Wave 7 buying strategy

By ZoraTheHutt, in X-Wing

I don't see running more than 1 punisher in a list.

Dunno, I don't see running less than 2. They're great fun.

1 punisher, 1 K-wing. The rest of my "Hobby money" is going towards getting my sister into the game. (Already have the Defender and slave 1, I just need a core and an advanced blister.)

1. Buy 2 Punishers.

2. ????

3. Deficit!

2 khiraxz

1 of the rest

Haven't ordered yet.

Now that the Raider is out and wave 7 is just around the corner, I'm curious how you will be selecting which ships you will buy, how many, and what you will pass on....

As for me, my current plans are to buy 2 Ks,2 Punishers, 3 Khirax, and 1 of both the Hounds Tooth and Raider. I play very often and already have a big collection and my plastic crack addiction is far from satiated but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Too much? Not enough?

I was only gonna get two kazzxxconsonanty fighters but miniature market gave me enough points to get a third one free, so this is exactly my order, ordered today, I so hope to see them by Friday.

I have the Raider, 2 K-Wings, 1 TIE Punisher, and 3 Kihraxz Fighters from Gen Con. I'll probably pick up three more Punishers for the cluster mines. Perhaps two more K-Wings for the Conner nets.

2 K-wing

2 Tie Punisher

2 Kihraxz

1 Hound's Tooth

1 Raider (Already have)

Only be cause I like Epic and squads. I don't really build S&V squads but they have nice cards useful in Rebel and Imperial plus and I can use them for flavor.

I got 1 KW, 1 TIE Pun, and 1 HT at GenCon. I don't need the Khrx for anything at the moment.
KW: Twin Laser Turrets, Extra Munitions, Conner Net
TIE Pun: TIE Mk 2 x2, Extra Munitions
HT: Heavy Laser Cannon, Bossk, plus this is the Wave 7 ship I most wanted to fly

What do you need to buy? Nothing.
What should you buy? What you think you'll fly, paint, play, or enjoy.
What strategy do you need? Buy the least you can get away with to do what you want with your game.

It's crazier than that.

Did you paste all those images together yourself, or is there some kinda app that displays squadrons like that?

The former, though it's a relatively simple process given that upgrade cards are fixed-width and Paint.NET pastes to upper-left by default.

Just have to extend the canvas by a card-width to the left, paste next card, etc, then +300w/set418h from upper-left anchor to paste the pilot card in.

Cool. I did one up in Photoshop. Although the Adv. Homing Missile image was a weird size on the wiki.

Still, I feel like if a Squadron builder was able to display your squadrons like this, it could be really popular.

I'm not convinced any Kirahhhhzzzsssshhhh other than Talonbane Cobra (close friends get to call him TC)

No they don't.

Strategy to ensure your spending your money in an effective manner? Sure.

AHM card on the wiki is a scan, I don't think think we have the official image. Usually they show up in squadron-building or release articles at some point, but the full-retard UID system makes it impossible to guess URLs anymore.

One of everything, because I'm really not interested in any of it but I'm too hooked to not buy them.

For the most part 1 of everything seems good enough. But for potential to double up on a wave 7 expansion pack lets take a look and see.

