Sad this is the current state of affairs..

Another QFT.

Squadrons are amazing when used properly but they take a LOT of work to get right.

I won a game at my FLGS yesterday using a squadron heavy build against a no squadron build. It was close 173 to 107, but I still won.

In yesterday's tournament (read about it here) I really wish that I had brought my bomber build, rather than the 3 Glads/no Squadrons build that I brought. Out of all participants (regrettably just 4), there were only two squadrons - the two A-Wings that Lyraeus brought.

I think we need more people to bring more bomber builds so that people perceive a greater need to bring more squadrons to counter them. That way the meta can self-correct a bit.

Those 2 A-Wings pumped about about 8 damage or so in 3 games. Not bad since I am highly inexperienced with them.

The game is teetering, except for being one of the best selling miniature games out there!

Armada is FINE. It's in good hands, it's pretty darn balanced, it's mega fun, and it's easy for people to get into it. Chiiiiilllllll.

Well, they were an insurance policy against people bringing bombers.

I brought a bomber build to the previous tournament we did, and was a bit surprised that people (ie. Chris) didn't bring squadrons to protect himself from the way my Rhymer Ball chewed up his Gladiators that previous time.

Did not need any squadrons at the last tourney, and I fought two very heavy squadron lists. Just blew by, took a couple of shots, and blasted the carriers.

Wave two needs to get here fast.

Just sounds like inexperienced players..

Not that i'm claiming to be any better, but we all know where the gladiators are going (the clue is black range!) so why weren't they all there waiting to smack you with many dice?..

That is what I keep telling him. He says he has good players in the area but if that was the case he would not be winning tournaments with 3 10-0 victories.

What kind of squadrons were they heavy on, and how were they flown? Why were they not protecting the carriers?

Are you collecting any data on your tournaments?

Just because his supposition is wrong, doesn't mean that his argumentative form is lacking.

I'd say that it is in this case. Not just because he's wrong but rather because his post is great example of how to use logical fallacies.

Hm, all I see are exaggerations and anecdotal evidence, which are obviously skewed, but that's hardly noteworthy on a forum of this kind. Can you point out the logical fallacies?

Bwings and Xwings. And they tried to protect the carriers, but fighters can't keep a capital ship from going were it wants to go, as long as you're willing to take a few hits on the way.

As for inexperienced players, the last one came in second at the last tourney and this one, and plays the game constantly. Reminds me of Lyraeus, matter of fact he's so obsessed with it ( not that this is a bad thing....)

The other two players flew skillfully enough, but I don't think anyone was prepared at all to face three Glads backed by two VSD, specially flown as aggressively as I play them.

I had no problem catching even corvettes going speed four simply by bracketing them with two Glads. The tables only so big. And I don't care what you have on that guppy, two GSD broadsides is going to wreck your world.

My Guppies survive 2 broadside's from GSD's. Did that several times yesterday in daft.

An average GSD broadside of 4 dice is about 4 hits. Of course then there's critical effects, but two broadsides alone should not kill an AFII.

Even allowing for both arcs in simultaneously (front, side) on two GSD's via the same target arc that's ~16 hits.

If it all comes through the same shield, the AF can take a 2 hit reduction with brace, twice. 4 hits on the front and 2 on the aft with redirect.

Plus the 3 side shields is 13, leaving 3 hits, a damaged AF.

You'd have to roll a fair bit above average or get some lucky crits to one-shot an AF

I have to say though, the OP MAY have a point...

Guys, we have to be honest here, okay?

Armada IS teetering...

It's teetering on the brink of replacing X-Wing entirely for many of us who play both. ;)

Yes, all of this is true.

The Rebellion's demise is almost at hand, and by giving into this despair you are, quite rightly, hastening on the inevitable.

In fact, why persist in this pathetic insurrection at all? Surrender now, and you can get into the better spice mines on Kessel, while there is still room.

Goooood! I can feel your anger. Now let the hate flow through you. Let it consume you, and then your journey to the dark side will be complete.

:D Can't help but agree.

No, Armada isn't teetering, it's X-Wing that is teetering. If only I didn't have so much fun with X-Wing initially, I'd have sold all of my stuff. Maybe if I've only started with X-Wing, 2 or 3 months in, I'd gladly trade it all in for Armada. I just came in 2nd place in my local X-Wing casual tournament and one of my prizes was a small ship of my choosing. I asked the shop owner to instead credit my account so I can use the money towards Wave 2 when it comes out.

I've never played Rebels in X-Wing but the AF, the X-Wings, and the B-Wings in this game makes me want to try playing the good guys

Now if only I can get more games.....

On the other hand, Armada does seem to have a problem gaining traction. A £60-70 Armada starter set is much harder to impulse-buy compared to a £20-30 X-Wing starter set.

I played X-Wing for the first time in a long time (well before Armada came out) about a week ago. I forgot how fun it was, and it was SUPER REFRESHING to play something that felt fast paced and agile. It seems the feel of X-Wing got even better now that I have Armada to compare it to.

I, too, had my first X-Wing game in a while after playing almost exclusively Armada for a few months.

It was with the person who first learned X-Wing with me, we'd played a lot, and he usually won.

About halfway through the game he told me that he thought my Armada playing must have had a major impact on how I was playing X-Wing, and I realized he was absolutely right as my three pronged attack closed in on and utterly annihilated his entire squad. Armada has me thinking at least three to four turns ahead in both games.

Aha! You're a scum player, and you want to switch to the Empire, because the AF, the X-wings and the B-wings seem so awful!

Had me puzzled there for a moment.

100% Imperials in X-Wing. My forum name kinda gives you a clue :D

I got at least one of each except the Tantive and the new Raider, but never touched the Rebels or the Scum.

Also, "good" is a relative term. Please don't Force choke me!

Lets see. Single post. No avatar. Doom and Gloom negativity.

Using my algebra......I get: Troll

No I will not show my work.

I popped popcorn for nothing! I was hoping for some good fireworks and all I get is a rehashing of Darth Lupine's no-squad thrashing? You guys have to working your geek rage.

Well, look on the bright side.. now you have popcorn. *steals some in a quick hit-and-fade raid* mmmm, popcorn.

If Armada is teetering, it has more to do with the delays and lack of online content, not with game balance.
