If there was a new damage deck why would people complain about that....

By Talonbane Cobra, in X-Wing

.... When there is no way in hell those people aren't going to be buying the hell out of a new core set that would contain it.

I mean people that play competitively are going to be buying 4 of every ship right, they can't stop telling everyone on this forum about how they buy thousands of dollarpoiunds of ships right?

so why are they complaining that a new core set will have a different damage deck when they were already planning on buying 5 of them anyway?

And anyone not playing competitively doesn't have anything to worry about either really, they can just use whatever deck they like.

Cause not all of us are cool peoples...

I dunno, because I'm morally and intrinsically opposed to buying TFA stuff until and unless I actually like the movie?

But totally cool with the idea of buying prequel ships even though the films are all ****?

Like I've mentioned in another thread. Buying a new Core Set isn't a big deal to those of us who are already buying several of every model but it will affect those who are playing on a more limited budget but still want to play competitively within their local gaming groups.

I'm more than happy to loan out models and cards to people if they need to borrow them but unless I buy two or more of the new Core Sets I'm not going to be able to help out by lending a new Damage Deck to someone meaning that they're not going to be able to enter tournaments.

The ship designs meet a quality standard that nothing shown from TFA has yet to. They're a known quantity.

Ship design?

Are you a space ship engineer? Seriously. <_<

If they are playing with their local gamin groups I'm sure using the old damage deck will be fine, I'm also sure that the price of a core set isn't really all that bad for a consolidation of the rules and good new starting point for the game, people have been saying for a long while that the damage deck is no longer relevant with all the upgrades and stuff introduced since it was made. It seems to me like if they made a new damage deck for the original core set and there was no TFA set involved there would be much less complaints.

Further more. This stuff about money, if you want to play competitively don't you know there's a cost to stay up to date?

Why do I have to be a spaceship engineer to have particular taste and an appreciation for well-executed designs?

Regardless, I don't have to live up or down to your views, so this will attempt to be the last time I engage you on what is becoming an increasingly dull subject.

I'm not planning on buying the new core and i'll be ticked off if I have to get it solely for the damage deck.

I heard that the Damage Deck may be sold separately for those who don't wish to buy the new Core Set (weirdos :P ).

Because, OP. Some men fear change.

And those men are left behind for history to swallow.

If they're playing within their local gaming groups at just casual get togethers or casual tournaments probably not. If they're wanting to play within their local gaming group that's hosting a Summer Tournament Kit Event or something where things get more competitive and people travel in from outside the area to play then I'm guessing there probably would.

No one is saying that the price of a new Core Set is unreasonable but that doesn't change the fact that if you don't have the money for one then you don't have the money for one.

You're right. It is about money and there is a cost to being in a position to play competitively. However I'm a big believer in trying to make things as inclusive as possible. Should FFG release the new Damage Deck on it's own for just a few £ / $ then I'll have no problem.

Some men don't need more tie fighters a third set of movement templates and all the tokens they already had hundreds of.

Some men don't like spending money to throw 90% of what the bought in the bin.

Because some men are sane and reasonable.

You don't need S-looping tie fighters? that doesn't sound sane really.

The thing is that the damage deck is supposed to be consistent among all the players. Now there was a thread about someone who got caught with a "customized" as with no direct hits, all munitions failure and thrust control fires so that they would never take two damage from critical hits.

With a different damage deck now so many things are put into question. The idea of having a customizable damage deck seems like a terrible idea because players will just take out critical effects that impact them the most and leave in ones with negligible effects. So that being said it is likely that now you will need a new damage deck so all those who have already spent at least $40 on a single core set or bought two now no longer have the necessary components to continue playing this game.

Now we don't have to look far to see players who invested in a hobby only to have some of the components no longer valid. From Magic the Gathering to Warhammer it really sucks when all of a sudden your army/deck/squadron/list is not just under-powered, but now unplayable.

I am quite sure there will be a friendly atmosphere at tournaments where peoplen (like me) will have some extra damaga deck to borrow ;)

I listened to Rush and Metallica when I was a kid (and a hundred other bands)... now I listen to Rush, Metallica, and Slipknott.

No tar pits in my future...

OH YES WE DO NEED 'EMS!!!!

I don't even hate the new damage deck (wishing Injured pilot was still a thing aside), I just don't want to have to spend money on something I dislike (silly overcontrasted TIE paintjobs and a matchstick-winged X-Wing.

No I don't I need cheap blockers and I already own a bunch of those.

You're calling shielded TIE Fighters with a brand new type of slot and S-looping moves blockers.

Really. Something that is at its base cost, more expensive than a standard TIE.

You're calling that a blocker.

Ohkay.

I'm not planning on buying the new core and i'll be ticked off if I have to get it solely for the damage deck.

I just don't personally see why they would still be selling the old core set without warning customers if it or any parts of it will be invalid.

Ok I can appreciate it's a tricky situation, but does anyone believe FFG update the deck to get more money? Or do you think that Alex felt the damage deck needed updating. (Just like a lot of X-wing players also felt)

This seems like the best opportunity to update the deck, so I think it would have been mad not to.

Yeah. Some people probably do believe it's 100% for profit reasons.

No he wasn't he was saying he doesn't want the new ones, and has loads of old ones that are the blockers.
