Vassal v2.0.0 update, now with basic "how to" guide

By ransburger, in Star Wars: Armada

One more question: how do you find players???

the best way right now is pm people on this forum. You can sign up for the vassal tournament we are starting if you want

That's an idea. I've always wanted to play a 400 pt list... maybe this can encourage me to learn how to play on Vassal.

I hope to see your name there soon! :D

Some more questions:

Is there a quick button for Undo?

Is there a way to jump back and forth between maneuver tool segments? Having quick buttons for clicking doesn't help much when I must use the mouse in between.

Is there a way to jump back and forth between ships, rather than having to click them?

Thanks in advance.

Not there is not, there isn't even an option to assign one in the editor.

Not currently. Don't hold your breath for this one. The current template works off a parent/child dependancy. When you change a segment, it triggers its children to update. I do not know of a way to get the parent to update since the parent and child do not share an explicit connection, just an implicit one. ie, segment #4 knows nothing about #3, it doesn't even know that #3 exists. However #3 has the ability to place #4 given the right key command. There is no way to alter things earlier in the chain. I might be able to rig something up with global key commands, but I don't think its worth it, as it would probably quadruple the number of keystrokes to be remembered, and creates a lot of potential for unanticipated behavior to occur.

No. Vassal works by applying keystrokes to whatever you have selected, if the keystroke doesn't have any trait/action for that object, it doesn't do anything. I do not know of a way to add game components dynamically to a list and then cycle between them. There might be something in there, but it wouldn't be straightforward, or easy. I don't think you're losing a lot of time clicking things. I usually use my left hand for hotkeys and my right for the mouse, so its pretty quick.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the timely reply.

I played myself earlier today - a little slow in the beginning, but quicker as I got used to the shortcuts.

General impression: excellent work. In some ways it's better than the real deal - no need for cumbersome speed dials and tokens :-)

Also excellent for trying out various combinations our going back to see how a situation could develop differently given different orders or rolls.

Applause.

Hi I'm trying out armada on Vassal now. Works great! Thanks for the work! It does allow for getting a feel of ship movement and play. I only have one issue, it's that i can't seem to shift my view of the table when zoomed in. The screen only zooms in toward the top left corner of the table board. I clicked overview but only a very tiny white dot appears in the top left corner and nothing else. If I had a larger screen that would not be a problem but as of now I am using a light notebook. Please advise, thank you! ^_^

You're probably not using a table background, setting one fixes that bug for me.
