I was going to get Protector 1 Combat Armor from Dangerous Covenants, pg 49. It's both Restricted and rarity 7. I also have a jet pack that's rarity 7. Any issues with either of those? If I have to pick one or the other I'd go with the jet pack.
Hmm...that would be, like, all your starting credits and then some! Sounds okay to me, as long as the extra money comes from an Obligation increase. I've always wanted to see that combo in action, myself
I've asked awayputurwpn for a particular group resource, which I think he liked. It's a ship, and a good'un!
Let's hedge our bets a little longer
I
do
like the idea, but I think that
particular
idea is suitable for...later. I will say no more just yet!

That is a **** sexy lightsaber.
Also, if you please, could you all make sure to note your XP in terms of
Remaining
and
Total
(so in Silver Crane's case, it'd be 0/260. Or 260/0. Whichever you prefer). Gives you poor GM less of a headache

Thanks, by the way, for doing the math for me on the XP expenditures, CC & FCastor!

Having listed the Jedi Code as his Motivation, I should perhaps add that when I am thinking of the Code, I am also thinking about how it is talked about and elaborated upon not only in the Canon section of the following link, but also in the Legends one.
So, what do you think so far guys? A rather physical guy, but he is a Warrior after all, however nice and friendly.
His three XP-bought skills represent his training when he was a Padawan in the Jedi Order. Since he has been laying low for two decades, using his wits and skills and taking odd jobs here and there, and not using his lightsaber, I believe I will leave them at 1 (besides, Discipline and Lore are non-career, so they would cost a bit too much at the moment anyway). His Force powers are the basic lore-appropriate ones, such as the Force-assisted leap and moving stuff with the Force and sensing things, though with the last one he has focused more on its combat application; he will eventually grab Influence as well, but for now he has not been able to use it due to the fine control of the Force and the somewhat delicate "touch" that influencing a mind requires.
This leaves 25 more XP to spend (or 40 XP if we end up with a Mentor as the group resource, but that is not something I am taking into account until a final decision has been reached that we are indeed interested in that option and the GM allows it). I have not bought any talents from the Shii-Cho Knight spec yet, so at least some -if not all- will go there. For example, I am certainly thinking Toughened (5 XP) and Multiple Opponents (10 XP); this would leave 10 XP to spend on Talents or Skills or Force Powers or a combination of them. Any suggestions?
Given the background ideas flying around here, a Mentor would not be the most suitable resource to choose. Sounds like more of a self-made group, and I like that vibe.
A Holocron might be the most appropriate, really. Ships are
way
easier to come by than Holocrons
Yeah, I probably agree on the Mentor thing no matter how useful it would be to Force-sensitives (it almost acts as bonus XP really). And I like the self-made group idea as I generally like it when a group of PCs is not necessarily a perfect unit with everyone knowing everyone well from the start. As for the Holocron, sounds like a neat idea (and even that could actually give a sort of XP boost depending on the two skills it would grant as career ones).
Edit: Reading the errata, it seems they have solved that little XP-boost thing. Both the Mentor's Force power discount and the Holocron's career skills happen "after the character has spent their initial experience points during character creation".

If you would be so kind as to denote "Spent" and "Total," that would be helpful!
I might suggest picking up your two very cheap rank in Parry.
I went with Total and Remaining after all, as I found a format that appeals to me:
Experience 270; Remaining 25
And I am indeed considering Parry.
My brain thanks you, kind and generous sir!
Barring any sudden flashes of inspiration or interesting suggestions by my fellow players, the following should be the finalized character creation. I ditched the Move Force power, rationalizing that, like Influence, it requires a bit of finesse and practice to use; he will be getting it later on along with Influence though. This gave me back 10 XP, which, along with my remaining 25, I used to go a bit down the Shii-Cho Knight spec, grabbing Toughened (5 XP), Multiple Opponents (10 XP) and Parry (15 XP), bringing me closer to such talents like Grit, Defensive Training and Improved Parry; the remaining 5 XP went to the top left Parry (5 XP). Finally, instead of spending 10 XP for a rank in Discipline and keeping it non-career, I grabbed Insight for 5 XP (from the Force Sensitive Emergent spec) and made it into a career skill, thus spending 5 XP to get a rank and at the same time having it cost me less to upgrade it in the future (the XP spent even out, 10 XP for non-career Discipline or 5 XP for Insight and 5 XP for career Discipline).
This should be it. By all means though, feel free to suggest stuff to me.

