Silver Crane, may I ask how you have managed to afford a lightsaber with both a Curved Hilt (1000 credits) and a Lorrdian Gemstone (9600 credits; even swapping out the default Ilum Crystal -9000 credits- for it, there is a difference of 600 credits), 600 credits worth of gear and also have 600 credits left over? Not to mention also getting the +10 XP from Morality?

As far as I can tell, we get a basic lightsaber (Ilum Crystal) or 9000 credits in addition to the 500 credits we start with. And we can only derive extra XP and/or credits (depending on choices) from only one from among Obligation, Morality and Duty (and from what I can tell you have chosen Morality like me, which means +10 XP or +2500 credits or +5 XP and +1000 credits).

Unless I have missed something?

Edited by FCastor

I've still got the Beta book where the Lorrdian Crystal is 7k. Was it changed? I'm still waiting on my non-beta copy to come in.

Edited by Silver Crane

It was changed in the errata for the Beta. I thought something like that was the deal, which is why I asked. :)

Crud nuggets... I guess I'll drop the 10 XP from morality and take the 2.5k Credit option. I've dropped a rank of Cool and Vigilance (-20 XP) and grabbed the 2.5k credits and then grab a rank in Brawl and Resilience (5XP each for a total of 10). So creditwise that puts me at 9,500+2,500 for a total of 12K.

12000

-300 For a Basic Hilt

-9600 for the Lorrdian Crystal

-1000 for the Curved hilt

-150 for Concealing Robes

-350 for Tool Kit

-75 For 3x Stim Packs

-25 for a comlink

leaving me 500 credits in reserve (400 of which I plan to spend on mods.....) leftover If my math serves me.

And just so it's out there I did ask if I could swap the Ilum crystal for a Lorrdian. So these changes should make things right then.

Still pondering taking a duty.

Edited by Silver Crane

I think the Recruiting Duty works for my character. Since we can't get any bonus experience or credits for taking Duty (as stated in the other thread), there's no reason to lower the starting value, which means if two of us have it they should both start at a value of 20.

Well, here he is, background pending.

Jonas Cray

I will also be making a post with the following character sheet format or something similar to it, also adding the background to it once I have it in its entirety.

Also, as far as his lightsaber goes, I think the following looks fitting. After all, it is his first lightsaber, the lightsaber he made as a Padawan and it does look appropriately basic, yet stylish. And I do like the leather grip instead of the usual metal one. It is the one he has kept around for twenty years without it seeing much -if any- use really. The blade is the typical blue associated with those Jedi that focus more on physical and martial skills and applications of the Force, as well as lightsaber combat rather than mastery of the Force and its deeper secrets. If or when he gets something better and/or more flavorful than an Ilum crystal (if I were to get specific and admit it, I am looking to eventually go searching for a Krayt Dragon Pearl), he may then craft a new superior lightsaber hilt or he may improve this one, as it does have sentimental value after all; he made it when his Master was still with him (there is no evidence that his Master has died, but he has disappeared; let us call that a plot hook, shall we? ;) ). And if or when he does get a new and better crystal, perhaps the blade's color will be different, either due to the crystal itself or Jonas' experiences by then (I am looking at you purple/amethyst/violet/whatever-you-are-called...).

Background Story, part two

Master Cathos had always liked to say that it would only be after Xan could resolve conflicts without relying on his lightsaber that he would be a true Jedi. The best way to win a fight was not to have to fight at all, he had said, to pacify your foe before they ever got around to thinking drawing weapons was the ideal way to proceed.

But that was more than twenty years ago. And twenty years ago Master Cathos had gone with the Republic fleet to end the scourge of the Star Forge only to suffer Revan's betrayal. He, along with many of the most prominent Jedi of the Order, including most of the members of the Jedi High Council such as Vandar Tooke, never returned.

Xan still remembered those times well. He recalled the chaos, the shock, the disbelief as the Republic, having lost most of its navy, was forced to unconditionally surrender to stop the Sith from forcing the issue by bombarding defenseless worlds. He remembered the surviving Jedi on the temple on Coruscant, mostly Padawans with a few Knights amongst them, fleeing like rats to escape the purge they knew the Sith would begin once they arrived. And Xan had fled with them, humiliated and disgraced. The future he had always envisioned for himself was nothing more than ashes now, he knew, but still, he vowed not to fade away and disappear. One day, the Sith would come to know of him, much to their regret.

Except he was doing a poor job of keeping that vow, he thought sourly as he made his way through the darkened city streets, wrapped up in his reminiscing. It was relatively safe for him to do so; Chandrila had offered the Sith little trouble when the Republic fell, and as such had not suffered much. But the arts of debate and philosophy were highly valued on this world, and many young thinkers questioned the current order, although mere questioning would not be enough.

