2nd Maneuver Tool

By vadersson, in Star Wars: Armada

Hey gang,

I finally broke down and have joined the Armada players. I just got my core set last night and I expect my next shipment of expansions Thursday. I will be getting a 2nd Maneuver Tool in that shipment. So here is my question to all of you:

How should I build my 2nd maneuver tool?

My first maneuver tool is the typical 4 speed one. However I have seen a lot of discussion that having a shorter maneuver tool helps. Of course having a second maneuver tool also helps speed things up since with my friends I will be the guy supplying everything. So I would like some recommendations. What do you all recommend? How long should I make my second maneuver tool?

Thanks,

Duncan

Does it really take that long to hand the tool over to your friend? I would argue no.

It does seem very useful to have a second, shorter tool though (that's what she said?).

I would shorten the 4 to 3 and build a 2.

If you play Corvettes then retool the 3 to a 4.

I have a speed 2 maneuver tool and it's been a solid investment for my star destroyers.

I bought two extra. Built one as a 3 and the other as a 2.

Yeah, having a speed-2 tool is real handy for VSDs, as it doesn't get in the way in tight quarters. I also have a speed-1 to for Engine Techs, as a friend gave me one as a present not knowing I had ordered a second one the previous day.

Speed 2 is a great way to do it. Also, make yourself a distance 1 stick for fighter combat, so much more helpful.

I love having multiple maneuver tools. Makes things easier to place and move and I don't have to worry about hitting as many things.

How about range rulers?

How about range rulers?

A distance-1 ruler would be real helpful to determine engagement. Anything else I can do without.

EDIT: What Wes said!

How about range rulers?

I picked up a nice set of plastic (they're not translucent, so are they acrylic?) range rulers, basically the only ones I use are distance 1 for squadrons, and close range for my VSD1s and GSDs.

I also built my second maneuver tool as a speed 2 tool. As others have mentioned, it is definately useful when things get crowded. The extra pieces went back in the game box and can be used for repairs if needed.

Ok, sounds like the verdict is make a Speed 2 tool. Maybe I can cut up the other pieces to make a speed 1 tool also. I also like the range 1 stick idea. Maybe cut up a Popsicle stick. :)

Thanks,
