Newb questions: Lieutenant Packs & Heroes & Monsters (Quests)

By TrentL, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

So I see each Lieutenant pack comes with a plot deck... that you can use with the game using threat that you generate from various means looks cool, but doyou have to pick a Lt. Pack of people in your campaign? Could you use say Gargan Mirklace in the base game? Or do you have to stick with the BBEG that come in the game?

And Heroes & Monsters ... they come with quests ... can you put those quests in campaigns? Or are they just one off adventures that will never fit into campaigns at all?

I guess that also goes for the small boxes like Lair of the Wyrm ... more monsters etc .. but what about those quests.... do they fit into campaigns etc...

Do most people play this game 1 quest in an evening no campaign ... or do they always play campaigns .. (Honestly Campaign play is much more appealing over all to me)

The quest that come in the heros&monsters packs are there to be played at any time realy there set up as rumers and the players and you can choose to follow them. but i think you need at lest 3 to make it work right. thats what i get from it. and as for the Lt. Packs you can use what ever you like but there are some that say you cant use during this box set game other then that have fun.

Okay I see I went through and read: http://descent2e.wikia.com/wiki/Rumor , so that's how the rumor cards are added into the adventure and I assume I can just shuffle in the hero&monster rumor cards into the rumor deck of either TrollFens / Lair of the Wyrm. Then play accordingly as they come up I see what you mean by needing at least 3 since each act you only get 3 cards.

So looking at the campaign Set up

Intro:

Act 1 Quest

Act 1 Quest

Act 1 Quest

Interluide

Act II Quest

Act II Quest

Act II Quest

Finale

So these rumor quests should the heroes take them replaces one of the Act 1 of the act one quests. Sorry for all the newb questions lots to learn ... so much to learn.

So far the family decided to do the Masquerade's ball ... which apprently is pretty heavy towards the Overlord :P Pretty fun game overlal.

Basically, you when starting a campaign, you draw 3 rumor cards from all the ones you have. Some of these feature quests (h&m packs have only rumor quests, mini expansions have rumor quests for each quest ofthat campaign, while also having a few special 'events'). You, as OL, can play these at certain points during act 1 and they are in addition to the 3 act 1 quests you play. It does however not award you any xp when played. When you finish the rumor quests, it will instruct you to put an advanced quest in play, which is an additional act 2 quests, which is a follow-up of the act 1 quest.

Interesting so they provide more gold for the heroes and some possible rewards for the OL.

Thanks a bunch! So much to wrap my head around :)

Yeah, basically it works like this:

At the Beginning of the campaign, the Overlord Shuffles the Rumor Card Deck and Draws three Rumor cards. The Deck consists off all the Rumor cards you own ( or just want to possibly use in the campaign.) The three Rumor cards he draws is the ones he can use in the Campaign.

Every Rumor card tells you when you can play it. You can only play One during each Campaign Phase. When you Play a Rumor Card that has a Quest on it, that Quest becomes available for the heroes to choose in addition to base ACT quests. When you play a Rumor card that features a Quest, If you are playing a Lieutenant Plot Deck, you also obtain a Threat Token.

If the quest is chosen, you go perform all Campaign Phase steps as per normal. For the Travel Phase, the travel Icons are listed at the top of the Rumor Quest card.

At the end of the Quest, The Rumor Card is discarded and You put the corresponding " Advanced Quest Card" out on the board. This card is a reminder that this is an available quest that can be played in addition to your base ACTII campaign quests. You can only choose this quest during ACTII.

Lieutenant Packs-

Every Plot Deck in a Lieutenant Pack has a corresponding Agent Card. The Agent is a special figure that you can use to Summon into any quest at any time, as long as you can spend enough threat tokens to do it. So to answer your question, yes you can Summon the Gargan Mirklace Agent into any Core Game Quest, with the exception of the Interlude and the Finale. You cannot Summon an Agent into a quest if the Lieutenant is already required to be on the map. Example: You are using Splig's Plot Deck and playing encounter 2 of A Fat Goblin. The Splig Lieutenant is used on the map, thus you cannot summon the Splig Agent.

I'm not 100% sure (and I'm to lazy to check atm) but some Agents are blocked from the whole campaign they appear in. I'm believe the 'Summon Ariad' card (for example) says at the bottom that you can't use it in the Labyrinth of Ruin campaign at all.

So its even better if you use a Plot Deck from a different campaign (like using Gargan Mirklace's in the base campaign) :)

Right, there are special rules for campaigns that tell you which Plot Decks you can use. Labrynth of Ruin for instance uses Serena and Raythen as Allies to the heroes, so they are barred from being Agents and Heroes in that campaign. Another good example is Heirs of Blood and not being able to use Eliza Farrow's Plot Deck.

Yes. MOST agents are only prohibited from specific quests. Very specific agents are barred from entire campaigns- for example, you cannot summon zachareth into the shadow rune. Note:

When an agent is barred from a quest, be is barred from the whole quest, not just the encounter. You cannot summon the splig agent into encounter 1 or 2 of Fat Goblin.

Also, blocking an agent does not block their plot deck. You can use the Mirklace deck during the Shadow of Nerekhall, but the "summon mirklace" and mirklace agent cards are useless.

Thanks everyone I'm sure I'll have lots of questions as time moves on we did the first part of the Masquerade's ball ... which the Hero's absolutely destroyed me by blocking the door (I choose a Golem ... bad choice I should have chose Goblins Archers who could have ran right pas the hero's ... of course there was no room to open the door so that sorta sucked next time I'll make sure that I get those doors open faster.

Only good thing is I've been really able to hold back how many search tokens they have gotten by blocking off the search tokens so they have only got 125GP so far ... course still need to do the 2nd part of the Masquerade's ball ... and since I didn't win the first its up to the dice YIKES.

So as it stands I have 200$ on my shopping cart in Lt Packs, Monster Packs, The campaign book that gives a separate campaign for the base box, as well as the Trollfens small box.

But there will be no plot this time around as I'm just figuring it out ... next time there will be however :) So far I've bought 1 webtrap that seems pretty awesome spell.... they are saving up for larger upgrades... which they will have after this ... so that should be interesting.

I'm slowly collecting everything. The important thing for me is not to go overboard. You should try a Co+Op.

I own everything since it's avalaible (I wish before, but never archeived to), and even if i'm not using it all at once, I feel good to have it all just in case, to replace thoses horribles lieutenants tokens, or trying some combo with plot decks, monster, heroes, classes, and cards

I have just started as well we are playing through the base game campaign right now. The more I learn about this game the more I like it
