A Glutton for Punishment....Tie Punisher ideas

By JamieSpace, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Soooo

I have ordered a Tie Punisher and I'm really looking forward to using the roided out bomber for some weird reason!

Here is what I have been thinking of running it with!

"Deathrain" (26)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Extra Munitions (2)
Seismic Charges (2)
Cluster Mines (4)
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

Royal Guard Pilot (22)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Shield Upgrade (4)
Royal Guard TIE (0)

I love dual Royal Guard interceptors and they seem pretty hardy. Hopefully Deathrain or Redline can cause a bit of havoc on the big ships and take some heat while the royals run a riot!

Anybody have any joy with a similar setup?

What are peoples thoughts on the punisher who have had it in their hands?

Can't you Fit Conner Net in there? Seems like a great offensive weapon if used by Deathrain.

Been wanting to try this.

"Redline" (27)

FCS (2)

Extra Mun. (2)

Plasma Torps (3)

Cluster Missiles (4)

AT (2)

"Whisper" (32)

VI (1)

IA (1)

ACD (4)

FCS (2)

Backstabber (16)

Targeting Comp. (2)

Not sure if it will be competitive, but we will see. Focusing on any one target in this list means the other two are free to wreck face. Redline is vulnerable to swarms, but Whisper eats them for breakfast. Whisper vulnerable to fat turrets, but Redline will chew through fatties. Backstabber is just annoying.

Do you prefer Hull Upgrades to Stealth Devices on your Royal Guard pilots? I like Stealth Devices personally, Autothrusters and defensive tokens from Pushing the Limit help keep them active for an extended period of time.

I think once I get the K-wing I will change clusters for the net as I think it will be great to setup the interceptors to swoop in!

I have been having a bad run on stealth device so thought to go with the sure thing of hull but easy to swap around if I feel it's gonna help!

I like the phantom list, could be real fun to play her and redline together. Fragile but hard target priority

"Tie-Five" for the pun in the title! I think that running Deathrain with some interceptors will be the optimal strategy for the Punisher. Dropping a bomb on the spot to get the barrel roll will open up some interesting arc dodges.

I have been flying royal guards since Imperial Aces arrived. They are great for their points. RG w/ PtL + autos + hull = 30 and is surprisingly hard to kill as long as you don't get blocked ;)

My go to ace with the royals has been Vader, but I've flown them alongside deathrain twice now. I like it because your opponent goes for deathrain and lets the royals get in on the flank without too much difficulty. On the other hand, the punisher melts fast under focus fire, so its not necessarily ideal. 5 TIE fighters or perhaps a pair of cutlasses with FCS + EM and clusters might ultimately be the best support for a named Punisher.

I prefer Hull upgrade. Unlike Soontir, you rarely have a defensive token even with push the limit (I find I rarely have a turn where I haven't used BR and/or Boost with interceptors, so unless you plan on saving your focus always for defense, you got nothing left against any return shots). Hull stops a point of damage all the time. Stealth fails sometimes. Shield ultimately is the best choice, but that extra one point makes it surprisingly hard to squeeze into lists...YMMV of course, but I've had quite a number of games with both and am quite sold on hull at this point

I would definitely downgrade the shield on the RGP to a hull and give Deathrain Autothruster in the first list.

The conner Net only comes with a K-Wing so people who only have empire ships wont have a net yet

Still need to give it a game.

I agree that everyone is fully aware that Deathrain will ruin your day and is focused down quick! Maybe Autos might help to survive at least another round against those TLTs

I would prefer connor nets on him as I have been hit by two clusters and received one damage out of 4 dice (Why no crits??)

I think maybe Vade and another advance or even shuttle maybe better squad mates

I will have to try my Garven/Dutch/Esege list against this mate when I actually manage to get to the club!
