Question about Battlefield Engineering Skirmish Scenario

By jedijed2187, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Battlefield Engineering says "End of each Round: If a player controls a vital component, one of his figures adjacent to that vital component may retrieve it. Each figure can only carry 1 vital component."

May question is, can a Nexu retrieve a vital component?

Here is what the rules say about Retrieving tokens and Interacting.

Retrieving Tokens

Some missions allow figures to retrieve specific tokens. A figure adjacent to or in the same space as the token can perform an interact to retrieve the token. Place the token on the figure’s base to mark that the figure is now carrying that token. The token now moves with the figure.

• A carried token cannot be retrieved by other figures, traded to other figures, or voluntarily dropped.

• If a figure is defeated, any tokens that it is carrying are dropped in its space. This includes when a hero becomes wounded or if he withdraws.

• Mission rules specify the effect and purpose of retrieving tokens.

• At the end of a mission, all carried tokens are returned to the game box.

• Retrieving a token is not claiming a token.

Interact Figures can interact to perform a variety of different tasks. For example, a figure can open a door by performing an interact.

• A figure can perform an interact as an action.

• A figure must be in the same space as or adjacent to a token in order to interact with it.

• During a campaign, a hero can interact with a crate token to claim the token and draw one Supply card.

• Mission rules will often list different tasks that can be performed by interacting, such as using terminals or retrieving tokens.

• If the mission rules have an attribute icon in parentheses after the target of the interact, the figure must pass the corresponding attribute test in order to resolve the effect of the interact.

These rules say that a figure has to interact with a token to retrieve it, However, since it is an end of round triggered effect, no one can use an action to interact with the token. I would think that any eligible character would automatically pick it up. However, the guy I was playing with said that since the Nexu cannot interact with it, it cannot be picked up.

It didn't really make a difference in the game, but it would be nice to know.

Thanks

I think if you take "a figure... can perform an interact to retrieve..." as gospel, a Nexu can't do it. That's certainly how I'd play it.

It just makes sense that a non-sentient wouldn't be able to retrieve a vital component, even if the rules maybe aren't 100% clear.

This mission is an exception to the rule that you "retrieve" an object by performing an "interact" action. In this case, "retrieve" is a game effect, and there is nothing in the special mission rules that prevent it from applying to a non-sentient figure.

This one is very interesting and would probably be split 50 / 50 with how people interpret it (which isn't ideal). I read it as at the end of the round if you control the vital component you may "retrieve it" by following the "retrieve tokens" procedure detailed above. This would require the figure to interact to pick it up.

Also note the rules state "a figure can perform an interact as an action". It doesn't say that an interact has to be an action. So in this case the mission rules trigger the interact not the player action.

Again just my interpretation.

Yeah, that's the impression I am getting. It seems like its a 50/50 split on the interpretation.

Necro:

Retrieve requires to interact with the object. Non-Sentient says you cannot interact. Thus, you cannot retrieve because you cannot interact. Being an action or not does not matter.
