YT-1300 w/o Tantive

By TaeSWXW, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I just picked up a YT-1300 for casual play at home but I'm struggling to figure out how to implement it in a competitive way for weekend tournaments without any of the cards from the Tantive IV expansion.

Now, with many of the later expansions it's pretty cut and dry how they synergize with other ships or upgrades. Even if you don't have a particular card you can typically still make a given pilot or ship worth its weight. With the YT-1300, on the other hand, I can't seem to figure out what its intended role is.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, C3PO is so good on the Falcon its an auto-include.

I think the only viable loadout without Golden Rod is Chewy w/ Predator, MF Title, and Gunner. Engine if you can fit it, but not necessary. Usually he's paired with Leebo and its an effective dual turret list.

I've ran this before:

Han Solo (46)
Predator (3)
Lando Calrissian (3)
Kyle Katarn (3)
Experimental Interface (3)
Millennium Falcon (1)

Total: 59

Its kind of silly, but a lot of fun. I wouldn't take it into a tournament though. Lando will let you down more than not. But it is funny when you get a focus from Kyle, then evade with your action, then EI to activate Lando, and you roll 2 evades. Having a mountain of tokens in one turn is sweet. What sucks is you'll roll blanks just as often and end up stressed with nothing to show for it.

Actually had pretty good luck with the following "poor man's 3PO" setup before I got my own Tantive:

If you Push the Limits to focus and and evade, you can use Jan's ability and end up with two evades...and a stress. That means you can mitigate as much as 3 damage a turn if you roll a natural evade and stick to green maneuvers. Obviously 3PO is strictly better because he leaves you with more options, but in a casual game this setup has been very strong for me. It has the benefit of being totally consistent but at the cost of limiting your actions and maneuvers.

Hope this helps!

While I can understand how useful 3PO can be, something about using him just doesn't do it for me. The Falcon can still be really competitive without him. I recently won a local tournament using:

Han Solo - MF title, EU, PtL, Nien Nunb, and Luke Skywalker crew

2x Tala Squadron Z-95s and 1 Bandit Squadron Z-95

Having Nien Nunb really helped to shed the stress from PtL as he makes all straight maneuvers green. The maneuverability and pretty substantial firepower from the Falcon, with Han's rerolls and then triggering Luke if that doesn't manage to land, turned out to be really effective.

there are so many crew cards you can combine with Chewy that it can take on many roles

This Han build proved unkillable when I went against it in a recent tournament:

Han Solo (46)
Push the Limit (3)
Kyle Katarn (3)
Jan Ors (2)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Millennium Falcon (1)
Total: 59
Turn 1 - Push the Limit to Focus and Evade.
Turn 2 onwards - Take a green maneuver to shed stress, gain a focus. Use Jan to turn this into an Evade. Focus, PtL, Evade.
So that's two evades and a focus every turn. It proved very challenging to get any damage to stick, and Han's pilot ability plus a focus resulted in a pretty solid damage output.

Ive used push the limit + Jan + Kyle + Millenium Falcon title +engine upgrade to great effect, giving me 2 evades per turn on average plus the option to do a boost or focus action. I its a bit more management but i think it allows for more flexibility in the long run

Chewie- predator/Jan ors/recon. 50 points match with dash or corran.