Now all that remains is deciding on his gear. And his background story, of course.
A question: Would a concealment holster work with a lightsaber? I am thinking no, as it says it is for holdout blasters and light blaster pistols only, but I thought to ask anyway. I will be investing in a shadowsheath attachment at some point, but a concealment holster makes for an adequate substitute until I do so.
Edited by FCastorKOVIN DAUR - TOGRUTA SEEKER
Kovin Daur was born in the year following the Great Defeat. His parents were refugees from colony worlds along the front line, and while fleeing with their infant child from the Sith they were taken in by an apparently generous gentlebeing named Zorval the Hutt. However, their apparent salvation did not work out how they'd hoped - Zorval enslaved Avrak and Shial Daur, forcing them to work in his mines with thousands of other displaced refugees. Kovin, just a child, was luckier. He grew up in the labour camp with the other children, climbing trees, scrambling over rocks and exploring the boundaries of the vast labour camp. Eventually, a particularly active bit of exploring led to him nearly being shot for leaving the camp. However, Zorval's majordomo intervened to have the child spared. He was welcomed into the Hutt's household to help the corpulent crime lord fulfill his passion - hunting rare and endangered species. Kovin would comb the wilderness, reporting on the location of such precious creatures as Zorval desired - which the Hutt would then vapourise with a landspeeder-mounted disruptor cannon from several hundred feet in the air. To the fourteen-year-old Kovin it was just a game, and he cherished the approval of the Hutt and his staff. They taught him to read and write, how to map the stars, and even began training him to be Zorval's eventual pilot.
However, one night Kovin was ushered out of bed by his parents. In the cold light of dawn he found himself rushing across the camp, his parents fearful of discovery. Breaking through a gap in the camp's perimeter fence surrounded by a half-dozen armed slaves, the confused child was ushered onto a landing pad towards a fleet of beaten-up old ships. Many other slaves were there, squeezing into bulk freighters under the supervision of a Snivvian and his Trandoshan assistant, but Kovin was instead hurried towards a smaller, battle-scarred, orange-hulled twin-engine freighter. He was almost at the ramp when the Hutt's enforcers found them. Hundreds of slaves had yet to board when the ships were forced to leave. Kovin's mother was mortally injured in the crossfire, and on reaching orbit the situation did not improve as a Hutt battlecruiser damaged the ship's hyperdrive. There was only one solution - enter the last saved hyperdrive coordinates, and hope for the best.
The journey blasted the ship from the Expansion Region into the Deep Core, finally bringing the ship out of hyperdrive over a forested world not marked on any star charts. Kovin watched as the ship began to drop into the ship's gravity well, the other slaves onboard desperately trying to get the engines going again. It was no use, and the ship crash-landed on the planet. By some miracle Kovin survived, but he was alone. He had a broken leg, which he splinted with a tree branch that to his surprise grew with him. It progressed from splint, to crutch, to walking stick, to eventually becoming a staff he used to support his weaker leg and to fight the world's predators. As the freighter's emergency supplies ran short he salvaged what he could and set out into the wilderness.
The world was a mysterious one, and it set an odd feeling about Kovin. Soon he found he could sense things - the presence of living creatures, air currents in the tunnels combing the mountains, even the minds and thoughts of certain creatures around him. It was in this way that he encountered and tamed a juvenile tusk cat, naming it Zelt and working with it to hunt prey to feed himself. He also sensed the location of a mysterious gemstone, which taught him of an ancient order of warriors and one of their forms of combat. This he practiced with his stave, learning the use of cunning in combat. He soon came to see himself as protector of the living creatures around him, guarding them from predators that might seek to disrupt the balance around him, as well as from other ancient threats dwelling in the forests and passes that might destroy his beloved home. The loss of everyone he had ever known at the hands of the Hutts gave himself a burning hatred of them, as he felt betrayed by their change from kindness to cruelty. And so he lived for five years, with no company but a tamed tusk cat and a holographic projection, until on his nineteenth birthday when he saw the fire in the sky...