That was the problem Xan had faced time and time again in the last two decades. He had tirelessly thrown himself into the pursuit of organizing a resistance against the Sith, and it had been hard and frustrating work. Few saw any hope of overthrowing the Sith, and fewer still had the courage to try. Even some Jedi had proven unwilling, only seeking to disappear, burying themselves in holes at the farthest edges of civilized space in the hopes Sith Inquisitors would not come looking for them. But over the years a few groups had sprung up and began communicating, and a few years after that they had formally united their forces into the Resistance. They had finally found a safe haven on Alderaan where their headquarters, the Sanctuary, was located, hidden away from the Sith through the complicity of political allies amongst the Alderaanian noble houses who chafed at the yoke Revan had placed upon them. It was a milestone in the long, hard path to revolution, this Sanctuary, the seed that might one day blossom into freedom for those who languished under the Sith. There were even a few Jedi there training Padawans.

But it was a fragile thing, at best, and they sorely lacked for manpower, credits and supplies. That was were Xan came in, endlessly searching for allies and resources, so much so he had only been to the Alderaanian Sanctuary twice. But its very existence was important to him, what kept him going in spite of a constant slate of disappointments, false starts and setbacks.

Xan was pursuing one such disappointment now. The leader of the mercenary band he was going to meet, a former decorated Republic officer, had already refused his invitation. Resisting the Sith was suicide, he had said. Xan had been unable to motivate the man via his patriotism, if any remained within him--only credits motivated him now, and the Resistance had little to offer. Still, Xan was going to try, even though he was already certain he would fail.

But Master Cathos had always said that if you walked into a negotiation expecting to fail, you surely would. Trust in the Force, trust in your feelings, keep a calm mind and open ears and surely an opportunity would present itself.

But Xan was not him. Still, he was the best the Resistance had, so he would try.

SilverCrane, FCastor, might I make a suggestion? Between us we've got three players with Sense. I don't want to tell you what to do but it might make sense to diversify our powers (especially since Sense is a non-combat power). I think I should keep it as Kovin is the group's scout, and it matches his backstory. SilverCrane, given your protective nature you might want to invest in Heal since we don't have a healer at present in the group. FCastor, you might want to go with Move to augment Enhance and make you more of a combative Jedi.

I'm not here to tell you what to do, but I think that would make a more diverse group with wider skill sets.

Edited by ColonelCommissar

Sense is actually very much a combat power, or rather the upgrades at the left side of its "tree" make it so. Besides, I seem to recall that those practising Shii-Cho let the Force guide them in their fighting more than it is the case with other Forms or something to that effect and the left side of Sense seems pretty fitting.

I did have Move, but gave it up in favor of talents. I do intend to get it (Niman practically demands it) and the same goes for Influence (what Jedi does not have mind trick) , but I picture those two powers as needing a bit more control over the Force than Jonas has at the moment, especially considering his being out of practice for twenty years give or take.

I think Korro Zal's character has Move along with a couple of upgrades, by the way. And we still have kaosoe's character to consider, who as a Mystic (Seer) is bound to have a Force power or two.

Edited by FCastor

Ok. I was just thinking that it seemed like we had a lot of people focusing on one area of power. I'd forgotten about that part of Sense! Still, some diversity would be good so I'm looking forward to kaosoe's character.

Korro Zal, I like how you gave background through a story. Here's something I wrote up. It's not background for me, but rather for the universe:

