Truth. They were more powerful with the synthetic crystals.

More powerful? I always heard that they were less durable and more likely to break because they were mass-produced, rather than individually handcrafted. Basically, they were the equivalent of Walmart lightsabers.

You had me doubting, but Wookieepedia confirms:

"While the Jedi used natural crystals, the Sith mostly used red-hued synthetic crystals. Sith-made synthetic crystals create a slightly more powerful blade when energized by the dark side of the Force. Sith lightsaber blades have been known to "break" the blade of a Jedi Saber, but such occurences are rare."

In six movies and a lot of cartoon episodes we have never seen any difference in 'power' concerning lightsabers. We also have seen no movie evidence of 'crystals' in lightsabers, tho a few episodes of the cartoons have shown 'ilium' or 'kyber' crystals being used in lightsabers, but appearantly not required. Possibly the crystals are merely included to provide a force sensative Jedi an advantage in locating his sabre, but usually the media depict the crystal as actually used to create the blade. We have seen two lightsabers damaged or destroyed in the movies and neither of them showed an evidence of large crystals as part of their makeup.

Also, yes, Blue Harvest, er, ROTJ had a green sabre due to the blue one not showing very well against the blue desert sky. Mace windu had a purple one cause, you know, he's a BAMF and asked George for one or else he wouldn't do the movie. The numerous green Sabres in the prequels are due to the perviously established one almost twenty years earlier.

Everything else is elevated paid fan fiction used to explain what the clolours are supposed to mean or to give the Sabres a magical or mystical quality beyond just being a piece of machinery.

And Vader had a PINK sabre!

I still was/am disappointed that Ahsoka Tano's new light saber in Rebels is to be white so as to depict her neutrality. Now light saber's will have loyalty colors too?

So i read an article yesterday on AICN about the Rebels blu release and there was an interesting bit that left me thinking

Every episode of Rebels Recon has Pablo taking fan questions and each one I found illuminating. For instance, there was a question about what the Empire would want with Kyber Crystals (the stones that focus the lasers in lightsabers) and he just smiled and said something like “Well, those crystals are capable of focusing large amounts of energy... if the Empire had a huge amount of them they might just be working on some huge battle station that needs a massive amount of energy focused in one spot...”

So does that mean the death star is in fact just a Giant Light saber???

Not really. As was said in earlier posts the color was actually dependent on the crystal they chose/found. The Sith used synthetic crystals which is why they always tended to have a red color.

You can rationalise it however you want, the fact remains it was red for baddies, blue/green for goodies since the very first film.
