Weird character concept for awayputurwpn's PbP Campaign

By Jereru, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Alright, so I had a dream... I mean an idea, and thought about presenting it to you and see what you think. I'm not sure I'll play this, so if any of you like it and want to play it, there you are.

These are only basic guidelines on how to build the idea, not exact XP expenditure walk-throughs. Also, we'll have to reinterpret some of the spec trees. I've chose them based on the abilities they give you, not (necessarily) on their background.

The Heirs to the Legacy Campaign

This is a Play By Post campaign which will be run by awayputurwpn. It takes place centuries after the Battle of Yavin. The Empire has been ruling all this time with iron hand, but there are some heroes gathering to try to change things for good.

Our hero will be a member of a non-Jedi Force Tradition. Choose a fancy name for it, all very oriental style. It will be a tradition with a lot of Shao Lin monastery things. This tradition is, of course, a quite secret gathering of people who train to be ready when the time arrives and oust the Empire (now called The Order) of the galaxy to restore balance to the Force. Our "monk" will start with some mundane training, both in combat and in certain disciplines, and when he's ready he'll learn the ways of the Force. Here's the break up:

Species: Any. I chose human, but any which doesn't have a 3 in a Characteristic you want at 2 is fine.

Characteristics: Brawn 4, one other 3, rest 2. Of course, you can always start with several 3's instead, but this is a Brawn-intensive build.

Starting Career: Either Hired Gun (Marauder) or Colonist (Doctor) . Marauder, then Doctor. We'll need to reinterpret those careers; the PC is not really a hired gun or a colonist. These specs are only a way to represent the training they recieve in medicine and anathomy (Doctor) and in martial arts (Marauder).

The aim here is to start with one of them and then pick the other, you choose the order Marauder because Brawl is a Career skill, not a Spec skill.

Doctor, of course, is there because it has the Talent that gives life to this build: Pressure Point. This Talent lets you punch people for damage = Brawn+Medicine, ignoring Soak (ignoring Soak!). It inflicts Strain, and doesn't allow weapons, but I think it's really solid. Remember Unarmed Combat has the Knockdown and Disorient qualities. With Brawn 5 and Medicine 4, you'll be doing 9 base damage plus talents plus successes, no soak allowed. Close to a lightsaber! :P

Marauder is here to have access to Brawl, and because of Frenzied Attack, Feral Strength and Enduring. High Brawn plus Enduring plus armour will give you a superb Soak value.

Developing: Once you have Pressure Point and some nice Marauder Talents, you can go Force Sensitive. Pick one of the two, the one you like most. Then pick some Powers. Of course, the aim here is to use Enhance to add your Force dice to Brawl, but Comitting to increase Brawn or Agility is also nice. Other Powers that fit the martial monk theme are Sense, Foresee, maybe Misdirection and Heal, etc.

If the campaign keeps running for long, you might consider another spec. Healer is quite good, since it gives you Calming Aura and its Improved version. Nice to remove a pip from that nasty Inquisitor. The power is probably going to be successful anyway, but you're either forcing him to spend Destiny, or preventing him from using too many upgrades. Either way, it's cool.

Gear: The finishing touch for this build is an item calld Talisman of Iron Fists. Since the campaign starts at Knight Level, you can afford to pay the 8000 creds needed to purchase it (if the GM allows, of course). This Talisman gives you (and thus your armour and weapons) the Cortosis quality, which means your Brawl weapons (if you use them) will be immune to Sunder and your soak will be immune to Breach and Pierce. This, combined with a high Brawn and potentially two instances of Enduring, means that you could end up having a Soak of about 8 which a lighsaber wouldn't be able to dig through. That's not bad at all, uh? Oh, and on top of that, you get some Pierce!

You could, of course, use some weapons. Either melee weapons (your pick) or the nice paired Vamblades are a nice choice to use while you still don't have Pressure Points, or if you really want to do some damage instead of strain.

So, that's mostly it. As for the rest of the sheet, put a 3 in a Characteristic that helps improve team work and pick some nice Skills according to whatever's needed. Of course, a full Ataru Striker will be better, and let's not talk about a HBR monkey, but I thought it would be nice to try something different.

I'll be playing this if the rest of the players and the GM think it's cool and useful, unless someone wants to try himself.

Edit: Typos, typos everywhere...