Zelt's profile is here for ease of reference. In the book he's technically a Rival but I like the little guy so I was wondering if he could be given a strain threshold and made an Adversary? Also, when do we pick gear? On a serious note, is my character any use to the group? I'm not sure how good he'd be but I like him and that's what counts.
Finally, I've changed my profile picture to match my character for this game. It might be fun if you guys each chose a pic to represent you (awayputurwpn could be Yoda if he wanted). That way we all know who's talking easily and it adds atmosphere.
Edited by ColonelCommissarIt's fairly easy to think of reasons why the Jedi characters would work together, but our Mandalorian member may require a bit more thought to integrate. In the novel Revan, it is mentioned that the leader of the Mandalorians has a special helmet as a badge of office, and after Revan defeated the last one he hid the helmet to keep the Mandalorian clans from uniting. (He later gives Canderous the helmet before the events of KOTOR 2 so he can rally his people to help fight the Sith Empire.) In this alternate universe, Revan may not have bothered giving the helmet back because he may have decided doing so was more risk than it was worth, seeing as he now has the resources of the former Republic to draw upon. If Revanchist 7's character is angry and disillusioned about the fragmentation of the clans thanks to Revan, he might make common cause with underground Jedi who also oppose the Sith.
The recruiting Jedi-in-hiding and pro-Republic Force-sensitives and non-Force-sensitives into some group seeking to eventually topple the Sith and restore the Jedi Order and the Republic sounds fine to me. It would make for a plausible reason why the PCs are together, as well as for a common goal to keep them together through the trials and tribulations to come. Not to mention it would give us all the excuses we need to move around and get into all sorts of trouble.
I am thinking of having Jonas be a recent addition to the restoration group, the new guy of sorts, trying to find himself again and return to who and what he was before the Sith's rise to power. Having used his powers or wielded his lightsaber little if at all in the last twenty years, he is a little... rusty, despite being a skilled and capable individual. And following the Jedi Code, helping the helpless and eventually perhaps even restoring the Jedi Order and the Republic are certainly his primary goals and motivations, but there is one more incentive to keep him in this group he has so recently found himself a member of: the fact that there are so many practitioners of different lightsaber forms around, forms he will begin to learn and practice and incorporate into his own skill with a lightsaber, basic though it may be to begin with.

Considering the GM's talk of wilderness, at least to begin with, I am sure your character will be pretty darn useful. And he will continue to be so when we get a ship I wager.
As for profile pictures, funnily enough, almost all of them are pretty accurate considering the characters and who plays them (Korro Zal has a Zabrak picture and a Zabrak character, kaosoe will be playing a Mystic (Seer) and has a bearded wise-looking Kenobi, Silver Crane has an armored avatar pic and will be playing a Guardian and I have a profile pic with a guy wielding a lightsaber -even though the guy has a green lightsaber and my character has a blue one- and I will be playing a Warrior). Though not entirely accurate in regard to how each of us is picturing their character (and we can always add a description to our finalized character sheet for reference), the avatar pictures are at the very least fitting.

