Speculation: Will new core set cause drop in original core set price?
No. Why would it? FFG isn't discontinuing the old one.

Cause I want more super cheap TIEs? ![]()
I would predict a little bit of price drop on Amazon and Miniature Market. I'm hoping.
Seems like the old core should now include the new damage deck.
new damage deck makes things interesting
the speculation is that core set reprints (i.e, X-win versus tie fighter) will included updated damage decks. These updated old coresets won't drop in price because Ties and R2-d2 are ridiculous. (also they provide the exact same content, 1 reb + 2 imps + everything needed to play the game)
old old core sets? I'm afraid I have no idea ![]()
No.
I can see the price dropping maybe 5 bucks, not all that much though.
Why would a another core set affect the price of the original set?
Unless FFG were to straight up replace it there is no reason why the price would drop, and even if they did replace it then they would just do a stock recall
why do people think the old core is going to stick around?
I would assume the new Episode VII one will just replace it.

Because it has items exclusive to that core set! Come'on. Several other games have multiple core/master sets. Also check the shop page; they are restocking the first set.

Unless they release an expansion with the original core's cards, that will be the only way to get most of them. Biggs, Luke, Mauler, Dark Curse, Night Beast, R2-D2...

Because, so far, FFG has only stopped keeping products in print if there is a new edition, ending a game, or presumably, has retirement (we have yet to hit any of the retirement levels in any of the LCGs, so we are unsure of how it will work).

Miniatures market may still be selling them for 7.50 in the blisters if you really are looking for cheap ties ![]()
Nope. Just checked. Back to normal price now.
Edited by KdubbIt would be interesting if they did stop producing the old core set and scarcity started to occur with those aces.

The current set has clearly done well, and has an appeal to fans of the original trilogy. The smart thing to do would have a more nostalgia based set like the current, and the newer TFA one. There will always be fans to want the original ships and stuff. I can see them maybe doing a revised version of it, or a reboxing with updated rulebooks and cards...but I can't see them discontinuing a starter based on the original Star Wars.

This. They will likely have the updated templates, FAQ, etc in the next reprint of the original core set. This way, when someone gets into the game, they can get 4 new types of ships instead of just 2! 2 new ships from the Ep VII core, and 2 new (old lol) ships from the original core! No one liked that they had to buy the same thing twice before anyways. Can't you guys see? FFG is helping us.
how nice.
Apparently the new core set is already seeing a dip in prices at select Target stores.
No, unless FFG drops the wholesale price.
As someone who's worked in retail for longer than many of the younger players have been alive, it's a basic rule of retail. You don't drop your price unless you're either clearing out stock you're not going to carry any more, or if the distributor drops the price substantially. In a perfect retail world (you know, the one that barely exists any longer), you double your landed cost to get your retail price. This gives you room to put the item on sale occasionally and still actually have a profit margin to pay your rent, staff, non-recoverable costs, and all that fun and exciting stuff and if you're lucky, pay yourself in the process. However, I know some FLGS are more than eager to sell things at 10-15% above cost. This is also a related reason why some of these FLGS don't exist any longer or run into problems when there's a hiccup in the distribution network.
But no, as a retailer, you don't intentionally carry low margin product - unless you can sell truckloads of it really really quickly and with minimal effort (ie: The Walmart model).

Why assume that FFG would replace the core set with THE most iconic ship from star wars with a set with out the X-wing on the box cover.
No mater how good the new film film is it will never out do the original

Because it contains unique content, it sells and because they're currently printing more.

Agreed but what does Disney want to sell? I'm putting my money on new stuff so they can milk that cash cow.

There are enough traditionalists/purists/curmudgeons/old people that are drawn to the Original Trilogy ships first and foremost - you know, the stuff that's got 30+ years of goodwill built up behind it. Why would they want to pass up that market by discontinuing a product that's already proved incredibly popular? It'd just be leaving money on the table.