SHADOWS OF THE FUTURE - BETRAYAL

“You do not understand the true power of the Dark Side,” the bolt of lightning blasted from Malak’s fingers, only to be caught on Revan’s blade. Even as the flare of light cleared from Revan’s eyes, Malak was already descending on him in an aggressive stance. Revan caught his apprentice’s blade and deflected it into the last of the tanks throughout the bridge. The Jedi trapped within flowed out in a flood of sickly fluid, slumping on the ground with a groan and dying.
Malak grimaced at the sight of the last part of his plan ruined. He knew he was not more powerful than his master, that to try and defeat him had been foolish. How could he have predicted he’d be able to escape his flagship? Why had he even tried such a desperate plan? His regret came too late to him now, as he struggled to repel the blows of the more powerful Jedi. He could only hope to distract him. Again he repeated:
“You do not understand the true power of the Dark Side,” Revan’s blow was powerful, but it left him open and a blast of kinetic energy launched him across the bridge’s deck. “Bastila understood its power. I showed it to her. Her emotions were – weak. Exploitable. She was easily turned, just as you once were. How hard would it be to turn you again?” All this time their blows flashed and rang out across the bridge. Malak spoke again to his silent master. “Did it hurt you, to cut her down? She must have forced you to, in order to get to this point?”
“No,” returned Revan, launching himself into the air for a downwards strike. “I turned her back, brought her to my side once more,” Malak’s shock was palpable, though he kept his guard up.
“How?” he choked. “Of course, that pathetic weakness you call love. I sensed it dripping from the two of you as far back as the Leviathan. No matter, I shall kill you, and then crush her spirit. Her power shall be mine, and I shall rule the galaxy.”
“No, Malak. Her power is mine. And I shall rule the galaxy,” Revan caught Malak’s blade, trapping him in a saber-lock. Malak grinned, his greater strength and height letting him bear down on Revan. The blades edged ever closer to Revan’s face, closing in on him. Yet he was smiling.
“Do you take pleasure in your fall?” asked Malak.
“No, I take pleasure in yours,” the shoto emerged from nowhere; Malak never saw it, he only felt it plunged between his ribs, piercing a lung, destroying a kidney, and ruining the inside of his chest. The pressure of his blade was released from Revan. Malak took a step backwards, then another. He looked down at the gaping would in the centre of his chest. He dropped his lightsaber, and collapsed on his back. He gasped feverishly, the sound grisly through his augmetic jaw, desperate to get enough air through his undamaged lung.
Revan came to stand at the feet of his old apprentice. A short jerk of the Force pulled Malak’s saber into his hand, and he began to levitate it, disassembling the components in the air. As each was detached he sent them flying off at speed across the bridge, parts spraying in every direction, until he was left with but a single item – the red crystal.
“Vitiate’s crystal,” Revan idly commented to his apprentice. “You took it from my old blade?”
“You…guh…you were weak. Pathetically so. Only the strongest…agh…strongest Sith may wield it, those were our orders.”
“And you thought that was justification to loot my corpse?” Revan raised his own lightsaber, levitating it into the air, stripping it down as with Malak’s. However, the parts did not disappear but were rather levitated into a sphere orbiting the centre of the lightsaber. Finally, Revan’s own crystal – the green one he had harvested on Dantooine – was revealed to him.
A brief thought, a gesture through the Force, and it shattered into a thousand glittering shards. The red crystal pulsed as it was lowered into the centre of the reassembling lightsaber. Finally Revan lit his blade. He swung it once, testing the swing of the red beam, then he held the point to Malak’s throat.
“Only the strongest Sith may wield it. Only the strongest Sith may survive,” his blow sliced off Malak head at the neck, his augmetic jaw sparking as it was severed. Death was instant. Revan closed his eyes, and smiled.

Several decks down, Revan’s strike team, accompanied by Bastila, were approaching the hangar containing the Ebon Hawk. Canderous led the way, his assault cannon chopping down any war droids that remained to block the way. Bastila came behind, while Juhani guarded the rear. As they came around the corner revealing the straight hallway down to the Ebon Hawk, a feeling through the Force came upon Bastila. There was a tremor, a feeling that what Revan had set out to do was done. She felt Malak’s presence upon her mind removed, she was free at last.
She remembered the orders Revan had given her, as he held her in his arms in the antechamber.
“That’s the last of them,” Canderous lowered his assault cannon as it whined furiously. “We should be clear from – guh,” the red blade punched through his heart, utterly obliterating it. He fell from Bastila’s blade, and was dead before he hit the ground.
“You bezht!” Juhani’s yell came from behind her as the Cathar leapt into the fight, blue blade flashing down as the red one turned. Bastila caught the Jedi’s blade, parried it, riposted, and plunged her saber into the chest of her utterly outmatched counterpart. Juhani was pinned on the end of the double-bladed lightsaber. “Why?” she was in tears at the betrayal.
“For Revan,” Bastila spoke without remorse, and withdrew her blade. Juhani slid off it, fell to her knees, and dropped sideways. She plunged into the chasm dropping down through the Star Forge, dropping down and down until she was consumed by the reactor at the heart of the vast foundry – though by then she was already dead. She was followed moments later by the armoured hulk of Canderous Ordo, his ancient Mandalorian plate melting around him in the Star Forge’s fiery heart.
Bastila looked up from the depths of the chasm, to the hangar in which the Ebon Hawk waited. She saw its crew, still milling about the hangar, awaiting the return of people who would never come. Reaching out with the Force, she slammed the bulkhead shut. Striding over to it, she flipped open an intercom panel on the wall.
“Crew of the Ebon Hawk. For the honour with which you have fought, you are spared. Lord Revan commands you to leave his station. You cannot expect this mercy a second time.”
“Bastila? Bastila! What the hell’s going on?” Carth’s voice came back from the opposite panel.
“Flee, now. This is your only chance. Revan has shown mercy on you, but he will not be so kind to the Republic fleet or to those who stand against him. Go now, and never look back.”
“Where’s Juhani? Where’s Canderous dammit!”
“Dead, at my hand. I’m sorry but it had to be done. Flee before I must kill you too.”
“**** you Bastila! You’ll regret this!”
“Do I have to vent your hangar? Go!” she watched on the wall camera as the Ebon Hawk’s crew fled aboard their ship. A moment more, and the engines flared, the ship lifted off and it rocketed clear of the bay. Bastila slumped to the floor and sobbed.

