Start now or hold off?

By Nez21, in X-Wing

From all the rumors, just hold out until September 4th, then you will know about compatibility.

Well we all know that a new core set thanks to all the leaks is out. It would be stupid for it not to be compatible. That being the case it might be a good idea to wait for September 4th and see when the new core set comes out.

After that if you want to get into X-wing now a classic core set might not be a bad thing and should still suit you. If you want to wait till the new core set in wave 9 or whenever that's just fine and you should be good doing that.

I don't understand where this fear of the the current stuff becoming obsolete is coming from. Why on Earth would FFG release a whole wave for the currently beginning Star Wars Rebels TV show. Only to kill the the line and make them useless. If this was the end, the Rebels ships would not have been announced.

Figure out what ships you want to fly. Build a simple squad. Buy it. Fly the hell out of it. Then, come Sept 4th, you'll know what the ships do and know where to go.

PGWS. Post Games Workshop Syndrome.,

Just hold off on buying Huge/Epic ships and perhaps the M3-A Interceptor Expansion.

I wish I waited to buy these, because I could have got another Decimator, HWK-290 and all of Wave 7. I'll be waiting for early 2016 before I'll have any extra money to score x-wing goodies... so Wave 8, Raider and Assault Carrier will be put off even further in my buying future.

I am pretty sure that the new set will be a must buy like Most Wanted is. Now if you do not care about the new film and ships, you can skip it kinda like the people who do not care for SCUM.

I think people who skip the new E7 set will be missing out, but they will be able to play the game and have fun with the current core game.

I am certain that all of the ship old and new will be compatible, so buy what you want, but maybe wait on a second core set if you want the new goodies to go with the old goodies...

:)

The most important thing is to have fun!

;)

Thanks for the replies guys. It's greatly appreciated.

I find it rather irritating that after deliberating over whether or not to get into the game for months, I end up jumping in just before something like this comes along!

Nonetheless, since I already own one core set, would it be sensible to buy an extra X-Wing, extra TIE Fighter, and a dice pack, so we can at least use the other pilots that aren't in the core set, and have enough dice to not faff around re-rolling and trying to remember dice rolls?

Then after that, just hold out until next month and pick up the new core set?

Makes perfect sense.

1x Original core set now

1x New core set in the future, on the hypothetical assumption that one is planned for release on September 4th

Then get expansions to taste. Just pick your favourite ships at first until you have some more experience of the game. I wouldn't worry about anything being made redundant, that's not FFG's way.

The dice pack would be a waste of money in my opinion. You'll end up with 6 of each eventually and you won't need more than this. If I were you, I'd just deal with having to re-roll dice for the next 2 weeks and after then you'll have enough from the core sets to set you up for the rest of your X-wing gaming life.

Thanks guys.

Ordered an X-Wing and a TIE fighter expansion which leaves me with all the current pilots etc for both ships. Will pick up a copy of the new starter upon release.

Thanks again for the replies!
