Wave 7 buying strategy

By ZoraTheHutt, in X-Wing

One of each, test them all out for a while, then maybe some more. Not quad-TLT for me, at least not for a while.

Now that the Raider is out and wave 7 is just around the corner, I'm curious how you will be selecting which ships you will buy, how many, and what you will pass on....

As for me, my current plans are to buy 2 Ks,2 Punishers, 3 Khirax, and 1 of both the Hounds Tooth and Raider. I play very often and already have a big collection and my plastic crack addiction is far from satiated but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Too much? Not enough?

If you can afford it, that sounds about right to me. If you wanted to cut back, I'd subtract one of each of the small ships.

Was originally going to get two of each with some debate on a third Kihraxz, but I'm convinced this is the way to go. Doubt I'll need a second Hound's Tooth for now.

Standard what ever it takes to build a 100 point squad.... + 1 if its an odd number cause I am ADD that way..lol Being an older fart who doesn't have to chase women has its advantages in the cash flow department.. just saying...Also daughter getting a full Scholarship helped a bunch too!! Seriously back in the Day I would easily blow though an "X-wing Wave" at the club trying to impress women..lol I am just glad my wife is easily impressed!! And No I didn't meet her at a club.. Funny the way things like that work out..

I always start with one of everything. Then, after a play test or two, I have a better idea of what I might need more of.

I made the mistake of buying two Star Vipers cause I thought hey this thing looks cool and I've barely flown one in a list let alone two, so I won't make the same mistake again. From now on one each of ships when a new wave starts, then after flying it around or deciding if I need more upgrades might buy more.

I'll buy nothing from wave VII and wave VIII.

I'll buy one new blue Starter Set and one Resistance Expansion after 4th September.

And then, I'll slaughter all the new EU-stuff with my Ep. VII X-Wing. Like it should be.

I bought 2 for the Autothrusters. I've used Xizor to great effect at Regionals, but I've never flown 2 before. I don't see it happening.

I know this is off topic... but I am a big fan of the Starviper. I feel this poor ship is not getting its due. Often I see people try to use the Starviper like an Interceptor. It just doesn't have the greens to take on PTL. I have only flown a named Starviper once (and lost). I like to fly TWO Black Sun Enforcers with AT. At PS1, they are fantastic blockers/escorts for a large ship. My favorite being Kath Scarlet. I constantly create a circle of death with the three ships, and it becomes very hard for my opponents to get out of it. I've only lost one game with that list, and it was because I made a really stupid tactical mistake.

Give those two Starvipers another chance.

One of each and then see how we go. Probably a second K-Wing at some point to enable 4xTLT. I'm not convinced any Kirahhhhzzzsssshhhh other than Talonbane Cobra (close friends get to call him TC) are going to see much play, and I'm REALLY unconvinced by all the non-Deathrain Punishers.

Wave 7 shopping list:

1 Hounds Tooth

2 TIE Bombers

1 TIE Advanced

Semi-gloss Photo Paper for Proxies

Acrylic sheet to carve into Conner Nets

does anyone actually need a strategy for buying new stuff?

what exactly is strategic about it ?

I reckon Joe Boss would have some words to say about this - something along the lines of

Dat one go boom-boom not pew pew - I takin 4

Dat one go zoom zoom not chug chug - six pleeze

Half the time the strategy revolves around hiding your purchase from your better half.

No they don't.

She reads your posts right?

Nope. At least, not yet!

One Hound's Tooth is all for now. I'm planning on picking up a new core set, and I'm waiting to see what the two mystery packs have. The rest of wave 7 will have to go on the Xmas wish list.

I enjoyed your impression of Joe Boss.

As far as a buying strategy, I think it's mainly about the Upgrade Cards and whether you think you would actually field that many copies of that specific ship in a squad. Now in Epic games, there's always room for more ships unless you have the max allowed. Most people are considering the 100 point standard for tournaments when buying ships. So it's that restraint on points and your specific playstyle combined with how many copies of certain new upgrades you desire, yeah, there probably is a different strategy for the majority of players that can't just buy as many copies of the ships as someone like Joe Boss.

What are these threads about? They always crop up and I don't get them are people wanting to reassurance they aren't spending too much money?

Just curious?

Also I'm getting 1 Hounds Tooth and 1 Kiraxhsszads.

I don't care for this waves rebel or imperial ships much really. Might think about getting more Kirahhzxix if I like it.

More or less to gauge interest in the wave, seeing what type of squads the new ships will consist of, maybe some are only getting one for a certain upgrade. I plan on buying a lot even if someone tells me I'm spending too much haha

Full 100 point sets of everything, except the HT.

1 of everything and go from there

I bought multiple of wave6 and I don't use the Interceptors, or scyke much

Sounds about right! Ive had a Raider for a while and placed a Wave 7 order today plus another EWing for my son. Two of everything except the Hounds Tooth, just one of those, to start with. We'll probably add at least one more of each ship down the road, but we'll play a bit to see what is needed first.

Im sure with the new stuff coming out, Wave 7 needing fillers and more stuff for Wave 6 needed, Ill be placing another $100+ order next month too!

2 K-wings, 1 Tie punisher and a Houndstooth. the Khirax fighter can wait.
