If there was a new damage deck why would people complain about that....

By Talonbane Cobra, in X-Wing

i think it would be cool to get some blank cards and make your own damage cards!! of course your partner would have to agree to them as well. That way i could make up odd and or fun cards.

You're calling shielded TIE Fighters with a brand new type of slot and S-looping moves blockers.

Really. Something that is at its base cost, more expensive than a standard TIE.

You're calling that a blocker.Ohkay.

No he wasn't he was saying he doesn't want the new ones, and has loads of old ones that are the blockers.

Don't try and use logic with him, he attacks anything I say even though it constantly backfires on him.

Just think of him as the class clown.

FFG deserves a whole lot of profit in my book!

;)

I think ffg are in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation with the damage deck. I Think the majority of players would agree that the damage deck as is, was in dire need of an update, as with all the new upgrade slots that have been created since the first core came out, it became an 'unbalanced' deck. I think they would have been mad NOT to update it with a new core. The way I see it, they really have three options:

1: just have the new deck available in the new core box. This will cause many butthurts as folk feel a purchase is 'compulsory'. Ffg have generally been above most wargame companies in this regard, where most require you to update rulebooks, codex type books etc at significant cost every so often. I can stomach £25 once every few years for a new damage deck, but I appreciate not everyone will feel the same.

2: release the new damage deck as an sku- for a couple of quid, anyone can update.

3: run with both decks even for tournaments. Whatever the player has, the player brings.

I'd like to see option 2, just to cut down on the hand wringing and keep barriers low. I'll probably have a couple of spares I can lend out at tournaments though. :D

My name is literally Captain Lackwit. What in the world do you expect?

Then again, you and I have seldom ever agreed. Though one of us is always optimistic, and one of us is always pessimistic.

I heard that the Damage Deck may be sold separately for those who don't wish to buy the new Core Set (weirdos :P ).

I've seen people speculating about that but if FFG holds to past tendencies that idea is 100% wishful thinking. It would be really nice if they did package decks alone but that is highly unlikely. I hope I'm wrong about it.

The damage deck is a unique entity though. It's not like upgrade cards, which are the candy that makes you buy that ship you weren't sure about. They've done similar with other products.

Ok I can appreciate it's a tricky situation, but does anyone believe FFG update the deck to get more money? Or do you think that Alex felt the damage deck needed updating. (Just like a lot of X-wing players also felt)

This seems like the best opportunity to update the deck, so I think it would have been mad not to.

Updating the damage deck is solely a game improvement. That's what it appears like anyway. Remember, the core sets are not profit centers for FFG like a Most Wanted pack. There is so much more printed cardboard with all the range rulers, the cards (including damage deck) not to mention significantly more expensive packaging.

The only thing FFG had produced outside of ships are the play mat, dice packs and the dice app. They have never produced cards and I don't anticipate them starting now.

The only thing they have produced in X-WING to this point. They make more than just x-wing, and have never changed a core game requirement in x-wing before.

They have done this in other games, and have released card packs to update the core requirement.

If everyone just writes to FFG to say they dropped their damage decks in their cup of tea by accident they'll probably just send you a new one.

"Dear FFG Customer Service,

I was playing X-wing yesterday and I picked up my entire damage deck to count them to make sure they were all there and my friend had just come back with a cuppa for me and put it on the table, and the entire deck fell out of my hand and every single card landed in the mug of steaming hot tea.

Would you be able to please provide me with a replacement deck so I can keep on playing and buying ships for your super awesome game please, thank you, please.

Hugs and Kisses,

Glen"

Shoot you should just send that as it is. They'll probably laugh and send you one anyway.

It is simple, new damage deck means there could be more direct hits.

It's not like I wasn't buying 2 new core sets.

IMO they should be sold seperately for $5~.

They sell extra gray Armada pokey things.

Can you sell yours to Tipperary for $5?

Careful with that, FFG doesn't like people commercialising the forums~

Besides, I haven't played a physical game in six months, there simply aren't enough people around.

After I posted I considered going back in to edit that I was referring specifically to X-Wing and not other games. Guess I should have been more specific.

My issue is that I could buy a bunch of expansions but with a new damage deck I'm forced to buy a new core set. Worse I'm forced to buy it even if I don't want it, if I want to take part in a tournament if the new one becomes the official one.

Plus if the new ships aren't really compatible with the existing game, you can't run both Resistance and Rebel ships in the same list, then I most likely won't buy any of the eps 7 stuff, I'm not going to buy into a whole new game.

I'm not too worried about it. I don't believe FFG could ever screw up that badly.

They are definitely in the same game and factions.

I'm not planning on buying the new core and i'll be ticked off if I have to get it solely for the damage deck.

I just don't personally see why they would still be selling the old core set without warning customers if it or any parts of it will be invalid.

EXACTLY!

FFG has no track record of doing this with X-wing. I suspect that there are new damage cards and they are NOT for tournament play. As in, the same 33 damage cards come with the new Core and then a few new cards. I notice from leaked pictures that the damage cards are now numbered #/33

Like I've mentioned in another thread. Buying a new Core Set isn't a big deal to those of us who are already buying several of every model but it will affect those who are playing on a more limited budget but still want to play competitively within their local gaming groups.

I'm more than happy to loan out models and cards to people if they need to borrow them but unless I buy two or more of the new Core Sets I'm not going to be able to help out by lending a new Damage Deck to someone meaning that they're not going to be able to enter tournaments.

Sorry, but if you live on a limited budget, you do not start to play miniature games.

They are definitely in the same game and factions.

Yeah I found the new info and feel much better about what's going on.

My poor Hound's Tooth is scared of those new crits... There are times when he does not clear stress easily...

Matter of fact, the Wave 7 ships don't like like those new Major crits either. All that hull. That also means that stress and crit inducers will have a field day with the new damage deck.
