I don't understand why it has to be so large... surely you can read braille that's smaller than that?
When I have asked Haley about it they need things bigger to easily read them. Also you would want bigger so that when the blind person is trying to read the die it will be easy to make it hold still. too small and the act of tying to read it would knock it over ruining the result.
Also you need to be able to find your dice after you roll them. Easier with larger dice.
and besides: large dice are cool. ![]()

Do you wear them on your head, like a Fez? ![]()
i also assume larger dice are less likely to be moved when you're feeling around for them

Sure, but if they remove the non-braille numbers and instead just paint those on, they could make it alot smaller.
yes but that does not deal with the fact it needs to be big enough for blind people need to be able to tough the die with out ruining what was rolled.
Wow. I missed this tread for 3 days. Can you guess why? ![]()
How appropriate that it was posted on my birthday, too?
I actually have a set of Braille dice. They need to be bigger for the reasons you've said, pretty much. I roll them into a felt lined box so finding them is easy enough but it's easy to knock over smaller dice and the symbols need to be large enough to differentiate where the dots are. We all can't be Daredevil...
I mentioned a while ago that I have an uncle who was going to 3d print some Braille dice suitable for EotE for me, too. We were just going to put letters on the appropriate sides. S for success, T for triumph, etc. Then we got to talking about the logistics of it.
With one die to read, Braille dice aren't much slower than regular dice for sighted people. But when you're throwing 9 or 10 dice in a roll, it would slow things down way too much to wait on me to go through the whole process.
It might not work but it still made me feel all kinds of goodness to be in your thoughts so thank you!!

My guess would be you missed it because you were snowboarding on the moon? Can you really call it snowboarding on regolith? ![]()
I may play around with building the dice in the computer on Sunday, just to get a feel for it. Though as an alternative, what about some custom virtual dice? Build a little physics simulator based on the 3d model of the dice, then have the computer basically read the results? I suppose the physics simulation may be a bit overkill, but it does help ensure the randomness of the dice. If you think this would be beneficial let me know and I will see what I can come up with.
I think that a dice rolling app that read aloud the chosen dice and the results of the roll would do the trick.
And, happy birthday Haley!

What? Nooooo! I was so picturing you training in martial arts and gymnastics. Learning to use your radar ability and such. I'm so disappointed. Sigh.

And the sticks! Don't forget the escrima sticks!
Well, if you cant be Daredevil, how about the Blind Master from that old Shaw Brothers Kung Fu flick that kicked Ninja ass for two hours after a sneak Evil Samurai attack incapacitated him.

Nah I use them to knock over the GM's screen and peek at his notes ![]()
(Also: I'm more of a 9th doctor fan.

I do martial arts!! Forms... not sparring. And I fall down a lot.
Jiu Jitsu for the blind is a real thing, too! Not for me, though... ![]()

Anyone considered contacting FFG to see if they can add accommodation (accessibility? I forget what the word is) for the dice app? The app already does all the summation, it would just verbalize the results.
It's ironic that you posted a picture for Haley.

That would also be good for those who suffer from motivational impairment.

Most importantly, he captioned the pic. People started doing that on this forum a while ago and I truly appreciate it...even if I think the real reason for the captions is that they got tired of me asking what pics showed... but still!!!

I did. Not surprisingly, no result... (I almost said, "No dice.")
I can work the official dice app pretty well. I just leave it to someone else to read the results for me.
Sorry to hear that they didn't respond to the request, though I for one would have preferred you pulled the trigger on the "no dice" pun. How can it be simultaneously the highest and lowest form of comedy? It's a miracle.
But since you have the official app working for you, it sounds like I will revert to my original Sunday plans involving teaching myself how to rig a CG face and dealing with the expletives my players will be hurling my way after our Saturday game.

If you make the dice spikey you can hurl dice back saying take a D6 damage...

HA! We used to have a GIANT (like almost six inches cubed) acrylic D6 that was occasionally threatened to be part of the dice pool used to counter player related stupidity.

This may have been put up before, but by making the dice larger, they can assist those who are fully and partially visually impaired.
