Anyone deciphered what the Aurebesh on the Bombardier Crew card says?

By GroggyGolem, in X-Wing

Just curious.

Special Delivery I think

It says "there will be a new core set released on Force Friday."

I just now tried the second line, and it looked like gibberish to me.

Someone on Reddit deciphered it - it's "Special Delivery", though part of the words is covered up by the person's head in the art, I think.

It's at least partly a reference to WWII, when people in the U.S. Air Force would write things like "special delivery for Hitler" and obscenities and such on the sides of their bombs.

Galactic Funk is correct so far as I remember. Old thread long buried had figured out that it looked like "Spec?" And "De?" So we assumed special delivery.

That makes sense. I must've got the wrong thing instead of E

"this side up"

"A Bomb"

It absolutely says Special Delivery.

"Your Ass Here"

The card

I'd agree

Off topic a little, but you guys should really learn Aurebesh. It isn't too hard at all and it's a super fun way to show off your geek-factor.

In the Star Wars Trivial Pursuit Saga Edition game, there are DVD questions. One type of question is a decode transmission question where it shows you how many letters are in the name or phrase and the letters cycle through random Aurebesh letters until they settle on English letters, 1 by 1. You have 30 seconds to guess the phrase before it is completely revealed. But here's the kicker!: there is a second when the phrase first pops up before the letters start changing and in that instant, the phrase is written in Aurebesh. So if you can read it fast enough, you know the phrase before the clock even starts ticking. It's brilliant! [And my wife thinks it's cheating.]

So you should all go out and learn Aurebesh because it's fun and awesome.

I mean no disrespect to you my friend. But, if I was to dedicate X amount of my brain space and time in learning a 2nd language .. it would not be a fictitious scribble like Aurebesh.

Seriously, grab a Japanese Hiragana and Katakana chart/flash cards (can even buy SW themed ones), learn them (you can do it in 48 hours) and then watch Japanese movies/anime/etc. A million times more interesting, just as easy and an actual useful life skill. がんばって!!!

I can read Aurebesh.

It's not learning a second language, it's learning a second alphabet. Big difference. Super easy. I taught myself as a kid because it was on the back of the Star Wars Monopoly manual.

Wasn't just World War II when they were doing that! I recall seeing a couple WWI clips where bombs were written on, and pictures as recently as the 2000s.

[Actually, I have a minor in Japanese. For two years I lived in Japan.]

I don't consider Aurebesh a second language at all. It's like learning cursive - just another writing form. Or like learning the 3-letter and 1-letter codes for all the amino acids. It really doesn't take that long to memorize and I don't believe in limited brain space. You remember what you use.

But it's nice to find another Japanese speaker on these boards.
