was partially protected. Much like the ISD, the ship's heavy shielding should allows for a greater risk to be taken in order to get a better vantage point. I was actually going to add a more obvious conning tower to options B and D, but I decided against it.