Well my picture's of a female with a bird, so it's not perfect
Just wondering, but what lightsaber colours are people going with? Are we going with whatever colour we like, or with what matches our character? I was going to go with yellow as it fits in the image of my character travelling the galaxy. I've got a rough guide on what different colours mean if you guys are interested, but that's optional.
I would be interested to see that guide, even if it is out of curiosity.
I will admit however a preference for limiting lightsaber color choices to the more usual ones really, at least to begin with. For example, I would love to have a lightsaber with a purple/violet/amethyst blade -and perhaps as the game progresses, I may even get a chance to find a suitable crystal- but there is only one I know of, Mace Windu's, so it must be pretty rare. Same for, say, viridian or white/silver blades.
The vast majority, as far as I can tell, are blue and green, with perhaps the occasional yellow if we go by Old Republic Jedi "classes" (not to mention the guards at the Jedi Temple in SW: TCW), and, of course, red. Other than those, I have seen the occasional light green/viridian (I believe Ahsoka Tano's second lightsaber was that) and even silver (again, Ahsoka's two lightsabers in Star Wars: Rebels). And yes, there is the Darksaber, but I find a black lightsaber -and even more a black-core lightsaber- a little... err... well.
Background Story
"Your teachers at the Iridonian temple tell me you are a promising student, Padawan Yarr," the Togrutan Jedi Master said, his eyes never leaving the datapad he held in his hands. "Most notably, they say you are one of the best duelists they've seen in quite a while."
Xan Yarr felt a surge of excitement which he tried to contain with limited success. Here he was, at the Jedi temple on Coruscant! Here, he would finally get the chance to train with one of the exalted members of the Jedi Order, and given the glowing recommendation his instructors at the satellite temple on his homeworld had given him, he was already off to a good start!
"They also say you are prideful, willful, too impressed with yourself, at times disrespectful and all too eager to show off your lightsaber skills," the Togruta Jedi, Master Rhiano, added sourly as he slowly raised his eyes to meet Xan's, his disapproval clear in his scowl.
Xan shifted nervously under the Jedi Master's penetrating gaze. He realized he was probably expected to say something in reply, something to convince the Togruta that he was worthy of consideration after all. He steadied himself with a deep breath--it wouldn't help to get emotional here, not if he wanted to impress a Jedi Master--and ordered his thoughts as best he could.
"A wise Jedi, I believe, must always be aware of his or her shortcomings, and be ever mindful of the need to overcome then," he said, meeting the Togruta's gaze. "It is true I have been...overconfident...and perhaps too self-assured as well, but I promise you that this is a flaw I have been made aware of by the masters at my former temple, and I will endeavor to embrace the virtues of humility and patience. I also promise that I will view my time as a Padawan as a important opportunity to learn these values, which I intend to do by serving my Master well."
The Togruta scrutinized him for several moments, saying nothing. Then, with a slight grunt of satisfaction, he put the datapad back in his robes.
"A promising start," he conceded. "I hope you will not forget your promise while you train here, Padawan."
"I will not, Master Rhiano," Xan assured him.
The Togruta Jedi nodded his head slightly, and then headed off deeper into the temple, waving his arm to indicate Xan should follow, which he did dutifully.
"Your Master has already been selected for you," Master Rhiano said. "We will go to meet him now so he can begin your training. Master Cathos has trained several Padawans to knighthood already, and I imagine he will want to see what potential you may have straight away."
Xan bristled slightly at Master Rhiano's words. He considered his skills already sufficiently advanced so he was hardly "starting" his training. Furthermore, he believed he had already demonstrated his potential on many occasions, but he held his tongue. "What sort of Jedi is Master Cathos? A Guardian, I take it?"
Master Rhiano's eyes twinkled slightly as he regarded the young Zabrak. "No, Padawan," he said with some amusement. "Master Cathos is a master negotiator, one of the wisest Consulars the Order has."
Xan stopped walking abruptly in surprise. A Consular? He did not come here to learn how to get squabbling colonists and bureaucrats to put aside their pointless differences in pursuit of some political objective--there was a war on! The Mandalorians were invading, and some Jedi had already defied the Jedi Council to go fight them. It was only a matter of time before the entire Order would be forced to participate, Xan reckoned, and he meant to be there when it came, lightsaber at the ready, fighting alongside his new master, a veteran warrior! "Forgive me Master," he said, fighting to keep his promise and show the proper restraint and humility, "but I assumed I would be assigned to a Guardian, given my talents."
Master Rhiano regarded him steadily. "Given the challenges you have already acknowledged you must overcome, it has been decided Master Cathos would be the right choice for you. Under his tutelage, you will learn that the lightsaber is not the only method, or the best one, to employ in most circumstances. The way of the Consular is the way of humility, of service, of patience, all qualities you require even more than most Padawans. Now come."