  • Hounds Tooth only if you're rich and money is not an issue. at 29 points this thing is only 1 point cheaper than a TIE Defender. You can only take 3 and the named pilots adding 4 to 6 you can take at most all the pilots except Bossk and only have 2 points to spare, but since they lack the synergy that IG-2000 Agressors have 1 is all you would want to field. Also you need to make sure you have a Most Wanted or Z-95 headhunter expansion pack first if you want to make use of the Natasha Pup before you go buying a second one.
  • Kihraxz Fighter The only thing that would prevent you from getting another one would be the inability to pronounce the name. The "workhorse" type ship fro scum should see some play. You could field up to 5 but much like the Rebel counterpart 4 Rookie Pilot list is not being played I don't think you would want to fly anymore than 2. Unlike the X-wing which have several unique pilots this only has 2 at the moment and unlike X-wing pilots there is not much synergy between the unique pilots.
  • TIE Punisher coming in at the same point cost as a Lambda Shuttle you think running 4 of these might be good but the thing is that 2 firepower is really weak and the Shuttles have the Cannon as well as 1 more hit point. Now you might consider running 2 TIE Advanced and 2 TIE punishers all with Accuracy Corrector as another I hate dice build. Give the TIE Punishers autothursters just to make them the tanks. So 2 TIE Punishers is easier on the wallet than two TIE shuttles or the $90 TIE Advanced upgrade kit. If you don't have two shuttles or the Imperial Raider 2 TIE Punishers might be the thing as the poor mans TIE Advanced/Shuttle. However if you already have Shuttles or the Raider then 1 would be the better option.
  • K-wing at 23 points you can do another 4 ship build similar to the 4 Blue squadron. However I don't think 4 K-wings would do any better than 3 ORS or 3 WSF would do at 2 firepower. Taking two for the TLT that are coming out might seem alright but the Y-wing is 5 points cheaper and only 1 shield less. You could throw a Shield upgrade and still be ahead by 1 point, since TLT come two to a K-wing pack, I would stick with 1 K-wing for now.

1x K-Wing

1x TIE Punisher

1x Raider then sell the Raider and all epic components.

The Conner Net and Cluster mines is included in Wave 8 with the Ghost. Have some patience and you will get your 2nd Conner Net token /Cluster mine set in due time. I don't think we will be seeing lists with 4 connor nets/ cluster mines out there yet.

Only if you plan on having several on the table at once - if you're dropping them with some confidence that they'll be hit immediately then you don't need the second token.

That said, I do think that following the release of extra munitions they should include multiples of everything.

I got 2 K Wings and 2 Punishers, templates are nice to have but I really just wanted 2.

My Fiancée got 2 Hounds Tooth and 3 Kirakhz Fighters shes a bit rich at the moment lol. Plus she's never driven so fast towards the store before!

  • Hounds Tooth only if you're rich and money is not an issue. at 29 points this thing is only 1 point cheaper than a TIE Defender. I found this one odd. For one, why compare to the Tie Defender? I mean, it's not even the same faction. I always consider it pointless to compare to something in a different faction as you might be more than willing to pay more for a ship if it were in a different faction due to how it fits in with the rest of the list.

Next, you compare it to IG-88 and how two of them don't have synergy. Neither does the Firespray, but you see good lists with two of them in it. What's crazy is that you can even get THREE of these in a list, which is something you can't do with any other large based ship for Scum at the moment.

It is pretty cheap to have a lot of shield and hull in a list. It's not a turret, but it's got a 180 firing arc, which is pretty significant. It could be a good support ship for a list. It seems you are ready to dismiss it quickly when it hasn't even been field tested yet (except those on Vassal).

Of course, I say that with the fact that I'm not buying one. I'd rather have 2 Kihraxz fighters than 1 Hound's Tooth. More my play style, though. I could be wrong, though.

I don't see myself running more than 1 ship for any of the Wave 7 ships with exception for the Kihraxz.

So probably 1 of each - YV-666, Kihraxz, K-wing, Punisher - in that order.

Kihraxz - I'd consider getting another, but people have been expecting/hoping for a Scum Aces pack for a while; and it wouldn't surprise me to see a M3A & Kihraxz pack (Starviper is the other contender, I guess).

Dual YV-666 seems viable and eliminates the tough choice between its pilots.

Punisher - I've actually never flown bombers and managed to skip buying the Y-wing and TIE Bomber, so I'll probably gauge the meta before making the dive.

*sigh*

Just one Imperial Raider, TIE Punisher and K-Wing.

I know a guy who's gotten 4 Imperial Raiders. I'm still trying to figure out if he's trying to play Armada on the X-wing scale or something...

It's a bit harder to setup a cluster mine to explode all tokens in one go unless a swarm is following you or a large base ship. If one gets 1-2 tokens to detonate and then feels it's time drop another set, oh look they can't because theres only 1 copy.

Now I feel like I have to get 2 of each unless I want to wait til possibly January to fly squads I've already setup.

I suspect that the third party token / dial / template manufacturers will be on the case pretty sharpish - and lets face it - you're going to want to buy acrylic ones anyway.
