Female players during tournaments?

By IG88E, in X-Wing

I was wondering whether there are some female players during tournaments. Just curious if there are any at all?

Yes.

Yep.

I've seen some yes, and I'd gladly welcome more if they decided to take part.

Considering how these kinds of threads normally go. That will be my one and only post in this one... Normally threads on this subject start to derail rather quickly about sexism, gender roles, and the like.

Yes.

My local group has quite a few. Including one that helps run most events.

I suppose it helps that most x-wing players are older and have discovered what soap shampoo and deodorant are for.

Yes I've seen women at several tournaments. I wish there were more of a balance of women and men but I would say it's 99% men at tournaments.

How do you know that 30% of the men aren't self-identifying as women?

I identify as a sea slug, personally. I wish there was more sea slug representation at local tournaments, but Star Wars miniature games aren't very popular in the sea slug community.

Was that the sort of reaction you were aiming for?

Ho ho ho, trans* people are inherently funny and you are awesome for mocking a group that by and large are treated pretty shabbily by society.

He was being serious. Why do you automatically assume he's kidding? He's not lesser than you because him and his group don't fit in your predefined gender roles

Well this went down hill fast.

That's the most effective way for members of the sea slug community to travel, actually.

Vandor called it pretty early.

I've actually never seen any. Well...to be more specific, I've seen women at tournaments, but they were just kinda hanging out with their boyfriends/husbands. None of them were actually in the tournament, though.

Vandor called it pretty early.

I thought we'd make page 2 at least.

Maaaaybe the moderators should just go ahead and delete this thread? Pretty sure OP has her/his answer and online gaming forums aren't exactly known as bastions of tolerance/maturity/general human (and non-human!) decency....

People are terrible.

This is why myself and others have rejected humanity and live our lives as invertebrates.

(Some) gamers might very well have found deodorant and soap as they've aged, but don't ever, ever, accuse us of maturity.

And why would girls not play X-Wing?

Lots of games are played on the kitchen table after all......................

Cheers

Baaa

I will stick to the facts, and just answer the OP. In my entire career of playing X-wing at tournaments (~20?), I have seen a total of 3 female participations.