Dejected, Xan fell in behind the Togruta Jedi, his heart sinking into his stomach. He had come here with such high hopes...
"Do not fret too much," Master Rhiano added, evidently sensing the Padawan's disappointment. "Master Cathos is not only a skilled negotiator, but also the Order's greatest master of the Niman style of lightsaber combat. Your considerable talents at swordsmanship will not go to waste."
Very nice Korro Zal. It's storytelling like this that makes me look forward to this game. I think that if we get some good roleplaying sessions going this could be a seriously good game!
This guide takes into account the fact that there can be nearly any colour of lightsaber crystal in the galaxy, as the crystal bonds to the user. With the exception of Sith synthetic crystals, which start red, I see crystals as being just a point of light (like in that episode of the Clone Wars with the younglings) until their wielder claims them. The colour then changes to match their personality. A Jedi seeking to protect others would open their hand to see a blue crystal, while one with a very strong tie to the Force might have a silver crystal revealed to them.
This is just my personal interpretation:
Blue – A blue crystal indicates a Jedi who lives to protect others. They are the most highly-trained in combat, and will often rely more on their blade than the force in combat.
Suggested careers: Guardian, Warrior
Green – A Jedi who wields a green blade typically prefers to talk out their conflicts than to fight. Furthermore, in combat they will usually favour the Force over a blade.
Suggested careers: Consular, Mystic
Yellow – These Jedi skirt the balance between a combat focus and a more diplomatic stance. A yellow blade often indicates a Jedi who will travel the galaxy protecting the weak.
Suggested careers: Seeker, Sentinel
Purple – Those who wield a purple lightsaber skirt the balance between light and dark, drawing on techniques from both sides of the divide to defeat their enemies.
Suggested careers: Seeker, Warrior
Gold – Very rare and not commonly seen, a Force user with a gold blade is almost always a supremely powerful Force user. Suggested careers: Consular, Mystic
Silver – Those Jedi who are calm and reflective of the Living Force as a whole may select a silver blade. The colour reflects the inner peace they bear between themselves and the Force.
Suggested careers: Mystic
Bronze – Some Jedi do not just possess power via the Force; they also wield great physical strength. Such Jedi wield bronze blades that reflect their natural strength.
Suggested careers: Guardian, Warrior
Orange – This colour is most favoured by Jedi who favour negotiation. Many Jedi who travel the galaxy, finding peace in even the most violent situations, will see their personalities reflected in an orange blade.
Suggested careers: Consular, Seeker
Teal – Some Force users dedicate their lives not just to protecting others but to healing them, of curing diseases and treating wounds. Even these Jedi will carry a blade, but it is typically of a colour associated with the peace of nature.
Suggested careers: Consular, Mystic
Red – Mainly used by Sith and Dark Jedi, red crystals are synthetic and incredibly powerful. Their use is frowned upon by light-side users, and thus few will be seen.
Suggested careers: Warrior
This is not me telling people what to do but it is a fun guide to how I see things. I'm using yellow because of my character's wandering tendencies. I don't see any colour as rarer than another because of crystals, but because of people. Few Jedi skirt the Dark Side as much as Mace Windu, so he is one of the few wielding a purple blade. However I think the Darksaber is not a lightsaber but some other, different thing. No black crystals here (well maybe for a completely evil Morality 1 Force user...)
So my character concept has him as a padawan on Corellia being trained by the Green Jedi. I was planning on make him part of the Halcyon line. Anyways when Revan's Inquisitors/Assassins came to Corellia his master told him to flee. From there he would have bounced around a bit, spending a period on Lorrd before deciding he could no longer hide and seeking out a means of restoring the Jedi (enter Korro's character perhaps?)
Given that we're going around the galaxy collecting allies for a great battle against evil (Commander Shepard style - though you'll never be better than Commander Shepard) would the ally you bring to the table be the Green Jedi. We've heard that the Republic still exists but in a very reduced capacity (I see it more as the Galactic Benign Military Dictatorship than the Galactic Republic) might Corellia be one of the fortress worlds that are still holding out? The Green Jedi could be just protecting Corellia until we arrive to persuade them otherwise.
I think that if each of us brings one lot of support to the table it could allow a nice episodic focus on each character.
I'll probably be breaking the mold. I leaning towards a young female Togruta.
Oh... Well... Err... So much for my infallible theory. For shame...

As a young Togruta male, well this is awkward!

What infallible theory?
Well, the one you quote in your post, about profile pictures fitting with the character played. So much for kaosoe's bearded dude pic being fitting.
