IA Core set skirmish lists

By Vinush, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Hi guys,

So, I have the core set only and want to try out the skirmish rules.

Is it possible to make two forces including the command decks using the miniatures and cards in the core set only?

What are the best core set only lists for both sides?

TYIA

As far as Empire, this list is acceptable, especially if you're only competing with another list from the same box:

Darth Vader

Storm Troopers

Royal Guards

Imperial Officer

Imperial Officer

Probe Droid

39 points, Six activations

The Rebels are more difficult to get to 40 because in the core they don't have many cheap figures, but I'd bet its possible. Mercenaries (scum) simply cannot make a winning list from the core set, even if just against another list from the same box. Shame really, because Scum is my favorite faction in X-wing and IA but in this game they are quite lacking in options.

Don't forget about Temporary Alliance, which can be used to bring 2 Rebels into a Mercenary list. Bringing Luke and Gideon into a squad with IG-88 and an Elite Nexu or some Trandoshan Hunters is a decent option.

Oh I tried it... didn't work out. The Nexu are pretty awful in skirmish even the elites. Looking to test some more lists with Boba and maybe the droids, but in my experience the best use of your scum figures will be via Imperial Temporary alliance.

besides that, I'm curious too, what is a functional core set list for the rebels?

If you're testing it out, feel free to use the tokens and use Luke/Han/Chewie/Gideon. 3 really hard hitters, isn't too bad against what you're going up against with the imperials. Keep them together to bank off Defensive buffs. You can one shot many an enemy with a focused one of the big 3!

If you're just playing with friends, I'd say its perfectly acceptable to proxy in additional figures or deployment cards for casual play.

For example, the core set comes with 1 "Elite" deployment card for Stormtroopers, but in the rules it's legal to bring two groups of "Elite" Stormtroopers.

Although it wouldn't fly "officially", when playing among friends its perfectly acceptable to simply say "Hey, I'm counting this regular Stormtrooper deployment card as another Elite for this skirmish."

Makes for a much more enjoyable and diverse experience without having to spend hundreds for multiple core sets.

With the new skirmish rules coming out I think this single core list is good. Its like the Vader list above, but Elite Stormtroopers instead of regular.

Vader

Elite Stormtroopers

Officer

Officer

Royal Guards

Use the officers to move vader, and the extra focus when your elite Stormtroopers really helps...

I have been playing around with

Vader

Stormtroopers x 2

Officer

Royal Guards

However like the look of bassoon201's list. What command cards do you use bassoon201?

We had a list which came 1st out of 10 people with 4/4 victories:
Darth Vader

Elite Royal Guard

Royal Guard

Officer.

Only 4 activations but brutal, Vader just doesn't want to die and his guard buff him so much. A real pain to play against.