Back on the bridge of the Star Forge, Revan watched the battle unfold. Behind him he heard the turbolift slide open. Bastila entered the chamber.
“It is done, my love. They have fled, at least the ones that could be permitted to live.”
“Good. You have done well. I have an entire fleet assembled in the bowels of this station, ready to strike forth against the Republic once you are ready,” Bastila knelt.
“It will be done, my master.”
“No, I am not your master. You have great power, Bastila, and it is only fit that we rule side by side. The Dark Lord of the Sith, and his Dark Lady beside him.”
“Yes, my…love.”
“Now defeat these Republic fools, and let our conquest begin,” Bastila knelt, and entered into her trance of battle meditation.

Far below, an entire fleet, freshly constructed as the battle had been fought, now poured forth. Dreadnoughts marshalled cruiser squadrons into formation while bomber wings met up with fighter escorts in eerie synchronicity. There was no way the Republic could stand. The main Sith fleet, split apart by the Republic as they moved on the Star Forge, now swung back around and plunged into the flanks of the over-extended Republic Navy. The reinforcements struck from below. Interceptors carved apart formations of Republic strike craft while defenders supported beleaguered Imperial ships. Bomber formations carved open Hammerhead-cruisers with ease, but the main formation of ships had a different target.
Slicing under the Republic battle line they angled towards the rear echelons of the fleet. There, fleet tenders and damaged ships huddled behind a thin protective screen. It was to no avail; the attacking force was huge, the defenders stretched too thin, and it was slaughter amongst the support ships.
Aboard her flagship, Admiral Forn Dodonna had only time enough to order the fleet to retreat before she, Master Vandar and the rest of the crew of the vast Inexpugnable-class battleship were vaporised along with their ship by the combined firepower of twenty-six Sith cruisers. From that point the retreat was headlong, as ships raced to reach minimum safe distance from the star Abo in order to fire their hyperdrives. Few ships escaped the slaughter.
In the aftermath, reclamation teams went throughout the debris field. Any hulk capable of being salvaged was towed aboard the Star Forge and set upon by its automated systems. Within hours the hulks of even the largest ships had been stripped bare of any usable equipment, only for it to be reissued to the soldiers or refitted to the new wave of ships already making up the Sith losses for the battle, crewed by prisoners only too eager to spare themselves and join the winning side.

Barely a month later a vast fleet had gathered at the Lehon system, greater than any the galaxy had yet seen. At its head, from his vast flagship, Darth Revan, Dark Lord of the Sith, took a moment to survey his fleet. He smiled.
“Where to, sir?” asked the ship’s helm officer.
“You have your orders. Take me to the war.”
And the galaxy burned.

I think Korro Zal's character has Move along with a couple of upgrades, by the way. And we still have kaosoe's character to consider, who as a Mystic (Seer) is bound to have a Force power or two.

You won't be disappointed. With a FR of 3, I'm making good use of the strength of the Seer tree. Getting to the hurl control upgrade of Move is a pretty big XP drain. I'm probably going to go down the move tree some, but I'm still tweaking her abilities. I'll likely post her sheet and backstory sometime soon. Definitely before the end of the day.

Definitely looking forward to it. Force Rating 3? Daaamn!

I know. That is a mightily powerful Jedi right there!

Yeah. I wanted to try my hand at playing a Force Wizard/Witch.

Here's my character sheet put together:

The walking stick is taken from the Beginner Game, and I rationalised not paying for it by taking the food supplies out of the Wilderness Survival Kit (Kovin's going to have eaten them all by the point when the game starts, but kept the useful stuff)

You all can do the Sensing and I'll do the shooting. It'll work out, trust me.

That. Just that. Play the game like that (I may read it in a Vin Diesel manly grumble) and you will be my hero.

How much damage is the walking stick supposed to have?

Edited by awayputurwpn

In the Beginner Game Dao's walking stick is Damage 5 and Crit 4. I was working on that.

You all can do the Sensing and I'll do the shooting. It'll work out, trust me.

If you were a Gank, you'd have to be Marsten (Heirs) ancestor..... :D

Oh okay. So you'll wanna subtract his Strength (isn't it 3?) and then arrive at the correct damage formula. Otherwise looks fine.

For the benefit of knowledge, everyone, Kovin Daur is starting without a lightsaber or the 9,000 credits. He will be picking up his reward later in the chapter.

Edited by awayputurwpn

While we're doing benefit of knowledge Kovin also had no knowledge of what the Force is, has never met a Jedi and had never seen a lightsaber at the start of the game. Just letting you know for role playing purposes.

Since we've all put our character sheets together might now be a good time to set up the dramatis personae thread?
