All your crops are belong to us!

Played the quest "A fat goblin" yesterday again. This time, the goblins stolen just one bundle. I think that heroes must use fatigue to move on the first round, to be able to perform two attacks and clear the way easily. Otherwise they will be stuck fighting the open group (barghests, this time) while the devilish goblins will escape with no problem.

Two questions about the adventure:

1) We had Avric as disciple. His ability says that all the heroes gain hearts on a surge, but we didn't understand how it works properly. If he or a hero rolls a surge he can CHOOSE to gain health instead of spending this surge on more damage, more range, conditions, etc, or they have the health and can spend the surges according to their abilities, weapons?

2) And the main problem. We could not agree about the end of the second encounter. Splig had only 1 heart left, and was close the the exit. The overlord had two dash cards in his hand. Could he use the two at the same time? My opinion was: NO. If he uses, he can escape, if not, some hero could bring him down on the next turn. Wht do you say?

1) Treat Avric's ability like this: if he is within 3 spaces, your weapon now has an additional skill: "surge: recover 1 heart"

2) OL can't use two cards with the same name on the same target and the same trigger. That way, you can't use two Dash on the same monster on the same activation, and you can't use two Critical Blow on the same monster on the same attack. So Splig probably would be the dead now.

Thanks, dude. So the ability is a plus, we don't have to SPEND the surge for this effect. I was in doubt. About the second at least I was right. Go to hell, Splig! :)

With Avrics ability, you MUST spend the surge in order to gain the Heart. You do not gain a heart just for rolling a surge.

Now I'm confused. The ability says something like all heroes within 3 spaces gain heal 1 HP by surge.

My question is, let's say hero "A" rolls 1 surge while attacking with a throwing dagger. He have to CHOOSE if he will spend in +1 range OR gain +1 HP? Or both things can happen?

One of those 2 can be chosen, not both (in case of 1 surge)

What Andrew meant is that you have an additional ability to spend a surge on.

I see, thanks a lot, all of you, for the replies. :)

I usually average 50/50 on crops stolen/saved. One wrong move though and all crops are stolen.

As overlord I have had a lot of success on that quest

That's the problem. The goblins are too fast. If don't spend fatigue, it's almost certain the heroes will lose.

I once had a goblin die at the exit. and drop a crop. The heroes were all like "We're gonna save one!" Then it was like:

Goblin spawns in beginning. Move-snag crop- Move off board with remaining MPs. The heroes just looked at me.

whats important here though, is that this is simply one encounter of the quest, while this has been suggested its more overlord favor, in my experience its actually the second act that is more in the heroes favor, (depending on OL strategy or cards ofc) even with the additional 8hp from all crops Splig if i remember correctly its not a issue if under focus fire from heroes

my 2 cents :D

For each crop, Splig gets 1 HP per hero. So thats:

*= number of crops stolen.

2 player game:

*X2

3 player:

*X3

4 Player:

*X4

I just beat it with him having 16 additional health ( that's a total of 29 Life). So yeah it is possible. That being said, I never triggered and Dash cards either, so that was a factor. I usually use Shadow Dragons as the open group. The heroes have a hard time getting rid of them. Important thing is to keep Splig from getting past them, but that's hard to do.

A big problem is how long Splig takes to find Federick. In this last session, was the first token, very bad luck for the heroes. The overlord started to move Splig surrounded by the goblin archers, for protection. Wer had luck to bring down easily the cave spiders and the Ettins (open group). The longer Splig takes to find Federick, the better for the heroes.

He also found Frederick on his first attribute roll. Still won.

If you have any Immobilize effects, use them if you can. It will help slow him down. Of course in my case I never drew any Dash cards, so that did hurt.
